So let's get this straight - they think he's a moron, but still smarter than everyone in DC? I'd toss our pinhead president and his entire staff in with that statement and have to agree with him...

LordZorch: they think he's a moron, but still smarter than everyone in DC?

They didn't say anything about comparative intelligence, but the tone of the debate. Maybe you shouldn't be commenting on anyone's intelligence.

That is the best description I have ever heard of Newt Gingrich.

I love that you all think anyone but Perry and Romney will be in this thing. Newt is just the next favor of the month. In two weeks it will be Santorum, and there will be endless frothy threads.

I don't know why you think Perry will be in this thing. He lacks knowledge, gravitas and...the third thing. I forgot. Ooops.

Let's look at the board. Only Perry and Romney have the money and staff to run a national campaign. Only Romney and Perry have the backing of SuperPACs that will dominate the middle and end of the primary season. In 2010, the GOP base elected O'Donnell over Castle, in Nevada they nominated Sharon Angle, in New York they nominated Crazy Carl, and countless other states and districts the crazy won out.

Crazy will outwork sane.

Dusk-You-n-Me: 'he's a stupid man's idea of what a smart person sounds like,'

....excellent.

BUT...Newt is a very, very smart man. He won't be elected- he doesn't want to be elected. This is a book tour.

If you've actually listened to him, all he's done is blamed Obama for EVERYTHING. He doesn't propose new ideas or alternatives, he just blames Obama and the liberal media- watch him pick on the moderators. He does that for a reason.

Its is absolutely red meat to a certain segment of the population. The two minute hate people eat that shiat with a spoon, and in doing so, Newt's book sales go up.

I view Gingrich and types like him are THE problem with our government. He's an extremely adept manipulator, one of the best I've seen out there. Very scary.

Yeah, that's a good point. He's adept at manipulating, sure, but only the really stupid people. His reach doesn't go that far. As one of the redlighted articles stated, he's the stupid person's idea of what a smart person sounds like.

I used to work near the top of the tallest building in Wichita, so I'm getting a kick out of this.

That being said: Epic.

No really, the building is called the Epic Center.

Oh how they love to eat their own. So Newt's intellectual capacity is being attacked by the intellectual hacks that work at right-wing think tanks. Look at the dreck they publish. None of it is peer-reviewed nor does it comprise much in the way of original research. it's just propaganda that gould not get published in any true scholarly journal.

Let's face it. It's no shock to anyone, including conservatives, that conservatives are intellectually lazy, incurious, distrustful of intellect, disdainful of education and run on the idea that ignorance is as good as knowledge. It only stands to reason that they'd have a dimbulb as the smart one in their crowd.

Never has the tallest building in Wichita been so insulted.

I've never heard Gingrich say anything that sounded intellectual. All of the political statements I've ever heard out of him have been along the lines of, "This is another typical sick, twisted, warped attempt by liberals to herpy derpy herpy derp American values, and the American people won't stand for it." His rhetoric has always been based on painting the other side as degraded and disgusting.

I grant you that this is above the level of "We gonn' stomp them thar [hate term of choice] into the dirt," but that hardly gives it "tallest building in Wichita" status. More like, "five millimeters above the level of pond scum."

Newt's claptrap rises above the level of debate in...the overall SENATE!?!? Oh please, it doesn't even rise above that of the Republican primary debates. The only reason he isn't last right now in polls about the GOP contenders is because everyone else is just taking their turn at the bottom.

This is when you know how intellectually hollow the GOP is: Newt makes an obvious observation that if Apple can manage to innovate year after year, there's not reason why it should take 15 years to build a new defense system, and thus, we could afford to cut military spending without sacrificing national security. What's the reaction of everyone else running for the GOP nomination? To pledge not to make any cuts to the nearly $700 billion defense budget.

In four years I'm running for President. My platform will simply be: cut the defense budget by $100 billion and give everyone making less than $200k a massive tax cut. And when someone says I'm weak on national security, I'll point out that at $600 billion we're still spending more than China, Russia, France, Germany, North Korea, Iran, South Korea, Canada, Australia, etc. combined. And if you dare respond to that, then you are clearly a shill of a defense contractor -- why do you hate America?

Probably because his people send it out to as many people as possible, hoping that some of them are willing to pay $5000 for an award from him.

Too many people in this thread are defining "smart" as "agrees with me, politically."

The fact is, Newt is smarter than everyone in this thread (including me, obviously).

Attack his beliefs and values all you want, but it's intellectually lazy to assume Newt is stupid because he disagrees with you.

Remember boys and girls, it's the *conservatives* who are anti-intellectual*. When you see liberals trash talking a man with a doctorate degree, that's entirely a different thing. Obama having a degree from Harvard proves he's an intellectual, but Bush having degrees from Harvard and Yale is an idiot.....

*Of course, this also requires you to ignore that, on average, conservatives have more education than liberals, but it's okay, when you apply your liberal bias to facts, you can ignore any fact that doesn't fit that liberal bias. Feel free to research the GSS results to confirm, no, I'm not going to do the work for you, it's called "Googgle", use it.

The Fact IS, Newt says many stupid and dishonest things all the time.

Perhaps some of them are part a genius plan to convince morons to buy his books, but there's nothing of value coming from him.
