Doesn't matter; I've seen it happen. I have the shame to say I've had a DUI, but I was polite with the officers and owned up to everything I did. I still ended up more than three grand in the hole, and that was for a first offense. But then at the treatment program my lawyer suggested I attend to gain sympathy with the court there was a girl, pretty little thing like the one in the article, in the program for her third farking offense. At one point we went around the room describing just the financial impact on ourselves of what we had done. Most of the figures were 2-3 grand. Then we got to her. $1400 total, for her third offense, and she thought that was excessive. There is no farking justice in this country.

Jesus. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, though.

The great majority of my friends have DUIs. Of those that are male, their final total seems close to yours. Of the women I know that have DUIs... I guess I've never asked them how much they were out. I'm now curious.

Meh, that's nothing. My ex scored a .352 (and she's a big gal, so I shudder to think how much she must have consumed) plus THC when she rolled her car sideways into a house, setting both ablaze.

It was her second, but there had been a 15-year or so gap in the interim. I negotiated a plea deal in which her fine, court costs, and fire department restitution totalled about $2,000, and she had 40 hours of community service. The state, however, took her licence too.

White dude here, never had a dui, but had a suspension due to unpaid speeding tickets. 6month suspension $1500 fine/reinstatement fee. And unlike a few friends of mine with dui's, I was not allowed work driving privledges. Ohio. Cops may treat you minorities pretty harsh on occasion, but the judge doesn't care about any color but GREEN!

That's the stupidest prank I've ever seen. Double the comedy for calling someone a failure at life when
she's 24 and living off of her mom's $100 budget. Camera operating's not bad, however. And at least it
wasn't one of those 'fire in the hole' things.

Coning though.. that's just.. I can't believe that appears to be some sort of trend.

You may end up being right, but AZ really likes to wring as much revenue out of DUIs as humanly possible.

True.

Not-so-cool story, bro:

My brother-in-law does HVAC in Arizona (a nice profession if you're in Arizona). One very hot afternoon this past summer, his work van broke down. He called his wife to pick him up; she was at work and needed some time to finish things up some things before she could pick him up.

In the meantime, brother-in-law sees a bar across the way and decides to WALK to the bar to have a cold beer (did I mention it was summertime in Arizona?). He leaves his van on the side of the road until his wife shows up and WALKS to the bar.

She shows up, he finishes his beer, and they walk back over to the van so he can get his tools, etc., out of it before the tow truck arrives.

Some bystander sees him getting the tools out of the van and assumes that the guy taking the tools---my brother-in-law---is some thief and calls the cops to report the "theft."

So the cop shows up and smells alcohol on my brother-in-law's breath AND CITES HIM FOR D.U.I. EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE AFTER DRINKING!

The cop refused to believe that my brother-in-law hadn't been drinking and driving, and brother-in-law couldn't prove otherwise.

Yeah, so court costs, one of those breathe-into-the-pipe-before-you-can-turn-over-your-ignition devices (yes, he had to pay for it himself), points on his driver's record, etc. Gigantic PITA, and a very expensive one at that.

\Moral of the story:
\\You don't need a college diploma to make a good living.
\\\HVAC provides a good, steady paycheck, especially in Arizona.

Keep in mind those people in Phoenix are acclimated to higher temps too. So they may make more use of central heat than you'd think. I see them putting on heavy coats when it drops below 65 outside.

There's also the fact that a large chunk of the state is a lot higher and colder than the deserts in which Phoenix and Tucson are located.

Prescott is not Phoenix. It's nowhere near as hot in the summer in Prescott as it is in Phoenix. Prescott also gets some snow in the winter as they are over 5,000 feet elevation and in the mountains.

It gets cold in the desert too. I don't know of anyone who lives in a cold place that only turns on the heat if it is "below freezing". Every day has massive temperature swings, 30-40 degrees sometimes more. Means that at night, heat is a real nice thing to have. Not necessary to live, but even people form colder climates would turn the heat on.

Well something else about the heat in desert is since you don't need a hardcore heating system, many people have their A/C do it as well. An A/C is more properly called a heat pump. It moves heat from one place to another. Normally form in the house to outside. However reverse the system and it will heat the house quite nicely (and rather efficiently). Even if not, it is still often the same unit. The unit will feature an A/C, and a gas heater in the same package.

What people generally consider a high BAC is really pretty low. To be over the limit a girl that size would only have to have 2 or 3 "standard" drinks (which in real life is one drink if you're not drinking beer). A single martini can put a slim person over 0.08.

While drinking and driving disgusts me --my father, grandmother, and stepmother spent my wedding day in the ICU after being hit by a drunk on the way to the rehearsal, and my grandmother might only have a few weeks left now-- 0.08 isn't drunk. 0.15 isn't even drunk. If you can't drive at 0.15 you shouldn't have been issued a license in the first place.

BTW the guy who hit the wedding party was blood tested at .911, which in retrospect seems appropriate. He escaped custody in 2009, which does not.

Cool story bro

Not everybody gets that way. I've lived cold places and currently live not far from the gulf coast, but I don't get cold or hot easily.

Oddest thing I ever saw was in Botswana. People wearing jackets and zipped up track suits when it was about 75-80 and sunny. Takes all kinds.

It has so much to do with the individual person. That is WHY we have laws based on BAC instead of drunkenness. College acquaintance from decades ago got arrested and tested about .450 at the hospital (pre breathalyzers being common), and that was likely an hour after they arrested him...and he was lucid, talking to them, and not staggering around like a wino. He died from cirrhosis, but he never ran into a tree or a human or even another car. He was pulled over for having an incorrect license plate tag, not for driving poorly.

Then there are people that can't even drive sober and talk on a cell phone or two way radio at the same time without running into something/somebody...some can't even change their iPod settings without causing a wreck.

The latter are the ones that created the mandatory and not really scientifically defensible "BAC Standards".

Lots of people drive way worse sober than practiced drinkers drive drunk. They got tired of arguing if a person who had done no harm was "legally drunk" in courts, so they created a metric.

Some people WON the Mille Miglia and Le Mans in states that would be considered "drunk driving" because of the .08 rule.

But, courts like the simplicity of numbers or mandatory revocation rather than determining how impaired a person was.

Yes..."Impaired is a subjective judgment". I realize that. That's why they created a metric.

Some .30 chicks would have killed themselves or others, yet other .30 chicks do it 7 nights a week without incident.

There's almost zero science, besides vague ideas, as far as what BAC is "THE EXACT DANGER LEVEL".

At the end of the day. If you want to drink, drink at home with friends and family and don't drive until you are nearing .00.

Saves you and everybody a lot of trouble. The laws are still arbitrary, though.

That has nothing to do with what is considered potentially lethal. That level is anything above .40, just like the guy said.

Wikipedia is not the best source when a topic is a frequent urban legend topic. All of those story's about BAC being over 1.0 listed Wikipedia read like bad urban legends because they are urban legends.

Look when someone goes into the ER with over .4 and are mobile and talking it is note worthy. That is what you call a hardcore alcoholic. When people hit someone and have a bac in the high end of .4 it hits the news in force. Most states have records for highest bac at time of arrest in the low .5 a few over .6 and one at .7. Wet Brain Alcoholics register between .3 and .5 frequently. .7 extremely rarely.
If that driver was .911 and arrested there is no way that doesn't hit the press and internet. It didn't happen. The poster was mistaken.

I don't doubt that the highest BAC whilst DUI'ing, comes from East Europe. Especially Poland. I mean, look at this:

Denatured alcohol comes in beverage containers there. Holy shiat, they put strongest synthetic bittering agents known to man in there!

IIRC, the .4 to .5 is the 50% fatality rate, so at, say .45, half the people with that BAC will die of alcohol poisoning. It is possible to survive above, but it's also possible to die before reaching it.
