Come home to Chicago, buddy.
I hope Hanie plays awesome, but I have love for this guy.

Dear Bears, please sign Orton right before you play the Raiders.

2011-11-23 09:39:21 AM
It was bound to happen. If the Broncos can't get a draft pick for him, hopefully someone in desperate need of a QB will pick him up and be on the hook for his salary.

I had high hopes for Orton when we got him. It's too bad he went in the crapper. Now I'm in the position of having to root for Jesus Christ Tebow to succeed, and while the wins have been great, I'm not naive enough to think that if he can't develop as a passer, this gravy train can continue. And neither does Elway, thank FSM.

Or Indianapolis.

KC is an intriguing possibility, though. After what he's been through in Denver, dealing with "The Haley" on a daily basis will probably be a cakewalk.

Orton pushed for his release after Cutler went down...I'm sure he or his agent had some contact with the Bears and there was some mutual interest. Hanie had a 'good' game in the NFC Champ game (if 2 INTs is 'good'), but he wasn't in the game plan, so i'm sure it was a fluke...

Don't go to Chicago. They'll turn on you quicker then I'd dissapoint Salma Hayek in bed. If you're smart, and they offer you a contract, go to Huston.

The only way he doesn't go to the Bears is if the Redskins claim him first.

2011-11-23 09:52:59 AM
If the Chefs sign him I'm going to be legitimately pissed. 4 wins is not going to get us Luck, but it might get us a Top 5 pick. We might still be able to score that stud O-lineman from USC or Justin Blackmon. We don't need no semi-competent QB's coming in and ruining that for us.

Orton could start this Sunday for Chicago. He knows the entire playbook. He played for Lovie Smith.

But not Mike Martz...totally different offense

I thought the Bears were wrong in trading him. They wait it out until he starts to show some promise, then trade him? As much as I'd like him back, Orton didn't play for Mike Martz, don't know if he'd fit as well this time around.

This would be the funniest option. Replacing Grossman again.
But if he is going to ride the bench somewhere, let it be in Chicago. I don't care if the owners pay him.

stranger yet if Arizona makes a run at him, which was opined yesterday.

After all, forgotten in the Kolb/Skelton QB situation is that the Cardinals made a push at Orton. There was a brief period when Philly was asking waaaaay too much for Kolb (a 1, a 2, and a 4 and cash i think) and all reports were that Arizona was walking away from Philly and reaching out to Denver.

Whiz is too proud to bring him in and admit another defeat at the QB position so it won't happen. but the fact that under Whiz' watch we're still at least considering adding another QB says all you need to know.

Whiz and Graves have burned through and astonishing number of QBs since Warner left.

and as I said yesterday, Kolb and Skelton have the exact same number of starts in Arizona: SEVEN. Kolb has 14 career starts total. Why exactly are we writing Skelton off and thinking when Kolb is healthy, that we're going to the promised land?

which is why we need to clean house in the desert. Whiz can't stop patting himself on the back for how he, as Pittsburgh's either OC or QB coach, "developed" Benny Roth.

well, look at all the draft picks/signings that have occurred at the position under his and Graves' watch. There is credible speculation (i know, a bit of a weird way to put it) that Arizona is interested in Orton.

How many more times are we going to let Whiz and Graves stumblefark at the QB position, in a QB league? It is ridiculous.

with as high a draft pick as we're likely to have -- top 10 is a mortal lock and top 5 isn't out of the realm of possibility -- and with the expected depth at the QB position next april, there's probably no way we don't pick a QB.

We've seen this movie before. *cough cough* drafted Skelton. Signed Max Hall (now out of football, i believe; he had 3 starts just last year!), signed DA ("that's fine!"), signed Bartel, traded for Kolb, by some accounts are in the running for Orton, are probably going to HAVE to draft another QB.....

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Abso freaking lutely ri-godamn-diculous.

He HAS to go to the Chiefs. Seriously, he has too.

Imagine the media hype about Kyle Orton's return again Tim Tebow, especially if Orton does good.

It'd be great. Fark would go nuts.

Plus they could keep him as insurance if Matt Cassel goes in the crapper.

2011-11-23 10:30:54 AM
Much like Tim "all he does is win" Tebow, Orton had a decent 21-12 record with the Bears. Granted, it was mostly game-managing. Then again, he usually completed more than 2 passes per game.

The best reason I've read for the Bears getting Orton isn't for him to start immediately, it for the Bears to use him as a scouting tool against the AFC West (given the Bears next three opponents are against the AFC West, including Denver), while he is kept on the bench for insurance purposes against Hanie getting injured/Martz hatred of Hanie's Favre-ish gunslinger style.

i mean, STL already has their franchise QB so that's one QB not being taken. Carolina wont' take another QB.

2011-11-23 10:33:19 AM
If the Jets weren't stuck with Sanchez for another 3 years (I believe), I would make a case for them to pick him up. Young QBS don't work out well with Rex Ryan (see Chan Pennington). So the Jets need to either dump their QB/Off coaches or dump Sanchez and someone whose got some moxie. Maybe sign Orton, dump Sanchez at the end of the season to get some draft picks, perhaps?

I wouldn't say you HAVE to draft another QB, since I think the Skelton train could go somewhere.

I feel bad for DA about that. he could not have handled that worse. all he had to say was "hey man, in the trenches, in the heat of the moment, there's gallows humor, what Deuce and I talked about was one of those things, next question."

instead he condemned himself to a lifetime of "NFL's Top 10 wackiest press conference" replays on NFL network.

i mean, players do touchdown dances or sack dances when they're down by 24. that's just as bad. no one gets killled for that.

i hate white knighting DA but.....yeah. he handled that exceedingly badly.

oh, make no mistake, I'm not giving up on Skelton. I was the one guy in Cardinal Nation begging the 'chise NOT to do the Kolb trade. I was the one saying "give Skelton the keys and ride it out!" Sunday, h played like what he is: a rookie making his 7th NFL start against the NFL's premier defense. shiat happens.

But, with the expected depth at QB, we can't pass that up. that's all I'm saying.

Foles.....Phoenix is still a largely "sun devil-centric" town. People wouldn't root against him, but there would be some feathers ruffled. We went nuts when we drafted both Jake Plummer and Pat Tillman. People were mad we weren't able to draft Andrew Walter. People were rigthfully pissed when we passed on Terrelle Suggs. Hell, there was an ASU WR that the Rams eventually got, Shaun McDonald or some such, and people were bent the Cards didn't take him one year. There's no doubt about the ASU myopia many Cardinals fans have.

Give you another example: Rudy Carpenter was ASU QB circa 2006-2008. (He was pretty bad.) He was later signed by the Cowboys and now I think might be the #3 Rams or Jags QB. Not sure. Anyways, the usual myopians wanted teh Cards to sign him.

Foles wouldn't be a popular pick but the true citizens of Redbird Nation wouldn't care.

we want ballers.

I mentioned this before but, for Orton to reach Chicago in Waivers he has to pass Atlanta, New York Giants, Dallas and Philly.

All four of those teams are in direct competition with Chicago for a Wild Card slot. Orton costs $2.5 million even if you don't play him.

How much would you spend just to sabotage Chicago's Wild Card chances?

Game management is the reason Chicago is the only place he is going. You don't pay 3 mil for 6 games for scouting. You pay 3 mil for a QB to keep you in the playoff hunt. Especially when you are expecting your starter is expected to return right around the time the playoffs kick off.

No one is going to offer him a contract this year period. If you ar enot in the playoff hunt he is wasted money for this year.

Whether there's a new offense or not, Orton will continue his clock-management awesomeness, methodically moving the Bears down the field for 2-4 field goals a game so they can lose 17-9 each game for the rest of the season.

Not interested.

/not my call, either
