The vaccine doesn't always work. I think they have it up to about 50% reliability now. Also, wild elk carry brucellosis, but nobody ever says a word about the elk, even though they also mix with cattle herds, because we shoot them and there would be a huge uproar if anyone suggested culling the numbers of elk (like the wolves do---OMGWTFBRUCELLOSIS).

It isn't really about the numbers of bison. It's about cattle ranchers and their claims to every blade of grass in the west. If you look closely--there aren't really that many blades.

I dont have any jokes or snark to add to this thread but I live nearby and I can tell you roaming Bison are a huge political issue here. It is just about as hotly debated as the gray wolf issue.

I agree 100% I would hope that in the future if not myself my children or grandchildren would be able to hunt free range Bison. Farmed Bison is awesome I cant imagine how good wild Bison would taste. And the amount of meat you would get? I could feed my entire family for a year!
