We need to, as a nation, remember what lessons we learned from every other nutjob that thought "God" was talking to them taught us.
They are insane.
They do not have the right to vote.
Or lobby.
They have the right to seek help.
If they cannot afford the right to seek help, help will be appointed to them by the courts.
We cannot allow the insane to guide our laws.

The model for disobedience is being played out in the private prisons.

All non-christians will be imprisoned and they can work for pennies on the dollar.

I'd be more worried if any of the particular nutjobs quoted actually had a shot at the presidency. Gingrich is the not-Romney of the moment but he'll fade, too, just like the rest of them did. Maybe it's Santorum's chance next.

I love being lectured on Judeo Christian morality by

A thrice married adulterer,

A woman married to a gay man

A man who supported the Iraq invasion based on his interpretation of 'Lord of the Rings'.

Haha, what?

I somehow missed that. Care to share?

...and this is pretty much why I don't support most of these cats. It's nice that they sum it up so well, and so often.

Fiscal Conservatism isn't code for tax cuts, and Republicanism isn't a code word for Christianity. It doesn't jibe well with the Constitution, and perhaps if folks were more concerned about fulfilling that document, as opposed to worrying about the one that they seem to misquote so often on matters of charity, role of government, and wealth, I might be looking to put one of them in office.

The one out of the pack that states that they'll uphold the Constitution and look out for our future, I'll back them in a heartbeat. So far? The folks that were quoted? They are about as likely to get my Primary vote as Hillary Clinton--and for the record, I really despise that gal...

wingedkat: I somehow missed that. Care to share?

In an interview with the editorial board of the Bucks County Courier Times, embattled Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has equated the war in Iraq with J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." According to the paper, Santorum said that the United States has avoided terrorist attacks at home over the past five years because the "Eye of Mordor" has been focused on Iraq instead.

"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said. "It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."

The very fact that they want to do away with the courts is a blatant admission that what they want to do is incredibly unconstitutional.

Why not come out and say "If elected President, I will wipe my ass with the Constitution."

They'd still get a ton of votes.

2011-11-21 08:11:55 PM
Osomatic: Maybe it's Santorum's chance next.

I was thinking the same thing, he's one of the few who hasn't been rising to the top of the polls yet... Romney, Cain, Bachmann, Gingrich, Paul (3rd place, at one point), and Perry all have, so now it's Huntsman and Santorum?

Comparatively speaking. Religious Fascism is a fairly Hard Right sort of position, so it's not hard to see how folks might turn that around in their heads...

Ever notice how they always, ALWAYS completely ignore all of Jesus' messages involved wealth and the wealthy, particularly the Gospel of Matthew?

It's because they place more importance on money than obeying the words of the Messiah.

And to top it off, they worship Reagan, who would never pass the modern GOP/teabagger purity test. Bachmann has a better chance than Reagan would.

President Obama was 100% dead-on when he said all he has to do is play footage of what these lunatics are saying over and over. That stuff is terrifying. I was expecting some sort of conspiracy-reading article, not just a list of quotes that speak for themselves.

I know people say "I'd move to Canada/England/wherever if so-and-so is elected" a lot, but I honestly think if Perry, Santorum, Cain, or Bachmann were somehow elected... I'd have to give it serious consideration. I think I'd want out before they were able to pull any of this crazy shiat off.

And would you trust that woman to make a cup of tea, let alone lead the Executive Branch?

At this point, I'm beginning to feel that the Religious Right's leadership has fully realized that they can't win, so they're going to push as goofy a damn platform so that when it loses, that they can retreat into a Level Five Persecution Field, and the stick their fingers in their ears for another four years pretending that it's the country that's out of touch...

If their 'worst' is flatly rejected by the electorate, wouldn't that send a message to the GOP leadership that this isn't working? I hope they split their ticket and go all out with the crazy. A crushing defeat would send the fringe party to the background and bring the moderates forward.

I still think, somehow, that the Republican party will become the next Progessive party.

IF the Crazy Train splits off, there's a chance. If we can slice off the corporate shills, there's a chance to getting back to good Republicanism. Careful in thought, careful of process, and long on Constitutional inspiration. Not the radicals that have seized the party, and who lay claim to the title of Conservative, while undermining everything that the name implies with radicalized notions of the role of government, and looking to dismantle the very state that they claim to love.

No shiat. The fiscal conservatives sold out to the religious nuts in order to gain votes and power. Now the religious nuts are taking over the party and want to implement a Christian theocracy. You're just now noticing?

The great part is they are the faction who thinks of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a mortal enemy, when in reality they are virtually looking in the mirror when they look at the theocratic leaders of Iran. Replace "Islamic" with "Christian", and Iran has a type of government they would very much enjoy establishing in the United States.

Well, I am guessing neither or the Mormon's were at this "debate" though, especially Huntsman.

If its the entire span of non-Romney frontrunners for the Republican nomination (check) and if they are being quoted fairly and accurately in context (check) then its true no matter who is reporting it, whether its TPM or WND.

"When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movements become headlong - faster and faster and faster. They put aside all thoughts of obstacles and forget the precipice does not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it's to late."
