This list is utter crap without Without You.

I used to work with a guy who was a huge Van Halen fan. Whenever the group came up I'd always talk about how Poundcake was the best VH song ever, just to mess with him.

Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love is their best song.

Unchained? Personally I would've gone with Panama, but I can see Unchained belonging there.

"Rolling Stone readers"? Both of them?

I didn't see "Finish What Ya Started" on that list.

There should be ZERO songs on that list with Sammy Hagar singing.

Damn right, because Sammy Hagar was so damn good, his time in Van Halen deserves its own top 10 list!

Ditto.

I like some of Sammy's solo work, I enjoy Cabo Wabo Tequila, and he seems like a cool guy, but Van Halen took a wrong turn when he joined the band.

Also:

"Right Now" is a schmaltzy pile of suck.

Van Hagar is not noticeably worse than Van Halen.

I rationalized Van Halen as becoming a completely separate band when Sammy joined. I am able to enjoy Van Hagar without comparing it to Van Halen and all is OK with the world.

I had my 'Diver Down' original LP up until a couple of years ago...then I stepped on it.

Indeed, and "Right Now" will always be the Pepsi Clear commercial song. It was also the theme song of some anti-drug presentation I had to sit through in high school.

"Right Now" should be #1. Suck it, old people.

"Get Up" was good. I'd say it was the one song that lived up to my expectations when Sammy joined the band.

You mean Jann Wenner picked RS readers ten best songs. Shocked there's no Yoko Ono covers on the list.

Rolling Stone was relevant-in 1970. I'll hate on them until Rush is inducted into the Rock Hall.

This. It also works for Black Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio.

I question the legitimacy of a "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" that inducts Metallica before Black Sabbath.

David Lee Roth becomes hard to listen to once you realize all the grunts and squeals are because he cannot handle the focus not being on him for more than 3 seconds.

There's a lot to question about Jann Wenner's Rock and Roll HOF. Sabbath was only about 15 years overdue being inducted.

There's one Van Halen song I like that I've heard on the radio many times.. but I don't know the actual name, and browsing the iTunes listing isn't turning it up. Chorus is something like "I wait while the sun goes down, I'm running straight for your heart, no way you can stop me now, as fine as you are".

Possibly the most clear case of sarcasm ever...Gary Cherone Era of Van Halen....LOL

Ice Cream Man, baby....

Weird. I think Van Halen struck gold with both Sammy and Dave. It's really remarkable the work they did with both singers, and most bands would kill to have the success they had with either. Van Hagar was different from DLR VH, but still good.

I remember around the time Dave left VH, Kevin DuBrow also parted ways with Quiet Riot. There was a panicked period where my friends and I thought DuBrow might end up as their singer.

Gary Cherone VH? THAT was an abortion.

"Dreams" is one of my favorite songs on my exercise iPod. I'm glad that made it.

That's about the extent of my opinion in Van Halen.

Didn't know if I had heard the words correctly. Especially the first two. Guess those two were the title.

(looks through track lists) Ah, from 1984.

They're lying - it wasn't 0% Gary Cherone era. I voted for Without You.

2011-11-24 04:42:09 PM
My personal favorite is the inside-out remake of "Feel your Love Tonight" - "Hear About It Later".

2011-11-24 04:42:36 PM
Van Halen and 1984 are the only truly great Van Halen albums

Otherwise, various songs from various albums.

Cathedral Secrets
Hear About It Later
Somebody Get Me A Doctor
Outta Love Again
And The Cradle Will Rock
Everybody Wants Some

List fails without:

Kashmir
Smoke on the Water
Walk This Way
TNT
Renegade
Ace of Spades
Jeremy
Rock You Like a Hurricane
Freebird
and Shout at the Devil

It's as if those readers have no idea who Van Halen was.

2011-11-24 05:07:20 PM
Not in any order:

Jamie's Cryin'
Outta Love Again
Dirty Movies
D.O.A.
Take Your Whiskey Home
Atomic Punk
Women in Love
Drop Dead Legs
House of Pain
Mean Street
