taurusowner: Power source?

The lenses are basically just the display. The computer part's on your belt. The computer powers the display through the datalink - they say "wifi" but I'd bet more on some sort of NFC - you can't get enough power from an e-field link to power LEDs.

They say 'wi-fi' because that's all that people will understand. They don't want people knowing that they are going to be getting lightning bolts shot into their eyes from their belts.

Maybe some kind of electrolytic thing with your tears?

I'd rather have it on my glasses, since I don't do contacts.

And I've wanted sunglasses with a built in HUD since I was 13.

Then too, you couldn't get enough of an antenna for e-field comms on a contact, either. You can cheat the antenna size issue on an h-field NFC link in a way you can't with e-field. Plus wi-fi protocol would be insanely too complex for this sort of thing, and you don't want or need the range from computer to lens. Using an NFC link would innately limit the range. It'd still be too big, but not like with e-field.

Great, so when I walk through a mall every product display can send a commercial straight into my eye underneath my eyelid......fantastic.

/Hardwired did it first.

THIS. I've wanted one in my car ever since I could drive. It could show directions, business ratings (how many times have you been on a road trip and wondered, "Which one of these motels is the least sketchy?"), car information, and so on. Adding it to glasses would enable a "This is your car" tag for crowded parking lots, as well as all the news and texts and stuff.

And how hackable is that? I dont see how there would be enough room on a lense for anything like the hardware you would need to filter out signals from other sources than your phone.

You dont have a smartphone?

HUDs in cars are cool, but you have to keep the information level very low or you get sued. Thats why Garmin GPS in your hand is awesome, but even Mercedes Benz cant put a decent easy to use GPS in a car. Lawyers

You'd have to keep it really simple or you'll have a big black square in your field of vision...

At any rate, you'd likely have to wear the interrogator as a torq around your neck or the rim of a baseball cap to get close enough to link and power the thing, in which case the hacking thing won't be an issue.

Auto makers should've sued for forcing you to look down at your gauges when better technology has existed for half a century now.
At any rate the real problem is that these companies build cars, not consumer electronics. They don't seem to have the ability for bringing these operations in-house.
Apple , sony, or someone should lend lease the skilled teams needed to digitalize cars. It's long overdue.

That's utterly terrifying and I can only hope it exists as parody and a warning.

Eventually these will be hacked to display something that will blind a person - or worse - or just a bunch of spam blocking your vision.

You can always take a contact lense out.

"The lenses, which would be inserted and removed like normal contacts, could also be handy if you are indeed enjoying the great outdoors, allowing you to zoom in on distant views."

The potential for this is...amazing.
