TWO swords?

Sounds like he was out for a real-life round of Fallout.

The only thing illegal is the knives over 12 inches. A sword is fine but no 13 inch knives.

Also, 5000 rounds of ammo isn't the boogieman that the media would like you to believe it is.

I read one article where someone in Arkansas was ticketed for being in posession of more beer than allowed by law.

Knives over 12" are usually illegal on the street, unless you've got some legitimate reason to be transporting them (like if you're a chef). Maybe the hatchet was under his seat or something? Handguns in vehicles have to be transported separately from their ammo, even if you have a CCW, so far as I know; but definitely if you don't.

If the cops seem to be overreacting a trifle, the North Hollywood bank robbers had an arsenal something like this when they were stopped a couple months before the robbery--and laws then in force required the cops to give it all back, including the 10,000 rounds of ammo they used in the heist.

Around here guns are not considered concealed if they're in your car and there are no laws whatsoever about blades (other than automatic blades like switchblades being illegal for some odd reason). So basically this guy would have been guilty of nothing other than being intoxicated.

And that's Kansas which way more hickville than here (although I understand they have serious gang issues).

I keep a hatchet in the tool box of my car. It's nestled between the mini air compressor and the half-ton jack. How do you expect to fend off the Zombie Apocalypse without a hatchet?

2011-11-22 09:49:58 PM
One of the officers noticed the butt of a handgun protruding from the waistband of the driver's pants, so he was asked to get out of the vehicle. When officers patted the man down, they found a handful of holstered handguns, Nolte said. They also found the other weapons and ammunition inside.

Probably no license to carry a handgun on a holster, although I don't claim to know Kansas law. Moving a perceived random weapons cache at 2:30 am going the wrong way down the street is probably a bad idea.

/Throw in bored cops tired of dealing with DWI's and random speeders, they will make their own action.

It is a lot for anything except maybe .22LR. I mean hell, 1000 rounds of 9mm is around $200 for target ammo, 1000 rounds of .223 is $250+. Only goes up from there. I can't really see ordering it in blocks larger than 1000 since you don't tend to get a discount.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having a few thousand rounds of ammo, but pretending like it isn't a lot is kinda silly. It is even more of "a lot" in a car. I mean I have 900 rounds of 9mm right now, since I ordered a new case not long ago, but I don't have it in my car. I will take a couple hundred rounds of various calibers when I go to the range but that's all. I'm not taking my whole stock with me, why would I?

I wouldn't consider it alot for .223 or 7.62x39. Guess it would depend on how often you shoot. I normally go through 200-500 a month of each of those calibers, so YMMV.

Its only going to get worse. First the police can take excessive money you might be carrying, amount set to whatever they "feel" is enough to line their pockets.
They can go through your truck and claim any tools as " burglary tools" and take them home, I mean to the police station.
Did I commit a crime with any of this stuff? No! Prove it.
Do I need a permit to carry this stuff? No!
I'm waiting for the police to pull over someone with a large check and demand them to sign it over to them. It will happen.
Some of these are only reasons to provide income to the city or police force and is just modern day versions of highway robbery.

I don't know about Kansas' law regarding CCW, but in Ohio, a CCW permit holder is allowed to have a loaded handgun in the vehicle. They are required to tell LEOs if they do have a loaded handgun and to show them their CCW permit. For those who don't have a CCW, the firearm must be unloaded (including no rounds in the magazine, even if the magazine is not in the gun) and the firearm must be in a location that is accessible only by exiting the vehicle or must be in a locked, closed case or be in plain sight and in a gun rack.
