bleh. Contrived story lines, a forgettable lead actor with an emaciated looking girlfriend and horrible CGI. The only redeeming thing on the show is Silas Mitchell's long-suffering wolf man character.

I tivoed it on a whim and was pleasantly suprised.

It's not the greatest thing I've ever seen, but it's an enjoyable watch. It's one of the few shows out there that the wife and I can enjoy together. I'm glad to see it was picked up for a full season.

Long live "Community" - that Hearts of Darkness episode was better 99.9% of TV ever produced, and almost tragic in context. I farking hate people so much.

NBC is a long, long way from the height of the "Must See TV" days, subby.

This is all the evidence you need that the American public is retarded (if 8 years of W. wasn't enough). Community, Parks and Rec and 30 Rock are some of the best sitcoms of all time, yet Grimm is the only show most people want to watch on NBC.

Godammitsomuch.

NBC has Britta'ed their whole lineup in favor of humorless wenches and stupid plots. I'm still bitter about them canceling the original Law and Order; the detective and lawyer pairing were among the best they had in a while.

2011-11-22 04:25:42 PM
Wasn't impressed with Grimm. Bad CGI, and the cops seem to do whatever the hell they want with no repercussions.

Not to mention that who needs yet another cop show anyway? Even if it does have monsters in it.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how a show like Chuck lasts 5 seasons and Community lasts 3 - they have absolutely nothing else.

Not that Chuck and Community don't deserve it based on quality, but they get horrible ratings.

It's Buffy as a dude, except it isn't clever, funny, poignant, well-written, acted-well, memorable or interesting.. "One is chosen" type bullshiat, except instead of vampires it is all sorts of Grimm's Tales creatures. Not surprised NBC gave it a full run. They are the network of suck.

Grimm was on the bad side of "MEH". Dark and Gritty? What makes it all dark and gritty? People being killed by supernatural things? Or the fact the show lacks any kind of humor or wittiness?

I gave it 3 episodes. After the Golidlock and 3 Bears episode, which was ok, they crapped the bed with the Bees episode. Boring, contrived. MEH. MEH I say.

I mean how many times did his aunt whisper ominously in his ear before she passed out and didn't die for the first few episodes? Show trying hard is show trying hard.

I've only seen one episode of Community, but it was funny. The Parks and Rec episode that followed (also my only one) was rather boring.

Never seen 30 Rock or Grimm.

Parks and Rec is growing on me... 30 Rock is a riot... but Community? Seriously? Maybe it is just the creepy Chevy Chase factor, but I found little humor in watching that show.

Sadly true. All the tension from last season is gone, there's far less Walter, and even the monster-of-the-week plots have been insipid (although the serial killer one was good).

Meh I'll take the Buffy as a Succubi with spunky sidekick with non-american values plot lines. I like my supernatural crime dramas cheesy and sexy. Lost Girl

If you cross Buffy with SUV, the end product would be Grimm. Nothing new, and nothing challenging. Not a horrible way to kill 50 minutes, but it's no Community.

If you thought the Goldilocks episode was okay then I'm out. I don't mean it as an insult--I hated that episode and the lousy CGI effects just pushed me over the edge. If the one sitting on my DVR is even worse, I'm not even going to bother. Bad enough it's a police procedural that bears no resemblance to any kind of standard police procedure whatsoever (the first episode had me ranting at the tv. How are they searching that guy's house? That cop just assaulted him--they don't have probably cause, let alone a warrant! How are they justifying searching the cottage a 2nd time?? Arrrrgghh!)

The reluctant werewolf was that show's only saving grace but even he got ridiculous in the Goldilocks episode. "Sure, I'll watch your dying aunt who single-handedly slaughtered my entire family. No problem."

GOTdamn this show sucks. As others have mentioned, the 'comic relief' is the only actor capable of delivering his lines with any form of conviction, but I was already dedicated to hating his character as soon as it became painfully obvious that his only purpose is to mine for the yuks and fill in continuity failings (of which there are plenty).

I am convinced that the millions of people watching this show are all residents of Portland, who have been run-over by Grimm's ever-present army of diesel generators and dudes with toolbelts and walkie-talkies, who are watching the show out of some combination of curiosity and implied community obligation. I'm still waiting for the scene filmed in my building, though the bar used in last week's shot (the faux gay bar 'Crush', for anyone who cares) is also on my block, around the corner.

ABC has owned the Fables rights since 2008. They promptly shelved the Fables project and rolled out that "Once Upon a Time" crap, which is pretty much Fables, but not Fables.

Then there's the fact that they are advertising Once Upon a Time on the back covers of Fables (new window).

I liked the part in that episode where in the process of their illegal second search, the house's occupant knocks a cop down and runs out the door, and so the cop's response is to shoot him three times in the back. I haven't seen policing like that since It's a Wonderful Life where Bert the cop starts shooting at George Bailey as he flees through a crowd.

I managed to sit through episode 1 and most of episode 2. Then I got tired of all the "somebody's sneaking along and OHMIGOD WHAT JUST JUMPED OUT??? oh, it's just a cat/his partner/his girlfriend" crap.

As well as that, Ep. 1 has a huge plot hole [SPOILER ALERT: the jogger who gets killed at the beginning is listening to a song on her iPod, which we overhear. When the detectives find her body hours later, the iPod is still playing the same song. And then the detective's partner hears the suspect humming the same song. What, is there only one freaking song on her iPod? To top it off, I went back and rewatched that sequence a couple of times, and I cannot find a moment where the suspect is humming anything. Did that moment get lost in editing, or did I fall asleep?]

The girlfriend is really annoying too. She only seems to exist to (a) make the hero jump by sneaking up on him in the dark and (b) be threatened by the bad guys. There's a metaphorical refrigerator in her future the moment ratings start to slide, mark my words.

And another thing that bugs me is the way detective has a nightmare, then wakes up and sits bolt upright in bed, panting. He's done that twice now. Has anybody in real life ever woken from a nightmare like that? To compound the cliche, the director has to set up the shot from the foot of the bed so that the character ends up staring straight at camera -- just like all the other ten thousand times somebody has woken from a nightmare in a movie or TV show.

brigid_fitch: The reluctant werewolf was that show's only saving grace but even he got ridiculous in the Goldilocks episode. "Sure, I'll watch your dying aunt who single-handedly slaughtered my entire family. No problem."

Yep, that bugged the shiat out of me too. Made no sense for either the detective to ask or the werewolf to agree.

AdolfOliverPanties: It's Buffy as a dude, except it isn't clever, funny, poignant, well-written, acted-well, memorable or interesting.

This too. It feels like Buffy for teenagers not old enough for real emotions.

Yeah, but that's what you get when you use nothing but public domain characters.

And I'm digging Grimm. Partially for all the Portland locations. Looking forward to the episode they shot at Crush (a bar where a friend hosts a monthly comedy show). They also shot some scenes at a friend's apartment.

czetie: I cannot find a moment where the suspect is humming anything. Did that moment get lost in editing, or did I fall asleep?]

I heard him humming it when he took the little girl's hoodie. Though not when the guy's partner heard it. But yeah, the fact that it was still playing the same song when the cops found it was sorta weak. But hey, if that's the biggest plot hole you can find...

AdolfOliverPanties: What's sad is that this show is beating the shiat out of "Fringe."

I stopped watching after the whole dimension jumping thing. I started watching for the 'Kinda like X-files' vibe. And they just went full blown shiat the bed with it in that season, haven't really had any desire to watch it since then.

Probably why I stopped watching X-files as well.

Is it really that difficult to write a procedural 'supernatural' story without some type of over-arching overly complicated messiah complex involved? Give me a good mystery style show once a week where 'supernatural stuff happened in a mostly normal world', and the detectives have to figure it out. CSI with farking werewolves. I don't want Peter wolf's character to also have to be the one true chosen queso vendor or something.

Also, whatever happened to Heros (I know, different network, but related to my rant) and that 'superhero family' show thing (I can't remember the name of that one, but suspect it lasted a few episodes and then was killed in its sleep).

You should watch Supernatural, if you aren't already. There's an overall story arch to each season, but most episodes follow that outline to a T.

Grimm has had a few moments. Breaking into the house at night where the walls were covered with bees and there were dead bees all over the floor and you just had to keep walking on them, hearing the buzzing, hearing them squish underfoot... That scene felt like a Call of Cthulu scenario. Creepy stuff.

But, yeah, all the characters save for the buddy-wolf are phoned in. Mostly, I'm sticking with it because I like some of the writers and I miss Portland.

ThisNameSux: Fringe has been a huge letdown this season along with The Walking Dead.

I told my wife during the first episode of TWD this season that if the showrunners started doing stupid shiat with the kids, it meant the B-team of writers was in place and the season was going to suck.

I was right. We're 8 (7?) episodes in, and what are they doing instead of fighting zombies? Looking for a missing kid, or taking care of another one that got shot. If not for the whole side trip to get medical supplies there wouldn't be any zombie tension in this season at all.

Can we all admit Community sucks now? Are you guys just putting me on?
Community wants to be a smart show, thinks its a smart show, and tries too hard.

Parks and Rec is in danger of falling into this same hubris trap. Don't try too hard. See season 2 for glorious sitcom supremacy.
