Love it, and not just because it was a GOP douche.

Any douche in a position of power who is, essentially, sticking fingers in ears and going "LA LA LA LA.....LA LA LA LA...LA LA LA LA" to an expert in their field deserves it. Also, the "SHUT UP!" was just uncalled for.

That photo is going to become a meme.

"Experts"? Who needs experts? When you KNOW, you don't need no fancy experts or "knowledge" that just gets in the way...

Sadly, there are parrots who will come into this thread who will say pretty much exactly that, albeit with slightly different wording. And they won't be medicated or put somewhere nice and safe, which is the real pity...

Later in hearing, Young took the opportunity to zing back at Brinkley, saying, "We've heard from environmentalists, and I understand their beliefs, but they don't know what they're talking about."

Say what? That's not a zing.

2011-11-25 08:01:02 AM
We need a lot more citizens to be self important douchebags like Brinkley. Congress are our subordinants. They need to be reminded of that.

Oh I sooo hope that this sets a precedent for citzens to really put congress in there place.

Young is one of the biggest douchebags in Congress.

2011-11-25 08:13:35 AM
I sense the writer didn't want to be painted as biased(it would be ludicrous to do so but its a ludicrous world) so they probably claimed Young issued a zinger when clearly she didn't.

Republican congressmen oil industry shills can't get it through their heads that congressional hearings are not their private domains to call in political enemies and force them to participate tamely in their "drill baby drill" Kabuki theater.

Maybe if they start pepper-spraying witnesses. "We will now break for lunch, essentially."

2011-11-25 08:16:32 AM
Reminds me of the attempt by congress to browbeat the British member of Parliament Galloway. Good for the historian.

2011-11-25 08:17:12 AM
Heh, in the video you can see the aides face go from "jeez, four more hours of dull testimony, I'll day dream for a while longer" to "WTF did he say?!" to "Oh shiat, this is going to end up on the news, better look composed and as though I'm paying attention".

2011-11-25 08:20:34 AM
Congress is a collection of some of the very worst kinds of people our society produces. They are scum and they are, indeed, subordinate to the citizenry in every way including moral standing. We KNOW they are crooks. We would be fools to pretend otherwise.
They long ago surrendered their moral authority. They deserve institutional respect only to the degree that it is necessary for a civil society to operate. However, this effort to establish and maintain a quasi-royal standing should have been confronted two generations ago.

Don Young is a thieving corrupt POS of long standing.

He couldn't even retort against a simple claim, essentially "I am a taxpayer and you're bound by your oath to listen to me and represent me." And yet the farkheads in his district allow him to be elected and reelected time after time. Think about that.

Well, Alaskans love their pork and he brings it home like few other Congresscritters can. Since they lost Ted Stevens he's their biggest advocate for pork. And he's a congressman-at-large - the whole state is his district.

This is from an investigative article concerning abuses of power in the "frozen banana republic" of Alaska:

"Young's suite in the Rayburn House building would not be easily confused with, say, Henry Waxman's; the walls are decorated with a bearskin, a walrus skull, and a wealth of other accessories to the representative's long-running Trapper-Jake-goes-to-Washington act."

/and oh yeah, the aide girl is hot.

Bacon and pork. Bacon and pork. Who brings it home, and who is going to get the most...

If you flip that Brimley/Brinkley stache upside down and place it ridiculously under his chin, you pretty much end up with Don Young!

Alaska gave us Sarah Palin and this mope. Maybe we paid too much for it.

It's more amazing that a Rice professor is on the environmental side. Deep in the heart of Houston, with big ties to the oil industry and the Saudis. And tuition used to be free unless you were brown.

I believe it's still free for families with adjusted income under $70K. School goal is that no working class student has debt upon graduation.

Why drill in Alaska, when you can drill more in the Gulf?

Expert witness goes where?

Kind of sad that it seems to take a college professor to realize that politicians are supposed to represent the interests of the people and not the other way around.

Still, it's a start.

Brinkley's about as liberal as they come. I'm sure he fits right in on any campus not named Liberty or Ave Maria.

Professor Brinkley spit the dummy over being called "Dr. Rice"? Really? The sad part is that Rep. Young failed to graduate college and still got farther in life than the learned Dr. Brinkley. But he can always take solace in the fact he has the 51st most popular book in Public Policy at Amazon.
