so readers won't "feel cheated or disappointed in the slightest."

Anyone who is surprised a dead character came back to life hasn't been reading comics very long.

Hopefully they use this as an excuse to give Spider-man the boot from the team.

How many teams is that guy on, anyway? Four? Five? The guy needs a good nights rest.

A whole ten months? That's some kind of record, isn't it? I mean, if we don't count Bucky, that's a really long time to be dead.

Wolverine nods in sympathy.

Bucky wasn't even dead to begin with.

I believe the unwritten rule used to be the only people who stayed dead were Bucky and Uncle Ben. Now that Bucky has been brought back, it's just Uncle Ben.

If someone dies and then years later it's retconned that they weren't actually dead, that still counts as a comic book undeath.

I meant the second time when everyone thought he died during Fear Itself.

They mention the Richards dying, but no mention of The Thing and his being written back to life by God/Jack Kirby?

2011-11-24 10:26:43 AM

They killed off Superman and brought him back to life, so why would any other character stay dead?
And one of my favorite villains is Doomsday and I liked the background of where he came from.

Wow, this wasn't a cry for attention in the least.

Give me a dead character, who comes back to life, only to still be dead... AND KICK ASS.

The Waynes were never "alive" in comics. They were always just used in "This is why Batman is farked up in the head" flashbacks.

And I think at this point the list of who hasn't died would be shorter than the list of who has been brought back.

Is Gwen Stacy still dead, or have they dug up her corpse to add more tension to Spider-Man stories?

Comic publishers keep doing that because fands keep falling for it and so they keep doing that instead of coming up with something original

Almost got Captain Marvel back but they backpedaled on that rather fast.

I want the Sentry back so they can kill him appropriately.
Or shunt him into another Universe where he gets torn apart by MiracleMan or something.

You don't get to just write a character as God and then kill him by smacking him with an airship. It's a lame cop-out.

2011-11-24 10:55:26 AM
I'm not surprised they're bringing him back, I'm just surprised they couldn't even wait a year. The sales on FF without Torch must be awful.

Yep.

"Deaths", #1 issues, reboots...

And the dumbass fanboys lap it up.

Anyone who buys crap like Fantastic Four/Force/FF or any DC Comic has no right to complain about comic books, because you obviously like having the same old turd polished up and shoved back in your face, and you're just contributing to the problem.

I think you can strike the Krypton thing off of there, the cities apparently just shrunk themselves to avoid doom and haven't all returned to full size yet. That's where power girl comes from in one of her various origins, iirc.

With all the "zombie" redos of various comics, have Bruce Wayne reunited with his zombie parents and then he has to kill them himself.

result -- even more f'ed up goddamn Batman.

Heh. I'd love to see the Kryptonians follow Superman's lead, and come to Earth as colonizers.

Don't know. Ben is the most interesting character. The other three are boring.

There was something like that pre reboot. Kandor, where Supergirl is from, got unshrunk. Superman lived with them for awhile despite the fact they were being led by Zod. I think it eventually got destroyed.

No, Mockingbird is alive. As for Jean, if you go by the theory that Hope is Jean then she's alive too. Thunderbird was briefly revived during Chaos War.

Yeah. When Torch died, I think everyone was all like "Meh. He'll be back" and carried on as normal. I don't know anyone broken up about it.

The whole point of his "death" was that it was unconfirmed. No body, no death. That's what the Torch story in 600 was about.

So, everyone was right and F4 did go back to issue #600 after 10 or 11 issues of FF?

I really hate Marvel and DC.

It's not about the team, it's about the monsters. When FF is being a weird-science monster comic, it's at its best.

They should have just brought back the original Human Torch and put him on the FF.

Aren't you a precious little elitist prick.

It being a Fantastic Four comic, or it being a cape comic, does not automatically preclude it from telling interesting and entertaining stories with likable old and new characters.

texdent: Hope is Jean

Hope is not Jean, though it's obvious that she was created/modeled around giving Marvel/the EIC the chance to bring Jean back if they wanted.

No, but there's enough interesting stuff happening outside of the Marvel/DC imprints that I have no urge to send them my money.

It wasn't original, but I quite liked the idea of a whole multiverse of Reed Richards' uniting to be the greatest collection of assholes of all of time and space.

Yes, but his obstinate "you have no right to complain" statement is just being a dick.
Enjoying a comic because it's good shouldn't automagically mean you don't get to criticize the source or their decisions if it happens to be a DC/Marvel cape comic.

Unless that criticism is founded under the belief that such actions were unexpected, in which case I'd agree with him as such shenanigans are very common in the 'big two'.
