(Gawker) Dumbass At the debate last night, Michele Bachmann either made up a bunch of shiat about Pakistan nuke sites being attacked by terrorists, or she just eloquently showed why she can't be trusted on the House Intelligence Committee   (gawker.com) divider line 150

While we're wandering around the topic: why is this classified information?

Don't the terrorists already know how many, if any, attacks they've made on Paki nuke sites?

So why is this information hidden from the American public?

I wonder what, exactly, are her qualifications for that role? Does having an army of foster kids make you a pro on foreign intelligence matters? Plus, that's a pretty coveted committee.

Err, wouldn't that be Bush II, the Commander-in-Chief saying "Okay, if y'all haven't done anything by 4pm next Friday, we're invading". Amassing forces in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia?

I'd imagine Saddam had more than one advisor who sometimes checked Fox News and CNN, just for the lulz.

Possible reasons:

1. They may know how many they have carried out but don't know how many we know they have carried out. This could potentially give clues about where the US has agents/informants.

2. The US and Pakistan have agreed to keep some of this stuff quiet to avoid embarrassments to either government.

3. The US and Pakistan don't want to embolden terrorists with large numbers of reports on attacks, or give them ideas for improving their attacks.

4. The government makes almost anything military related 'classified'

I'm amazed by that... it's not even a retcon. EnviroDude's outright put together an ElseWorlds interpretation of the Iraq war. It's not even a good ElseWorlds, like Superman: Red Son. It's a crazy, shiatty one, like the one where Batman becomes a vampire.

Fox news viewers aren't smart enough to change the channel, so my guess would be 'no'

I think it's amazing that party affiliation matters more than the person, for example in a fox news viewer's eyes, Bachman > President Clinton.

I remember sitting down with Saddam on that fateful day. It was right after we finished up in the harem, which was particularly luxurious. If you've never been given a traditional rub down by an Iraqi harem girl you haven't lived.

Anyway, all of us were there including The Queen, representatives from the Vatican, the Gettys, the Rothschilds, and the descendants of Col. Sanders. We told Saddam what was coming his way, but he didn't want to listen to us. It didn't matter much, we were far more interested in getting back to the harem.

Did you people not see what the Heritage Foundation pulled last night?

They trotted out all their criminal heroes. Meese, Addington, Wolfowitz. And had them proudly stand up and ask a question.

These people should have gone to prison. They know it. The Heritage Foundation knows it. AND THAT'S WHY THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION HAD THEM ASK A QUESTION.

I was looking for Oliver North to give John Poindexter a reach-around while John asked a question about how many rifles equals a pound of cocaine.

Don't you see? Potter's not selling. Potter's buying.

Wake the fark up or the Heritage Foundation and their crowd are going to fark us again. Deeper and harder than they did with two wars. They'll have a new VP who may aim lower when he shotgun blasts someone he disagrees with.

They'll put our volunteer army in Iran. Do you remember 15 month, multiple tours with little time off between? Do you remember our troops salvaging steel plate and welding on equipment because Rummy "went to war with the army you have"?

These people want back in power and they'll use the same criminals and the same tactics they have in the past to attain power and keep it.

Isn't there any shame in having Wolfowitz, Addington and Meese being paraded around as heroes?

Maybe they do the intelligence committee meetings the same way we handle our 90 IQ guy at work. We can't fire him because he'd bring a lawsuit. But at the same time, there's no way we need to go over code-section changes with him in the room. So, we just tell him the meeting starts at 3:45 and really start it at 3:00. That way, when he shows up, we can say "Oh, we just got started... so, who's bringing donuts on Friday?"

I'll bet Bachmann brings a lot of donuts to the committee meetings.

The perfect thing for Bachmann is that there can be no repercussions. The only possible official response is "no comment." Maybe in private there will be consequences, but I doubt it. There's no possible way the government can officially confirm or deny her statements.

The terrorist might not have even know that they were attacking a nuke site. They might have just thought they were attacking some random army base. If that's the case then telling them that it is in fact a nuke site would be a very bad idea.

I agree! Bad Democrats, Saddam would have had no idea we would have invaded otherwise and the mission would have then been a complete success in taking out the Iraqi military and early defenses.

Or like when the Vice President leaks your main spy contact for Iran and ruins your whole CIA operations in the country and put every contact you gathered over the decades at risk of arrest and execution, so that even 10 years later we still haven't recovered. Oh he was a Republican? Well fark it, lets just have peon take the fall for a short time instead.

Uh? Does someone who sets off a bomb in a crowded commerce center not intend to commit homicide?

I get that it's a pretty stupid thing to try and change a colloquial term (especially splitting such a fine hair as that), but it's not quite as Orwellian as "War is Peace" to refer to the event not by the consequences to the perpetrator (his own suicide) but to the effects on those he targeted (homicide).

// that linked FN piece claims three attacks
// so instead of 6 counts of passing classified info, she only gets 3?

Because "homicide bombing" could apply to any attempt to bomb something and kill people. "Suicide bombing" is distinct, because the perpetrator commits suicide while doing it.

All blackbirds are birds, but not all birds are blackbirds.
