This sounds like a challenge....

Fun fact: There's an African tribe (the Dinka people, if I'm not mistaken) that has an annual contest where the men engorge themselves on milk to try to gain as much weight as they can so that they can be judged on their fatness. Some of the men drink and eat so much in an effort to gain weight that their stomachs would rupture, killing them.

I'm guessing that if the answer is "Yes", then it would likely involve a serious preexisting condition that has weakened the stomach, like a severe ulcer.

This was a triumph...

If my brother's stomach is still intact, the answer is no.

Fark the turkey this is what we are having for thanksgiving:

Most of it cams fresh from my garden, the mushrooms from the greenhouse of a neighbor and the beef and chicken were marinated overnight in teriyaki and sesame oil, will be served over fried rice with fresh sesame seed bread and sake.

BeerBear: didn't mythbusters proved this was bunk?

Yup. They filled a pig stomach with soda and pop rocks. Thing expanded like 4x it's normal volume and didn't burst.

Several years ago I remember a story about a man whose stomach exploded after eating an 80 pound pig. I first saw in a store's checkout line in Weekly World News, a couple weeks later real news orgs were reporting it.

Long, long ago I saw the movie Caligula. In one scene a guard was drinking on duty. They tied him to a post. Tied his pee-pee so he could not go. they used a funnel to force him to drink a shait load of wine. Then they sliced his gut open. Even with the pathetic special effects it was a disturbing image that I still remember.

Wow, that looks awesome! Probably a heck of a lot healthier than many of us will be having :)

The bottle of "Kaboom" on top of the hoarder pile in that pic really sets off the "gourmet" stir fry in the electric wok.

I'm less worried about my stomach bursting than my intestines. That is where the real pain hits after a binge.

It's possible, but you're more likely to overwhelm your cardiac sphincter and have food come back up your esophagus. I'd say aspiration into lungs is the more likely scenario.

Sounds to me like they should have tried filling it 5x, and noting differences between pigs stomachs and human stomachs, as it's clearly possible, so they were wrong.

I liked mythbusters, but I'd get annoyed watching them declare something busted when clearly it isn't.

No pigs were harmed, no matter how much we tried.

No, you will vomit first. I know, I did it on Thanksgiving when I was about 12.

Sure, there's always Pig-bel.

Discover Magazine did an interesting article about it back in the day.

Sure it can, my cousin's boyfriend's neighbour's dogwalker's nephew's stomach burst from eating too much.

2011-11-25 02:44:21 AM
Mine could, but then again, that's because my stomach is about the size of a tennis ball, or slightly smaller, as a result of roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery.

2011-11-25 02:58:25 PM
Came for one waffer thin mint. Leaving satisfied.
