This is truely a sad day for America.

I propose we all go down to the nearest Occupy protest and mace a hippy in her memory.

Don't denigrate Maggie. At the very least her illness is the reason Daley is no longer mayor and we should all be thankful for that.

My condolences. Losing aunts & uncles sucks.

I had the privilege of meeting both Maggie Daley, and her husband, then-mayor Richard M. Daley when I was in college at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Very wonderful, gracious people. May she rest in peace, and may her family find comfort during this painful time.

I say we organize a 1000 plane buzz-by salute to the biatch who got her hubby to steal a public asset from Chicago in midnight raid so she could have more quiet at her condo.

Wow. Never read about story. Classy guy destroying an airport in the middle of the night and nearly standing the aircraft there.

I love that the result was the opposite of his "safety" justification. Wikipedia reports that the airspace around downtown Chicago became less restrictive after the airport was closed.

At one point Dick Daley laughed to the Sun-Times reporter and admitted that the security claim was just a ruse, but later he went back to it.

Besides them the hearing planes at their townhouse to the south of Meigs*, Maggie worked on the museum campus there and at some point asked hubby to give her the land. Since he slept with her he didn't need any other reason for the Dick move.

When Dick Junior kicks off all of the stories are going to hang Meigs on his memory like an albatross. It was a very unpopular move.

* Meigs closed at 10 PM. There would be no complaints at night. BTW, old man Daley built Meigs There was a plaque with Mayor Richard Daley, Sr. proudly taking credit at the grand opening.

Somehow I think the Parking Meter Lease fiasco was a little worse considering the money is already gone and we're only 2 years-ish into a 75 year long lease. Personally I wish him nothing but bad luck for all the years of graft and corruption he got away with.

2011-11-25 03:44:45 PM
My theory on why he didn't stand for election this time is because all of the money and fungible assets have already been pilfered.

2011-11-25 04:08:05 PM
Let's not forget the Skyway Lease. What a jackass move that was.

Maggie, may you rest in peace. I still dislike the things she prodded her husband to do.

/Fark "Northerly Island", shoulda stayed Meigs Field
//Only Chicago could proudly claim a Mayor named Dick M. Daley
