The lesson to all animals is: Hurry up and evolve a human face and we may choose not to eat you.

...family has decided to make the creature, which they named Rockefeller, a special guest at Thanksgiving dinner...

Rockefeller? They should have named it Pearl or something else innocuous. Naming an oyster Rockefeller is like naming a pet steer Wellington.

Really slow news day. What, no GOP debate last night? Cain and Perry take the night off or something?

I was going to say that there's a species of crab in Japanese waters that often has markings that look like a human face. The crab illustrated above is not that species. It is another species. Because the fishermen often spare crabs with the face-like markings, they may well be breeding more successfully.

That's evolution for you. Pointless but profitable, like infomercials or tele-evangelists.

You're speaking of the heike crab, and yes, the crab displayed above is one of them.

Your Google-fu must be weak. It was easy to find these two with a simple query for "Eva Carbonaro oyster".

Yeah, but my point is that readers shouldn't have to do that. If a journalist writes a story about the appearance of an object, the journalist should include a picture. It's not as if cameras are difficult to come by, after all.
