Perhaps instead of making the ashes look good, they should mark them some way. Like "In loving memory of my father, Willy" or whatever.

I have my cat in a cedar box, carefully hidden under some old Christmas cards so the thieves will never find her.

Just to clarify: my cat is dead and cremated. Not alive and hiding.

On the plus side, it shouldn't be too hard to find replacement ashes

I'm not sure which is creepier. Hiding a live cat in a box or getting your cat cremated and storing the ashes.

They'll have a years free rent and replacement stuff by this time next week, and more valuable than what they had before, that's how it works when they publish these sob stories in Canada.

I would think the worst thing that could happen would be the fact that your parents died in the fire.

Oh, they were already dead?

Never mind.

Even Stormtroopers leave the bodies behind, Halifax thieves are worse than Imperial Stormtroopers.

You forgot to mention that their new home and new stuff will be taken from middle-class people who worked hard for it.

Why do you consider it creepy to keep a beloved pet's ashes?? It's no creepier than keeping your parent's ashes...

Who the Fark owns a home and has no insurance? Or did I not read correctly and they were renting? If that is the case who the Fark rents and doesn't have renters insurance?

For all of you who are renting. Renters insurance for an apartment is something like a $100 a YEAR. Do yourself a favor and get some. Don't fool yourself into thinking your landlord is responsible for your things even if it is their fault there was a fire. They aren't.

...So, does this count as theft or kidnapping?...
