I'm sure glad there weren't "Terrorists" when I was 14. The most I got for blowing up mail boxes (actually doing it not just planning to) was grounded for life. Now you get the chair, Damn!

Looks like another case of entrapment. The guy who was the mole ended up buying him all the stuff necessary and giving him access to his apartment to "make the bombs".

Just some guy bucking for a promotion by busting some scary terrorist who ends up being mostly clueless.

It'll go just about as far as that month-old "plot" with the forgetful Iranian businessman hiring a Mexican cartel drug dealer to assassinate a Saudi ambassador. Notice how that disappeared but quick when everyone simultaneuously stood up and said "WTF? Really?".

/just like this guy's expression on TV when he was being read the charges against him in the docket ("WTF? Really?")

If there's a terrorist lose in your neighborhood, it seems like the safest thing is to be the neighbor. They never kill the neighbor. The neighbor always survives to do the interview afterwards. Right? "Oh, he was kind of quiet." I love these neighbors.

(paraphrased from Seinfeld)

Nobody believes there was a bomb plot. Just resign, Bloomberg.

Hey there. That stopped being relevant in 2008.

His mom seemed normal. Maybe it was his square roots that made him radical.

To keep us motivated. And it could be any identifiable threat, A-rab muslins are just the path of least resistance.

I think it's hilarious that, for once, the FBI is skeptical and is saying "This guy couldn't do this without the help of local police", when the FBI has been enabling wanna-be terrorists for years now.

You guys DO REMEMBER that USA/Canada became a POLICE STATE last week? but this topic sure is interesting too.

From a CNN article: (new window)

"The suspect allegedly learned how to make a pipe bomb after reading an article entitled "How to make a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom""

It not that islam is behind 90% of terrorist attacks or anything, must be the brown skin.

To make it even better, they should set up a patsy, one of those Asian that end in ...ese, then arrest him for terrorism to avoid racial profiling.

This way the lemmings of the U.S. will thinks any body can be a terrorist.

Good. Because Islam isn't behind anything. It's a religion, not a Bond villain. Muslim-ideologue terrorists don't make up anywhere near 90% of terror attacks.

But by all means continue to identify American ethnic minorities as the perpetrators of the majority of violence!

You should try and stay consistent.

As for what percent of terrorists are motivated by muslim ideology 90% is not far off.

So if its a religion like you said then how can i "continue to identify American ethnic minorities as the perpetrators of the majority of violence". Yes, it is islam. Educate yourself about islam and recent islamic inspired murders arround the world. You're right, it more than 90%

My dad used to have a hobby of making and detonating bombs as a kid in the 50s in suburban Maryland. He's got lots of stories about that.

New York police spokesman Paul Browne said Pimentel had converted to Islam in 2004 or 2005 while living in Schenectady, N.Y. "I'm not clear what drew him to Islam," Browne said.

Maybe it's because other than becoming a terrorist, there's nothing fun to do in Schenectady.

Sounds like another "let's provide some dope with a plan and all the material, then arrest him for having a plan and material" situation.

He was data-mined, and because of all his posts on forums like fark pointing out that true Americans fight tyranny with arms and saying things like going after the one percent, he fit the bill for a suspect.

But when they found out he was a member of Islam, that was the juice they needed to bust in his home and find nothing(?).
I missed the part of the story where they found his cache of weapons, or any hint of evidence for that matter.

/Don't be joining Islam. Very bad.

Gotta love the police spokesman's comment though "I'm not clear what drew him to Islam"
