Every conservative/Republican I've seen on this and the "lazy" thing just says, "Meh, that's politics."

I guess that's a hint at what to expect.

At the very least, this will be another entertaining election season.

I guess it's technically a misquote. But it seems so much worse. It's not even clever editing of something he himself said.

Boo, Mr. Romney. Boo.

Mormons lie? Politicians lie? MORMON POLITICIANS LIE?! Say it's not so!

So I guess Mormons don't have to follow that Bible thing about not bearing false witness?

Interesting.

But I don't want to be entertained. I have Skyrim, Minecraft, and HBO at home. I've got enough entertainment. I want a goddamn adult to be elected so they can govern my country.

I've lived around the country, with people of every color, creed, and stripe...and I've never seen such scumbaggily dishonest people as the Mormons. If they cheat a non-Mormon, that's cool because they're not "one of us", and when they cheat each other it's called "business ethics". Let alone the fact that they're incredibly bigoted.

of all the people who could use out of context clips, you'd think Romney would have the most to lose by starting that war.

2011-11-22 05:07:30 PM
Romney should be campaigning against the GOP contenders who keep surging against him before he banks on taking on Obama.

Subby, like a real Republican, that leaves your back door wide open.

Why is that? It's not like you can't find in-context quotes of Romney taking every possible position on every possible issue.

Romney doesn't do well when he's taken in context.

The people this ad is directed at do not care at all. In fact, they probably feel the ad is appropriate and they agree with the message.

And, if you point out the ad as wrong or deceitful, they will respond with saying democrats do the same thing or something about how Obama is bad for America.

"We used that quote intentionally to show that President Obama is doing exactly what he criticized McCain of doing four years ago. Obama doesn't want to talk about the economy because of his failed record."

How exactly is Obama demonstrating that he doesn't want to talk about the economy?
Is that something that can be demonstrated, or is it a bald assertion?

2011-11-22 05:21:16 PM
Hey, it came out of Obamas mouth therefore he said it! Its probably better than, "well he didn't say that but he thought it"...

Can someone find me an example of Obama using this type of blatant lying in his campaign? It seems to me the Democrats generally don't have to misquote Republicans to make them sound bad, but Republicans seem to only be able to campaign on lies and straw men.

All Romney really has to do is shut up, wait and watch as all the other candidates flame out. But I guess he just couldn't keep from sticking his foot into his mouth. I guess the other candidates made it look like so much fun.

Random fact: the South Carolina Republicans will be holding a vote on if corporations are people during their Presidential Primary. So that has the potential to embarrass Romney a bit too

It only works if your opponent is incredibly stupid and you yourself have never ever EVER said anything lame or wrong on the record.

So Obama is pretty safe.

Not so random fact. This is the first I've heard of that. And I live in SC.

Next thing you know, someone's going to robocall primary voters to let them in on the fact that Obama has not one, but two black kids.

Well it is not playing well in the internet age by people talking about politics on the internet, but does that have any real impact on the majority of voters (unless facebook becomes a hotbed of political activism).

It is an unfortunate reality of today's politics that most people expect to be misled (if not outright lied to) in political advertising. But this leapfrogs dishonesty and lands smack dab in the middle of genuine fraud. Shame on you, Mr. Romney.

That having said, I suspect that Mitt will discover that running this ad will have its consequences. The electorate may not be rocket scientists, but they are not quite as dumb as this particular strategy requires them to be.
