weird, that Alabama bill seems to have had the same effect on Minnesota and Michigan.

2011-11-22 04:52:07 PM
Is that because a bunch of residents moved out of the state?

Some state Republican claimed the Alabama immigration bill cause the decrease in unemployment. Being from Alabama myself, I say he's completely wrong.

It's all because of President Obama's policies nationwide that led to the decrease in Alabama unemployment.

What percent of food crops were ruined since the bill's passage because of insufficient labor to harvest them, and how has it affected food prices?

Such as the bailouts and TARP that arrested and contained the sliding economy before it went into full meltdown, thereby allowing the economy to stabilize and slowly recover.

Oh wait, those were President Bush's policies. Never mind.

So what you are saying is the causes pursued by Obama have little correlation to minor upticks in the national employment?

Funny how the derp America-Haters are spinning this. Never will the lovers of Criminal Illegal Aliens be influenced by facts.

Like....Illegal Aliens are not Immigrants. Stop offending Immigrants (me included)

Most of the south has major economic problems, and Obama's "actions" are not doing anything to help (in all fairness, neither did GW Bush do anything). By making harder for Criminal Illegal Aliens to stay in the state...jobs opened up for US citizens in Alabama

The unemployment numbers will continue to rise as more Alabaman Americans are hired, and Criminal Illegal Aliens leave

Smart states will see what happened in Bama, and start passing their own legislation

Illegal Alien Amnesty is Anti-American Bigotry, and good to see Bama realing the rewards.

Of course, the La Raza/MEChA Hispanic Hate Groups, and their America-Hating friends will continue to attack Bama...reality is that Bama, their citizens, and the American people are winning the war on Illegal Alienism

lerxst2112: While in Georgia, their own controversial immigration bill has caused a labor shortage totaling in a near 400 million dollar loss to the state economy. (new window)

Well, to be fair, it was a 400 million dollar loss to a sector of their economy that operates almost entirely illegally, so I'm not really shedding bountiful tears of sorrow on their behalf. Oh, no, people reliant on exploiting the poor of another country by blatantly illegal means are getting screwed! This is almost as heartbreaking as a story about a rapist getting locked up and causing a hundred-rape loss to the economy. The tragedy!

From your own link: ""Probably short 15-20% of our workers, we raised our wages to help recruit and actually got in competition with fellow farmers who were seeking employees as well," says Gary Paulk, Paulk Vineyards.

Holy, shiat! Actually having to pay somebody to bend over and do hard manual labor? Holy shiat.

So a bunch of people's unemployment benefits ran out, meaning they're not statistically counted anymore?

Except those same illegal hiring companies tend to be the ones we rely on for things like food.

Seasonal hiring is the better explanation.

You realize that Obama has deported more illegal aliens and fined more businesses for hiring them than any other president, right?

Also, I think it will be demonstrated very clearly that this is the result of seasonal hiring. All you have to do is look at the sectors that are hiring. Were they sectors that typically hire illegals, like construction, agriculture (right before Christmas, don't think so), janitorial services, etc., or were they largely retail and service sector jobs (most likely).

I don't have a problem with making things hard for people who are here illegally, but I am not going to start using bogus numbers to justify poorly thought out legislation.

They control for that when reporting unemployment rates. Here's the BLS source.

Scroll down to "Table B. States with statistically significant unemployment rate changes
from September 2011 to October 2011, seasonally adjusted" and you'll find Alabama.

Ok, so initial tallies suggest something else. It still has to be shown that the changes occurred in segments with strong illegal participation. Also, changes were seen in states without such legislation. There has been no analysis that suggests it was because of illegal flight.

It's a spurious conclusion at this point in time.
