Jesus. If you're going to link to a UK site covering a story that relates to an Australian airline and their staff, you can at least use UK english. It's labour, subby.

Really? Even in newsFARK stories now?

Qantas Luxury: for the first time, Qantas passangers can now enjoy the oppulent extravagance of the letter "u". (*Vowel surcharges may apply.)

Unless you're referring to the Australian political party, for some reason left in the mists of time they use the American spelling.

Why would you put a u in labor when you don't bother with one in Qantas?

As someone who's currently going through union negotiations, I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

I have the perfect slogan for them:

'Quantas: now with 99% less dead weight'

FTFY:

Quantas: 99% lighter.

They got rid of middle, and most of higher, management?

TFA links to the tweets, and one of the tweetpods wrote a goodbye letter to Quantas here^ that is epic.

Confirms my opinion that qantas management is determined to turn the airline into a very local carrier.

It's a simple question.

i39.tinypic.com

QANTAS wants to move some maintenance operations off-shore to save $$$.
Peeps are worried that this will cause safety issues because Oz ground engineers are very good at their jobs [so we are told - the record speaks for itself, I suppose].
The boss of QANTAS says they can't compete otherwise.

Not sure what the answer is.

Throw in a heap of militant union action and F.U.D on both sides and we get the current mess.

Fark knows why baggage handlers think they're worth so much bloody dough. They seem to be striking a lot, too.

One of those situations where it has been going on for so long (has it ever stopped?) when you can't figure out who is really right or wrong as you long forgotten who started it in the first place.

I am on the side of Qantas but at the same time both parties could grow up a bit (a lot?), I think the unions might put themselves in a better position if they didn't spend so much time using the media to publicise supposed bad events caused by overseas maintenance, seems to be an on going theme of the unions saying nothing for months and then conveniently finding lots issues at just the right time. The Australian media loves to screw Qantas at any opportunity, a plane has an engine issue and it is reported like it was the end of the world, yet if you read the AvHerald website the issue is so normal it is boring. I wont say Qantas is perfect but no wonder it is viewed poorly in Australia when the media is finding anyway it can to criticise the airline yet airlines like Singapore & Emriates get endless free passes for the same issues.

I would prefer to see all of the maintenance done in Australia but know full well that is impossible, especially given the little time on the ground in Australia for the B747/A380 flights to the USA as they are on the ground for most of the day in Los Angeles and about 4 or 5 hours in Australia. Another issue is that with so few A380s it is prudent to combine maintenance work with Singapore Airlines to reduce the cost of parts you need to keep handy.

THIS^^

What's up with that? Er, I mean, what's up with THIS.

And what's the big deal about being PROUD of your NATIONAL airline anyway? We're getting fed spoonfuls of that shiate on a regular basis. It used to be like that with drinking your local beer, no matter how bad the slop tasted.

But then we all grew up.

Yes, but in Australia we can still remember when neither the beer nor the airline sucked.
