Pittsburgh was 11-6-3 without Crosby's electrifying presence and the Penguins' record ties them for the best overall mark in the NHL so far this season

except for san jose, chicago, and minnesota. but other than that, they're totally tied for the best record in the nhl

It's great to see him back and great to see him doing well, but holy shiat do we suck.

I was half expecting to see another debilitating head injury last night. We would have definitely seen the irony tag (and don't try and tell me that wouldn't have been incredibly ironic!)

Pittsburgh, Chicago and Minnesota all have 27 points, San Jose only has 25. Chicago and Pittsburgh have identical 12-6-3 records and Minnesota would technically be leading with a 12-5-3.

But other than that, what standings are you looking at?

Meanwhile, Ovechkin is in a 5 game streak with no goals.

PENGUINS: F**K YEAH!

This Islander team is already unwatchable, they play with no freaking heart. It's a team made up of invisible youths, washed up vets mailing it in to collect one last paycheck, and John Tavares.

/Glad for Crosby, though

2011-11-22 12:06:42 PM
As a Penguins fan, could we please stop having Crosby articles greenlit? Everyone complains that the media is pushing Crosby on us - nice to see Fark is doing its part. Enough already...there's already a current thread from yesterday.

2011-11-22 12:06:49 PM
TFA was reasonably accurate. Playing at home first few games a good idea (not staying in hotel etc), Islanders relatively weak and (as Melrose pointed out) not very physical. Crosby did take one bump on that power play and seemed OK.

personally had 3 concussions (that I remember)

age 10rope swing broke
age 17 kneed in head playing no equipment football
age 20 rocket schrapnel head wounds in Vietnam

2011-11-22 12:16:01 PM
As I mentioned in the other thread...Of course Cindy is going to rip it up. He's got fresh legs. Everyone else has had to deal getting banged up since the season opener back in October and the preseason in September.

/Still fun seeing him back on the ice.
//I still don't like him.
///Even more, I still don't like Pittsburgh.

2011-11-22 12:19:13 PM
Why does devil's advocate usually sound like a jealous hater? It's true coming back from a year injury is a great feat, but so is scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in your first game back! Crosby's a masterful player, and i'm saying that as a Blackhawks fan.

Glad to see him back in the league, though it was nice hearing about other players for a bit.

On a side note, I hope every team that plays the Flyers for the rest of this season sets up 1-3-1 against them.

2011-11-22 12:23:13 PM
Well duh... you always make sure the guy returning from injury's first opponent is the retarded punching bag.

2011-11-22 12:35:42 PM
The author completely fails to support his premise. The best two arguements in his entire article were 1) the islanders suck 2) Crosby was bound to be rusty.

How does those two flimsy points detract from the potential suck if crosby did fark all and was a ghost on the ice last night.

It sure does sound like the author is all butt hurt he didnt prepare his Crosby is amazing article ahead of time.

The fact is the kid did awesome in a situation that most people expected something to happen. And he STILL did more than expected. Could he have failed hard last night? Absolutely.

Terrible "journalist" is terrible.

2011-11-22 12:39:35 PM
This article sucks.

Sure, at home vs the Islanders is a pretty ideal matchup. But watching Crosby zip around and kick ass was GREAT. And he very easily could have had a worse game than 2 goals and 2 assists (and another 2 near assists where he set up shots off the post and crossbar.)

Also, FTA:

Pittsburgh's next four outings against the St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers will provide a better barometer in which to measure Crosby.

That's three middle-bad teams and one middle-good team, roughly. It's not like those four teams are good at the moment.

Call me when he has a Gordie Howe hat trick.

You're right about the assessment in general, but St. Louis hasn't lost (in regulation) since they hired Hitchcock; Ottawa just took 7 points out of TOR, CGY, EDM, and VAN (Ok, so that's not really amazing), and they'll be on 4 days' rest; Montreal, well, you never know what team you're getting - they've been alternating Wins, Losses, and OT/SO games for 3 weeks.

I guess it's more of a 'ramp up the quality of competition; before playing the Bruins in 2 weeks, who by then may've won 34 games in a row.

That wouldn't have been incredibly ironic. That wouldn't have been slightly ironic. That would have been pretty much the exact opposite of ironic.

Irony involves something unexpected happening. Players returning from concussions are more prone to future concussions.

Boo.

I was all excited to see my beloved Bs battle the Habs last night. I set up in front of the television right before game time, switched the channel over to VS., and opened my Longhammer IPA. Lo and behold, what appeared before me was not the advertised and expected sports match I had been looking forward to, but a substitute game. It was the Penguins. The Penguins.

I'm not a "Crosby Hater", but goddamn, am I sick of hearing about this guy.

Lots of talent, no denying that, but Jesus Christ, give it a rest.

There was a collective sports media orgasm last night when he got his first goal... Hell, even the Bruins' talking heads couldn't help themselves.

Hearing Gord Klusak gush that he's an, "Exciting, good looking kid" was just a bit too much for me last night. You used to be cool, Gordo...

...and the Bruins put up six on the Islanders while the Pens only managed five. So there!

Really? The best player in a sport returns after missing almost a year and has a huge night, and you think everyone noticing is an overreaction?

Say Pujols missed 140 games and returned with a 3 homer game. Or Manning starts opening day next year and throws 5 tds. Or Kobe misses almost a whole season (guess he will with the lockout) and puts up 50.

Those aren't stories worth gushing over?

2011-11-22 02:51:53 PM
I'm glad he's back as he's a talented player that can only bring more publicity to NHL but at the same time I'm weary of how games will be refed when he's playing. Will he be allowed to be hit cleanly like every other big start out there (I know big stars get better treatement anyway) or will the refs treat him as if he's made of glass?

Gush like a bunch of school girls talking about Justin Beiber? Pass...

Fantastic, astounding goal-getter...obviously terrific.

2011-11-22 03:01:24 PM
Glad to see him back, even if it was against the third-string goalie of the Islanders. I just hope that the sports media calms down a little bit. I like Crosby a lot, but I do like other players as well and I'd like them to get some positive media as well.

Giroux and Vanek are having amazing seasons and nobody talks about them at all.

Ah, c'mon! Gordo never used to be cool! I wish these guys would all stop fighting, someone could get hurt out there! (link to best Bruins goalie fight ever)

Anyhow, tomorrow night's BOS/BUF tilt should be epic. I think Boston is nuts not call up MacDermind, give him a shot and have some extra firepower on the ice as a precaution. They should have never even signed that lazyass Pouliot and Caron has been invisible.

6 points in last 6 games is not enough? He has 18 points so far this season and one could make the argument that it's good production out of your second line centre. You got to remember that he's no longer the #1 centre on the team like he was for the Flyers and unless Kopitar gets injured I doubt he'll be on the 1st line with the Kings.

Watched the game and I could swear that announcer Bob Errey actually jizzed in his pants when Sid scored the first goal. The gutteral moan he let out rivalled anything a porn actor does during the money shot. Speaking of which, Sidney still sucks cock and the other Pens are still afraid to shower with him.
