He's gonna hang out with Gaddafi?

2011-11-25 01:55:51 PM
That was tremendous story, and his life encapsulates the best about America. They don't make 'em like that any more.

RIP, crazy junk food guy.
/Thanks for you pizza rolls, the "munchie-killers" of many of my 70's cravings.

2011-11-25 01:57:29 PM
Was the cause of death chronic burnt roof of mouth syndrome? I loves me some pizza rolls, but I could do without the scorched mouth.

I'm feeling ambivalent about this, trying to balance the travesty of Chun King chop suey I was subjected to as a kid with the awesomeness of Michelina's stroganoff.

Will the outside of his casket be crispy?

I like pizza rolls dammit. I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THIS!

The Jeno's pizza founder gets a tombstone

2011-11-25 02:20:34 PM
Per his instructions, he'll be cremated at 425° for about 9 minutes.

Great story, I had never heard of him before but he sounds like he was a great person.

I saw a documentary on frozen fast foods, a food historian said pizza rolls will probably be made as long as civilization exists.

That's sad that he passed away right after his long time wife did. Wonder if his heart just couldn't take it anymore and gave out.

As said before this guy sounds like a solid person and he gave a lot back which you don't see in many higher ups these days. Hope he and his family find some peace in his passing.

This man got me through many a day in my college years.

RIP, yummy food man.

My dad sold starch to Jeno Paulucci back in the day.

2011-11-25 02:50:38 PM
Mr. Potatoass
Per his instructions, he'll be cremated at 425° for about 9 minutes.

Uhhh, does that come with or without achovies?

Jeno was a friend and a sponsor of Stan Freberg, who made him one the funniest commercials ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQcWbmiXuDc (new window)

(At the time, Lark cigarettes had the "Show us your pack" ads with the same music.)

TheGhostofFarkPast: That's sad that he passed away right after his long time wife did.

I dunno...it's not a bad way to go. 93 years old, 4 days after your wife of 64 years passes on? There aren't any good ways to go, but there are many worse than that. RIP Mr. Paulucci, and congratulations on a life well-lived.

Nothing is certain but death, taxes... and pizza rolls?

That was pretty damn funny.

Gonna go get me some Jeno's now, to honor a fine gent.

Mmmm...pizza rolls. Those little eggroll things weren't bad, either. So long, old munchie-killing guy!

....and when I die
I'm going to the big freezer in the sky....

I loved those Chun King egg rolls, which were basically pizza rolls with MSG, cabbage and some pork byproduct.

I also now cannot believe that I ate that shiat

Let's see, after innards and entrails have been pulverized into an homogeneous crap that is indistiguishable from one ethnic cuisine to another, then fried up in a wonton?

Mmmmm... When I was a kid, I loved that Chun King chow mein slop that came in the two separate cans poured out over those crunchy fried noodles.

RIP junk food guy.

I hope they remember to turn him over, halfway thru the funeral.

"When an ammonia spill in a cooler stained the skins on 18 cases of bananas without damaging the fruit, Paulucci labeled them "exotic Argentine imports" -- and sold them at a premium of 4 cents a pound."

So the lying douche got his start by selling contaminated crap to people and calling it "gourmet"? True American!

It doesn't matter. All his goo is going to spill out anyway.

CSB: The entire time I grew up (until I was out of high school), Chun King was the only thing I knew about "Chinese" food. Then in college I went to a Chinese restaurant, and I've been working to make up for lost time ever since. Chun King wasn't all, totally, horribly bad, but it always had these weird flavors that simply are not related to Chinese food.

One of my favorite weekends-with-dad traditions was the seemingly endless supply of Jeno's Pizza Rolls. Then he died at age 53. Coincidence?

I've noticed an odd trend, I think.

If you eat junk food you'll die before 60.
If you invent junk food you'll make it to 90.

We always had pizza rolls on new years eve for some reason. I looked forward to them as a kid. It would not have been NYE without them.
