if Forbes had estimated his worth at $1 Trillion, he would claim he was worth at least $1.5 Trillion. Such is the way of the narcissist.

2011-11-23 12:37:40 PM
In one sense he's correct. His wealth is based in large part on the perceived amount of his wealth, and that perception is marketed to create said wealth.

Where would he stand if he had to pay back hie bankruptcy debts?

fark Donald Trump.

Of course he's worth more. He hides his money under his ferret then files bankruptcy after not paying his bills.

Pay your notes deadbeat!

This just in: while not commonly used, contracting "will" to a pronoun with " 'll" is perfectly cromulent english.

"You'll pay for this!"

"Oh, he'll be sorry!"

"There'll be hell to pay for this!"

Somewhere, someone else has it worse than you. Therefore, all of your arguments about inequality are invalid

If that's the case, the Republicans should STFU and hike taxes on the rich.

I agree with you but I'll play Devil's Advocate and say that they DO if it serves their vanity. Other people, mostly George Ross, run the Trump Organization. Donald's job is to preen and blow hot air and be a kind of spokesman and figurehead and a reality show plays into that. It suits him because he likes attention.

And you murdered neither of them? That should qualify you for some sort of award right there. I did once know a guy like that (If he was in the mood for a Po'boy he'd jet off to New Orleans for lunch and be back by dinner) Bu he had the excuse that his mom was a stewardess and this was back in the grand pre-9/11 days of air travel where because of his mom he could fly free on any of her airline's planes that had an empty seat simply by showing up and showing an ID card to the flight crew.

If he had billions of dollars he could buy his own network and be on TV all day long to suit his vanity instead of posting his stupid AW videos on YouTube for free.

Somewhere, someone else has it better than me, and they should have to give me the difference, just because.

Not really a better argument, but whatever floats your boat.

Exactly. He's a figurehead. Trump, Inc. calls him in when they need to impress someone or twist someone's arm.

I sincerely doubt his net worth is truly that much or anywhere near it, unless you're counting non-monetary assets like "fame" or "name recognition"

The only money he has is from real estate (in which you always owe more than you have and hope the market goes up) and he went bankrupt several times there; and from the Apprentice TV show, for which he is not the producer and does not own the rights, so he's just well-paid talent, but in the millions, not billions.

Unless they're just counting assets not debt. Which is a lunatic way of calculating worth.

How is it that none of his bankruptcies merited mention in that article? WTF?

2011-11-23 02:35:43 PM
At $3 billion his biggest asset -- by far -- is brand value, which according to a note "has been established by Predictiv, the highly respected brand valuation company."
The company, the note continues, "measures the financial impact of intangibles such as brand, strategy execution, innovation and post-merger integration."

How the hell did Forbes miss that huge intangible asset on his balance sheet?
What? It's not on his balance sheet?
Because "strategy execution" it's not an asset you say?

Argument A is a straw-man argument that implies that all people must attain exactly the same wealth (an idea which - contrary to conservative rhetoric - no sane "liberals" actually endorse). Argument B suggests that the success or failure of some is in no way reliant on - or impacts - those around them. Correcting for snark-factor, neither one of these things makes any sense.

That anyone in the top 10% would feel that they are being shorted by a bargain in which they give up a small percentage more (read: marginal tax rates) on income above a level which is several times more than the average income, in order to live in a stable society in which the terror of financial catastrophe doesn't bring the masses to the gates of the wealthy with pitchforks, is completely irrational. To insist that this sentiment means that everyone should be limited to exactly the same amount of wealth is disingenuous at best. For anyone who doesn't have access to stratospheric wealth to either of these views is just plain stupid.

So when Trumps says he's worth $3 billion is it personal wealth or business value? When he starts making the distinction then I think your point will be valid.

I don't really give a crap whether you think my point is valid or not. He had ownership in a business that filed chapter 11, then reemerged with their debt restructured. The businesses are still viable so whatever ownership stake he has in it is part of his net worth.

Delta Airlines went through bankruptcy a while back. If I owned 50% of Delta Airlines now, does that mean it doesn't count when I'm trying to figure out my net worth? Of course not - only a farking idiot would think that.

Why don't you go back into your hole and get an education before you post again.

Donald Trump has zero respect for the mechanisms of the US that have allowed him to become wealthy. He has no respect for the office of President. He sees running for President as a mere publicity tool and finds no shame in doing so. He is utterly incapable of solemnity; he is the type who would laugh at a funeral. The man turns my stomach in the worst way. Everything about him screams: slimy, greedy, fake, obnoxious.

Besides, how much time does that show require every week? 30 minutes?

Why Would I Read the Article: if you are lucky enough to be born and live in America, you are the 1%, much as you like to pretend otherwise.

That's retarded.

For one thing; the US has something like 4% of the world's population, so even if every single American was better off than everyone else in the entire world (something utterly asinine on the face of it), still only 25% of us could be in the top 1%.

While his name may be worth $3 Billion, his character is $6 Billion in the red. The only thing keeping him on his feet is the para-sail of hair wrapped around the top of his head.
