What if the wolf HAD to die so you could Fast Travel?

I came out of a shack and tried to FT, it says "You Cannot Fast Travel When Enemies Are Near". My Perception was a bit low, and no red markers indicated enemies, so I scout around and find this Coyote just walking around in a gulley, minding its own business. Hadn't even spotted me. And I'm, like, "sorry, dude, but you must die that I may Fast Travel, that's the way life works sometimes" so I shoot it in cold blood.

I try to FT again, only to AGAIN find "You Cannot Fast Travel When Enemies Are Near". Goddamnitsomuch. So I look a little further and find the offending glitch, a little Coyote Pup inside a burned out trailer. And it's not like it's charging after me snarling, the things's the size of a Fancy Lads Snack Cake, yet has still managed to earn the maligned status of Enemy on my Pip-Boy. Well, I DID just kill its momma, so I understand the Hostile status, but that's hardly the point, is it? Who is my Pip-Boy to judge him like this??

So now I'm, all, SERIOUSLY?? You're gonna make me SMOTHER A PUPPY or I can't Fast Travel? And I DON'T lose Karma over this?? I mean, if it said "You Cannot Fast Travel And Leave A Puppy To Starve To Death Without Its Mother", that would give me a certain fraction of a moral "out" here. Not even this.

I had hoped my Companion would make the situation go away for me, but apparently this was too cold-blooded even for Boone. I even turn my back and step back a bit, as if to say "Gee, if ONLY somehow this puppy would disappear before I turn back around, we could FT and GTFO here". There is only silence. Boone stares at me blankly. Lotta help there, Boone. Good to know you've got my back, as long as Hostile puppies aren't involved.

As the puppy yelped as it took some of my 10mm rounds, it went into slow-mo bullet time for no other reason than to illustrate and prolong the brutal agony of my actions. My only thought as its head separated from the skidding body was "I... just don't understand The Wasteland as much as I thought I did, apparently."
