Aggies are changing conferences and apparently scheduling cross-conference annual games is too hard to do when ND manages fine every year.

Not to mention FSU-Florida, GT-UGA, Clemson-SC, formerly UVA-VT....I could go on and on here. Point being they're going full Pitt-Penn State on this rivalry for no reason other than UT's mad at ATM for leaving and ATM's mad at UT for AWing/hogging all the attention in Texas.

I dunno; I find this sad - in a sports kind of sad - in the sense that these are two really great academic institutions that won't be playing one of the top 10 rivalries in college football any more. I mean, it's not like Auburn/'Bama, where you have two diploma mills banging it out in an intra-state rivalry that determines who gets the most mouth-breathers in the next recruiting class.

There's always them high school games you can check out. You'd think with it being Texas and all they would have an NFL team by now.

You know, the Texas state legislature could fix this, and atone for the unforgivable sin of forcing the Big 12 to take Baylor over TCU.

Yeah, I can agree with this. But it would appear not one college is willing to keep rivalry over chasing dollars. Not anyone in D1 anyway. Texas/A&M is just one of the rivalries destroyed this year, what about Nebraska / Oklahoma? or how about in the Pac (number) where UW never plays USC or UCLA any more. How about Syracuse and Pitt abandoning ancient rivalries in the East (in whatever conference its been over the years).

College athletics is just in a state of transition, and fan rivalries aren't in the equation, not when it matters.

Columbus here, and you damn well better believe I care. Going to hit the rack in a few but I'll watch it off the DVR in the morning. I'm somewhat sure that the score won't be ruined for me at work.

You have until 1200 this Saturday to accept the terms I've previously laid out.

I love that even when Michigan is at home and is favored against their betters, you're still terrified of losing. You yip and you yap, just like a little ankle biter, but when pressed you always back off. This is easily Michigan's best chance since 2004 and you still don't think it will actually happen which provides me with great amounts of joy.

img221.imageshack.us

That feller hadn't even been captured the last time that Michigan used their nefarious and sundry ways to top their betters. With that in mind, I suppose it is easy to understand how you're so reticent about stepping up to the plate when you don't truly believe that Michigan will win.

1200, as per Fark's timestamp this Saturday. Take the bet, pogue.

The Aggies have a chance to go out on a high note before becoming the SEC's tackling dummy/foot in the door to recruiting Texas High School Football talent.

The Horns haven't figured out their QB dilemmas yet, and their best running weapon had his college career cut short with two torn ligaments, and while their D is pretty solid, they will struggle against an A&M team with similar problems.

Not the most exciting "final" game for the rivalry, but I really do believe that both teams will bring everything they have plus some for this game.

HOOK 'EM!

Generation_D: How about Syracuse and Pitt abandoning ancient rivalries in the East (in whatever conference its been over the years).

Former independent schools from the Northeast are bad examples. Let's say ten games constitutes a history with a team. Pitt has played 26 teams 10 times or more. Of those, nine are current or former Big East schools, one's Penn, and five are currently teams that are no longer in Division I, if at all. And of their top then, half are Big East teams, and two are sub-D1 teams. Syracuse is actually kinda worse. They've played 33 teams 10 times or more; 8 Big East, 9 FCS (5 of which are Ivys), 3 D-3s, 2 non-extant programs (BU and Niagara) and two - St. John's Military Academy and Syracuse AA - which aren't even colleges. And their top ten includes four Big East programs and three FCS schools. Hell, they've played their top two most often played rivals - Penn State and Colgate - three times in the past twenty years, and all three are in the last three years.

I truly do blame Penn State for the whole "dropping rivals once you go big time" thing. They stopped playing Pitt, Syracuse and WVU, their three longest-standing rivals, after joining the Big Ten. They'd have to play their current "trophy" game against MSU every year until 2043 before they even pass WVU, who's in third. Hell, other than Temple, they don't play anyone above MSU on their top rival list anymore on a regular basis, aside from the aforementioned home & home with Syracuse a few years back.

The two conferences could agree to let them play each other for Thanksgiving, well they could could if conferences were run by people who actually gave a damn about sports.

GAT_00: Aggies are changing conferences and apparently scheduling cross-conference annual games is too hard to do when ND manages fine every year.

"The Aggies don't want to play UT at the end of their season of SEC beatings, and UT doesn't want a possible spoiler game at the end of their season of Big 12* play" is how the logic goes behind neither team wanting to offer the first olive branch in scheduling a rivalry game after this season.

The truth is more about Pride and Cash. No profit for either right now, and there is some serious bad blood between programs because of The Longhorn Network and A&M's tantrums.

I don't think the SEC has a problem with playing a non conference rival in the last week of the season. Ask UGA, South Carolina, and Florida.

The only American college football game I ever went to was Texas A&M at U Texas in 1994. The spectacle of it all blew my mind. Any time I meet anyone from either school I love to talk about it.

Sorry to hear that it all is coming to an end.
