Nice headline, and it is actually a serious issue whether you believe in the idea of hate crime laws or not. Also, mullet.

I'm sorry, but if these men were Muslims, and had attacked anyone else, people would be on fark screaming about Sharia law this, and persecution of civil rights that.

What these men did was assault and battery with a religious motivation. It's a hate crime in the purest sense of the word. It'd be no different than if I decided to kill a woman because she wasn't wearing her burka/magical Joesph Smith Undergarments.

Descartes: I blame the Mullet.

Yeah, I can imagine how a man named Mullet might have a vendetta against hair.

I'm all for prosecuting hate crimes as hate crimes. What it seems like, though, is that this beef was personal. The attackers are an Amish "splinter group" who are still clearly Amish-esque in appearance.

Not a police detective here, but if I had to lay odds: 1) we hate you and we're getting revenge for some old thing you did, or 2) our splinter group is newer and better and you "Old Amish" can suck it.

Having had the great good fortune of dealing with and becoming friends with several Amish over the years, this is disturbing. The Amish bishops would probably find that Mullet's greatest offense is the sin of pride - he's so prideful that he believes he is unquestionably right. The Amish bishops I've known are the last authority in their group but seldom make a major decision without the counsel of the elders and even their wives. A bunch of humility and a little self-doubt can actually make a person a better leader. Mullet has apparently lost that. Add to that a dose of vengeance against perceived wrongs and federal prison becomes a good option as his future residence.

Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen his type before: Flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention.

Ooohh, a splinter group of Amish. Did they wear multicolored socks?

Amish people,
arming themselves with pepper spray, mace and shotguns.
Installing locks on their doors for fear of being attacked... by Amish extremists

Amish extremists who threaten them over the phone (how the FARK does that work? Who do these extremists call? Do they call the amish targets neighbors and ask them to carry a threatening note to them? Can you imagine that call?)
Amish extremists who attack them with electric clippers (musta been battery powered 'cause where you gonna plug them in?)
Amish extremists who's idea of punishing someone for their perceived sins is a haircut.
And the guys name is MULLET.

I have DIED laughing about this.
It is the funniest thing I have heard in years.
Truth, always stranger than fiction.

Oh,
And "Amish Hair Cut Attack Force" tm is my new band name.

They have attacked at least four people. The beef isn't personal against a single person but against anyone who disagrees with them. Also you can still commit a hate crime against somebody of the same religion with religious motivation. Just because you share a religious identity doesn't mean you agree 100% on every idea of your religion.

I have to agree with BronyMedic, this is a hate crime in its purest sense.

I don't really disagree. I'm just saying, the motivation is probably more interesting than "look at those stupid Amish, let's cut their hair." There's a story behind this one.

/ A nasty story, I'm sure, but a story.

A guy named "Mullet" forcing people to get haircuts?

Reminds me of the Jeffries Financial CEO who's company is embroiled in this whole MF Global scandal. The CEO of this company that is probably going to go bankrupt as a result is named "Dick Handler".

This just shows to go you that there are extremists in any religion.

In at least four violent attacks over the last few months, groups of men from Mullet's compound held men down to shear their beards with scissors and battery-operated clippers.

Oh, man...Jeebus is going to be SO pissed at them...

Amish on Amish hate crime: I never saw that one coming. I think that trying to equate this with Muslim terrorism is a bit extreme. When they start blowing themselves and others up because we are all infidels, then maybe we could make that an =.
