Mission: Impossible 4 huh? Well, a brother's got to eat. Just read everything Tom gives you before you sign it, Simon.

Does anyone view the Mission Impossible movies as anything other than Cruise stroking his own ego?

They've all been completely forgettable.

Pegg is the only reason I'm at all interested in this movie. I'll watch pretty much anything with him in it.

I'm going to chime in and say I enjoy these films. What I like about them is that each of the movies is done in the style of the director.

The first one was a slow burner by DePalma. The 2nd movie was an over the top Gun-Fu film by John Woo. The third movie was directed by JJ Abrams and played with time like a Lost episode.

I am interested in what Brad Bird is going to do with his first live action film. Besides, in the IMAX theaters they are going to show the 1st 8 minutes of Dark Knight Rises.

Despite his psychosis I actually think Cruise is a good actor and I like a few movies he's been in but yeah, the ego thing is a conclusion that's difficult to not come to. Mission:Impossible, at least in the two tv shows, is about a team of men and women each with separate skillsets who pull off some job against the bad guy. That was true of the first 15 minutes of the first movie until they were all killed off and then it was the Tom Cruise and the guy behind the laptop show. Ocean's 11 is closer to M:I than the M:I movies are.

Are you Jon Stewart's character in Half Baked, by any chance?

Same here. I'm interesting in this movie for 3 reasons:

Bird
Pegg
Jeremy Renner

I made that mistake with Paul. A few good moments but dear God, what a waste of time.

Is Tom Cruise standing on his tip toes or is Simon Pegg shorter than him?

...inquiring minds and whatnot...

Lifts, camera angles. Movie magic. You've seen what they did with Lord of the Rings.

I am seeing this movie just for Simon. I loved Run Fatboy Run and Hot Fuzz. I know this will be a very different film for him, and I would like to encourage him to keep exploring different roles.
Tom Cruise can fark off.

Brad The Incredibles Bird in the director's chair?

Paula Patton?

Tom Wilkinson?

Simon Pegg?

I read SImon Pegg's autobiography a few months ago. He really is just a geek who is living the dream.

Tom Cruise is in it.

The only thing I could think when I saw this picture was, "How big is the box that Tom Cruise is standing on to make him look taller than Simon Pegg?"

/Image is hot, hot, hot!!
//Love Pegg, but Paul was pretty horrendous

The action-packed movie, directed by Brad Bird

That's the only reason I'm seeing this.

I think turning the main character of the series into the villain of the first movie was the giant signal that these were to be Tom Cruise's MIF flicks, not anybody elses.

But I hate to admit it, the stuff I've seen at that Half Life Two tower in Dubai does look pretty interesting.

Wait a second, are you telling me that one of the biggest movie stars in the world has a healthy sense of egotism? I'm shocked, shocked I say.

Paul was good! Lots of sci-fi in jokes. Somehow we were the only ones in the theater to laugh at the "Get away from her, you biatch!" line. I think most people just didn't get that movie.

i personally loved Paul. the Paul character was pretty much live action Roger from American Dad (well, little less ghey maybe, but pretty much), pegg and frost were good. i hated wiig's character, but she is just so terrible anyway so i just kinda overlooked her. well, that and Jason Bateman is just a failure in movies, no personality at all. but I enjoyed the movie and have watched it a few times.

/i know most of the hate is based on Seth Rogan.
//Seth is ok by me. I like his one character.

kibbled: The third movie was directed by JJ Abrams and played with time like a Lost ALIAS episode.

Fixed for accuracy. JJ and Orci/Kurtzman were far more involved with that show than LOST which was mainly Damon Lindelof's show.

That said the Comic Book guy level of snark in this thread is nauseating. Bunch of basement dwelling critics the lot of ya.
