They left out keytar players for the same reason they left out accordianists and triangle players.

The big oversight was Cowbell players.

The mere mention of Ben Folds makes me want to do that ....Ugh

Came for Page. Leaving satisfied

/was RAGING on the Fishman corner of the soundboard that night.
//cannot imagine a more perfect evening than that night.

Knew Page would rock that list.

His keytar was once a beloved instrument of the God Father of Soul.

The funk trickels down...

FunkOut: At least they got Edgar Winter.

Edgar Winter played the keytar before such a thing even existed. I'm glad he was on the list but he should be at the top of it.

Not rock, but since George Duke and Herbie Hancock are in there, so should Chick Corea:

My thoughts exactly. And if you say Devo's not "rock" you obviously haven't seen them live.

fusillade762: My thoughts exactly. And if you say Devo's not "rock" you obviously haven't seen them live.

Furthermore, they put Phish and Herbie Hancock on the list. If Devo's not on the list because they're not "rock", then those guys have no business there either.

Let's also not forget Bela Fleck's awesome drummer, Futureman and his Drumitar

All these arguments are invalid. Here is a photo of a keytarist (aka Stomach Steinway) on an inflatable turtle in a lake.

They forgot the guy from mutemath. He almost makes the keytar cool, sometimes by smashing one:

What? No John Tesh (new window)?

2011-11-25 10:06:49 PM
I've had few beers, but that John Tesh performance was awesome. If I run into some money I need to get myself a keytar.

What, no Stevie Spice (new window)? FARK YOU ANDREW DANSBY.

I saw Steely Dan live a few years ago and have to go with Donald Fagen. I love me some Steely Dan! Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car. I think the people down the hall know who you are.

You can't really appreciate Jean Michel Jarre unless half your city has been turned into a stage. And #1 is really good!

List fails because Uncle Ghastly is missing.

Also, it completely reminded me of SilverHawks.

I was going to laugh at this list on general principle, but then they had to go include Herbie Hancock, and I had to stop and nod in respect.

The "keytar" is a specific, lightweight instrument. A decade before it appeared, Edgar Winter added a strap to a Univox electronic piano and pretty much invented the wearable keyboard.

Seriously thought you wrote 'keytardists'...

Oh, you meant wearable AND bearable? Carry on then...

No picture evidence for Edgar Winter? I saw him on a DVD box set of clips from "The Midnight Special" a couple years back. This guy did no research and the article is invalid.

What E.W. plays is not a keytar. It looks more like a full fledged keyboard straped around his neck!

List fails for no Thomas Dolby! C'mon!

Also. I now own Thomas's Keytar.

Rolling Stone did a thing about the '80s recently. They proved they really should've had someone old enough to have lived through 'em actually write the piece. They were WAAY off.

...so if Rolling Stone farked up again, take it with a grain of salt. They're kinda irrelevant anymore.
