I love the comments: "Better put on your big girl pants. Part of having freedom of speech, is accepting any consequences that come of saying what you want."

Which means, of course, that the governor can bully a HS kid. Stay classy, Republicans!

the reason not to want kids involved in gov't

I don't know how many times I've posted this, but:

YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED.

Letter of apology.

Dear Gov:

I apologize for you sucking.

As Always,
Liz

I don't think she was joking. I think that was one of the most lucid and succinct uses of Twitter, ever. They DO suck. F*cking democracy, how does it work.

2011-11-25 10:13:09 AM
I think every grown-ass person in the state should tweet him that. Hell, I'm thinking about getting a Twitter account just to do it.

2011-11-25 10:23:52 AM
Dear Governor Brownback,
Better put on your big boy panties. Part of having freedom of speech is having to hear stuff you don't like.

Suck it truly,
Students.

PS- The democrats thank you for being an authoritarian asshat to these kids right when they're at the stage where they'll be choosing their political party.

2011-11-25 10:47:11 AM
"It was important for the organization to be aware of the comments their students were making." Jones-Sontag says. "It's also important for students to recognize the power of social media, how lasting it is. It is on the Internet."

Yeah. I think the honorable guv is going to find out that picking on an 18 YO student isn't going to curry favor with the young voters.

Based on this photo, the fact that he is a Republican with an evangelical background, I'm think say that "he sucked" was probably just a lucky guess.

SilentStrider: PS- The democrats thank you for being an authoritarian asshat to these kids right when they're at the stage where they'll be choosing their political party.

Yeah, problem is, most of the young Democrats leave, because it's still Kansas.

Good for the party, bad for the state, I guess.

Let me get this "straight", it ok for Sam Brownback and his Fellowship buddies and "roommate" Lou Engle to condone the arrest of and execution of homosexuals for being homosexuals but it is inappropriate for a student to say that "he sucks".

Really?

2011-11-25 11:23:53 AM
FTFA: "That wasn't respectful," responded Sherriene Jones-Sontag. "In order to really have a constructive dialogue, there has to be mutual respect."

Respect has to be EARNED, not just handed out like parade candy. A bigoted, hateful, fundamentalist who would like to shred the ideals of the United States to turn it into a backward theocracy does not earn my respect. So, Brownback, no, you don't get my respect.

2011-11-25 11:37:45 AM
not that I would, in any way, condone their actions, but I wonder how Anonymous would handle him...

2011-11-25 11:43:20 AM
Well.
Does he?

2011-11-25 11:53:12 AM
vudukungfu: Well.

He's a highly evangelical "family values" republican, what do you think?

Yeah, but did she work in an A1 Sporting Good's plug into her tweet?

He's a Republican. Nothing he does is wrong. The girl is a presumed Democrat, so no matter what she's wrong. Also she's a girl, so Republicans want to oppress her anyway.

looks like everyone now has to tweet 'Gov Brownback sucks' as often as possible today.

In the GOP worldview, you aren't supposed to use your freedom of speech to say things the Republicans don't want to hear.

given how similar this guy is politically to Santorum, I wonder if Dan Savage would want to get in on this.

it does seem to be something of a defining characteristic of the GOP these days. they can't handle the comments from one powerless HS school student without completely losing their shiat in public.

and the absolutely hilarious part is....

by responding the way they did. They GAVE her power. They gave her an audience and gave her a far far far louder voice than she could have ever wanted.

I don't get it. I really don't. the GOP seems really really jumpy these days. they're chasing their own shadows now.

Their narrative is at risk. If Obama wins and the democrats have electoral victory in 2012, they can't blame it on Bush. Theycan't blame it on Acorn. They can't blame it on Soros. They have all the advantages. They control the House. They've controlled the political narrative. The sucky economy works in their favor. If they lose, it's only because the majority of American voters reject them and their policies. That's terrifying for them.

Yeah, but another Republican got to play the victim, which I'm guessing was the whole point.

yeah, but losing your shiat over ONE high school students comment on twitter? this kid is zero threat to the governor. So why go after her or her school? that's paranoia of almost cartoonish levels of insanity.

If only the governor had shown some respect, then he might have gotten some in return. At least, according to the twitter-surfing assistant with no funny bone.

I absolutely understand why politicians would have staffers combing the internets for stories about them. With the speed at which rumors explode into scandal, you can't afford to wait even a single day if you want to get ahead of a story. But for staffers to use that privilege to ferret out and intimidate any citizen who dares speak out in any way shape or form? Well, that's just your modern GOP.

2011-11-25 01:00:36 PM
So apparently he sucks. But does he swallow?

This guy's staff is paranoid to extreme levels. c'mon...high school student twitter comments? that's zero threat. this takes the 'over zealous staffer' bit to new levels of stupidity.

You'll never see the Lame stream MSM liberal media ask that question.
