He doesn't have a chance in any event; but yes, this won't go down well with the armchair warriors of the GOP.

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Reagan throne!

He makes a great deal of sense. The apostate doesn't have a chance.

He writes long coherent articles. Definitely heresy.

sweetmelissa31: He writes long coherent articles. Definitely heresy.

Sadly, if you can string together words in a coherent fashion that doesn't say "Liberal's fault" and "Socialism" you get called a RINO. By folks who wouldn't know good Republicanism if it bit them on their well padded tochis...

On NPR they were having a discussion on who's next after Geinrich tumbles. The "most principled" candidate was determined to be Bauchmann. Where's the love for Huntsman? I was happy he got 2 minutes on SNL, but I think it says more for the GOP dislike of Mormonism rather than anything else.

2011-11-22 02:39:14 PM
Huntsman is polling at 3% or something.

Who is in the lead? The guy who wants to eliminate child labor laws and who knows what Libya is, or the guy who wants to eliminate child labor laws and doesn't know what Libya is?

Yes.

"The least insane Republican" is perhaps the definitive backhanded compliment.

With so many people on T'giving holiday already, you may well avoid castigation for your heresy by the herbal teahadist here on Fark who believe the only appropriate political position is a bat-shiat insane liberal position.

Wow, he'll be booted out so hard that he'll be almost as obscure as Gary Johnson.

2011-11-22 05:33:33 PM
I hope the juxtaposition of Huntsman with the rest of those clowns can help some people to see what a bunch of god damn fruitloops his competition is.

2011-11-22 05:33:57 PM
You'd think Huntsman and Gary Johnson would just flip the bird to the GOP and run as independents.

Why would you want to associate yourself with such backward-thinking people?

2011-11-22 05:34:02 PM
Tangentially, I had a conversation with a Republican recently who refused to understand that the US is a "Pacific nation." I even showed him a map and he said that didn't mean anything.

Wait till republican voters find out Jon Huntsman used to work for the Obama administration.

2011-11-22 05:35:44 PM
A pity. The only man that could beat Obama is the one man the GOP will never nominate.

2011-11-22 05:38:13 PM
I feel so bad for this guy. He's like a nice preacher man with practical ideas that doesn't realize his entire congregation has gone full bore batshiat insane.

2011-11-22 05:39:57 PM
The fact that most people wouldn't even consider this guy's measured, reasonable positions just tells you how far up the shiatter this country really is.

The former Ambassador to China thinks we need to focus more on terrorism than wars with nations. Hmmm...Clearly he's a Chinese Manchurian Candidate.

Do we really need more proof America?

This guy constantly says things I agree with. It is sad he has not chance in hell of actually running for president.

More special forces
More carrier battle groups
1/2 total military personnel

Is pretty much what I have been preaching to my friends for years. Our military might is about air superiority. We do not have the willpower (or lack of morals) to do what is required as an occupying force so we need to get out of that business.

MrEricSir: The fact that most people wouldn't even consider this guy's measured, reasonable positions just tells you how far up the shiatter this country really is.

It's even more telling that people consider Huntsman measured and reasonable.

FTA: Our Department of Defense civilian work force can also be cut by 5% to 7% of its current size.

Someone needs to brush up on their maths - if its cut by 5% it will be 95% of its current size, not 7%. Idiot.

Stating the obvious shouldn't be such a heroic act.

What could possibly go wrong?

normally i'm a semi-right leaning guy. generally. sort of.

but damn, the only republican i could see voting for in the last few years and in the next few, is probably going to wind up a pariah and run out of the party.

we should start an online petition calling for obama to ditch biden and ask hunstman to be his running mate.

never know, might work.

Poor Huntsman. If he got the nom, he might actually have a shot. He's moderate enough that we liberals wouldn't be cringing and desperately applying for jobs in Norway and Sweden, and he's conservative enough that moderates would be quite happy with him.

But he ain't crazy, and it's the crazies that run the GOP primaries.

I'm sure it would still suck. He's a Republican and would still have to kowtow to those wonderful Republicany things we all know and love, like cutting social programs.

The most electable Republican will never win the primary anymore. Good job FoxNews - you created your own problem.

There should be an "I'll" somewhere in there.

True, but the media landscape has really made things rougher for moderates to exist anywhere.

YET...Obama isn't the most liberal guy around in my opinion...

Yes Obama's not doing enough/doing too much!

Whatever shall we do...

Huntsman greatest problem is a lack of truthiness. He isn't providing emotional satisfaction to his audience. Seems like a reasonable candidate though.

2011-11-22 06:16:01 PM
What I love is that Huntsman will stay in as long as possible just to present voters with a sane, reasonable, and intelligent alternative to the derptastic GOP we've come to despise. You never know, a strong surprise showing in N.H. could change everything...GO, Jon GO!

/Huntsman 2012

2011-11-22 06:25:05 PM
I think Huntsman is running for 2016 at this point. If we go by the old "whoever came in second" rule for Republicans, I think he's just staying in this thing long enough for everyone else (excluding Romney) to implode, thus gaining second place by default. Romney wont pick him as VP, either, since they can't double up the Mormon.

2011-11-22 06:27:18 PM
These actually sound like very good ideas, but it will never work because that would cost us too many jobs in well connected MIC companies.

Due to the presence of nukes in the Us, we don't have to worry about going tank to tank with a powerful nation state. It's just not going to happen anymore.

A fast response special forces based army is what we need now. And again, hes right that our gaze needs to turn from Europe to the Pacific, or rather from Europe to North africa, and southeast asia.

But mostly we need to get out of the business of nation building. It's expensive, and costly in terms of treasure and lives.

Dude... It's a typo, not a math mistake. Should read "cut by five to seven percent"

My point exactly.

I don't think there's anything there that Obama would disagree with. Well, except the Libya thing. I think some cruise missiles were worth preventing a genocide AND the death of one of the most evil and unstable leaders in the middle-east.

2011-11-22 06:45:14 PM
Why couldn't this guy have been President instead of Bush?

2011-11-22 06:48:09 PM
I dunno about president, but Obama should consider kicking one of his tax-avoiders and making this guy a cabinet member. Maybe defense or state. The guy has a good head on his shoulders and has actually had a real job the last few years.

Hell, drop Biden and invite him to be VP, we haven't seen a bipartisan ticket in quite a while. Biden won't mind, he's a cool dude.
