Sweet Jesus, Cavalier just hit the ball out of the stadium. Still remember the old joke, "eric Metcalf up the middle he's to the 10 the 20 past the 30 to the 40, the fifty and finally brought down at the 38 yard line. Loss of 17."

Some responded: I-80, I-90? (Cleveland-ish) 1-70? (Columbus-ish)

I'll split the difference, and take US-30. I still think of Mansfield as a "northern" city, and Lima likewise. But, get any closer to Columbus, and it's basically a northern extension of Kentucky and W. Virginia culture. (Then again, there are pockets of this all the way up through Michigan into the U.P.)

"The northernmost part of the south is pretty far north," as someone once said, more or less.

/License plates very funny, BTW

I'm glad they are doing this. I live near NYC and there are lot of cars with diplomatic plates around here. The diplomatic plates looked a lot like Ohio plates except the colors were reversed.

This caused me a lot of consternation. I'd be driving along when I would see what I thought was a diplomatic plate. I'd think to myself, "Man, that UN consular type person must be from some pathetic, third-world, hell-hole. Look at that rusted out wreck they're driving." Then I'd get a little closer and see that the car was from Ohio..........a pathetic, third-world, hell-hole.

Yeah. I went to Kent State as an out of state student from Upstate NY and I could tell anyone from southern Ohio immediately. And any white person from the Cincinnati area was always super racist.

Yeah, I know. All Ohio supplied was the curious, creative and technically adept creators of the airplane. North Carolina had the truly important stuff: a reliable supply of wind and a big pile of sand. How could we possibly take any of the credit?

/WTF is a tarheel, anyway?

Yes, hence the "conception / birthplace" designators.

The only thing NC contributed to the airplane was the wind and sand. Ohio provided the brains and guts. What is it about "First in Flight" and North Carolina anyway? That was 108 years ago. Has North Carolina contributed nothing else in those 108 years since? Or for that matter the 300 years before?

A buckeye is a tree, or, more specifically, the poisonous nut of the tree which looks like the eye of a deer. I know. We take solace in the fact that wolverines typically choke on them.

Your "conception/birthplace" comment is falacious. The Wright Flyer was conceived, designed, and built in Ohio. They loaded it up and took it to NC to fly it. So Ohio was the birthplace and NC is where it went to grad school. Put that on yer plates.
