Yay finally another green!

Working on the companions quest and there was a ridiculously tough enemy in one dungeon. Went full on Beast Mode and it wasn't so much of a problem anymore.

If there was a 'Best Water Effects in a Video Game' Skyrim would win. I just stand on rocks in the river and watch it flow by!

I remember the very first time I went out at night, that was the first thing I saw. It was insanely cool.

I'm also 99% sure I saw a lunar eclipse.

WTH is a "4gb aware switch"?

It allows the game to use more than 2gb of RAM.. Without it, the PC version has randomly farked textures and constant CTDs. Most developers just enable this in their binarys out of the gate. Bethsoft didn't, so the community patched it themselves (you can patch any game with it, it's just a file header parm) so the game is stable. Then Bethsoft's first patch for the PC locked the game to Steam, so if you patched your copy of the binary Steam basically flags your game as illegal and you can't run it.

There are launchers now that circumvent this but tons are pissed off because Bethsofts first patch was basically DRM locking the game to Steam.

Have they confirmed that was intentional? That's very, very, very unlike them to do.
Also, if Steam flags it as tampered, does that mean you can't play it?

Beerguy: WTH is a "4gb aware switch"?

For some reason, all Bethsoft games only make use of 2gb of ram max, no matter how much you have installed. There are ways to make the game 4gb 'aware' so that it uses all your ram. One is using a loader exe, another is using editing software to check a simple box to tweak the original exe.

/don't know the actual software details, just how to tamper with Bethesda games

Some
people have that problem. Not all. It's difficult to tell what percentage since only the people having the problem complain on forums, naturally.

For example, I'm not having the problem at all. But I can easily imagine others having it.

Nope. It's tied to Steam now.. They incorporated DRM AFTER release.

You can still delete the executable, let Steam restore the server-side version, then run the game right?

I mean, it's a shiat move altogether, but they aren't killing peoples' copies of the game altogether, I assume?

Ahhh didn't read that part. So they locked it from being able to run straight from the .exe? That is pretty farked up.

If the game was actually exceeding 2GB it might matter. Can't recall an instance where Skyrim would even come close to that...even for me and I'm running at max settings with 4 custom 2048x2048 texture packs.

That's what they changed. There was a tweaked .exe file as a fix that bypassed Steam, but the recent patch tied the .exe to Steam so that method doesn't work anymore.

The PS3 lag issue is really screwing the experience. First 25 hours I was thinking game of the year, now I'm thinking how can I get a refund. Aiming sucks in this game as well. Oh what I wouldn't do for a target lock system. I shouldn't be able to miss a person standing 6 inches in front of me. It's ok in first person view, but for some reason if you go to the third person view your shots don't fire to the center, they fire to the right. Super ghey and counter intuitive. If a target is dead center in front of me, my lighting bolts should connect.

Backstabbing and slitting throats is working great though.

Yep, I noticed that. At first you could also just run the game from the executable on your harddrive. Now it loads Steam automatically, forcing you to be online to play. fark them.

Having a blast. But I did manage to fark up a quest this morning. Blood on the ice. You're supposed to track down a jack-the-ripper type character in windhelm. It's a short side mission so no real spoilers involved.

I walk into town, start investigating, then go to talk to the Jarl's sidekick about it. Aaaaaand he gives me some stuff to do. Like go investigate the crime scene... that I already investigated and isn't there anymore. And track down some leads... that I already tracked down and can't re-track down. I haven't even been able to just "complete" the quest via console. The player.setstage command isn't helping. I'd be very grateful for any advice.

I just realized I'm about 60 hours in and have yet to touch the main questline in about 55 of those hours.

*Dark Brotherhood Listener
*Thieve's Guild Master

Has anyone done the Bard's questline? I kind of want to (got the initial quest), but I don't wanna be just running around looking for a guy's lost lute or flute or banjo every time.

Follow the blood trail on the ground. It should lead to a house. Once you get there it will trigger the next stage of the quest.

Bard's quest is stupid. All you end up with is three instruments that weigh and can't be dropped.

If the guard is still there, talk to him and tell him you've been sent to investigate. If not, try following the blood patches to a building, pick the lock and search inside.

Maybe I need to be more explicit about the series of events.

*KINDA SORTA SPOILERS*

So I roll into town, and see the group of people in the graveyard around the dead body. I talk to the guard, talk to all the people, then follow the trail of blood. I break into the house, thoroughly investigate. Found the amulet, both journals, and the secret room. I follow the trial of clues about the amulet to the curiosity's house guy who tells me it's the mage's. Then I went and talked to the Jarl's assistant. He gave me the following quest points: examine the crime scene (nothing there anymore), get assistance from whatshisname (no dialog options about this), and follow up on the clues from the house (already did).
