What's the over on the number of hits he takes before he can't remember his name?

I knew, but only because NBC was promoting the fark out of it during the Iggles-Giants game last night.

I missed hockey when they were out the entire year about as much as I'll miss the NBA this year.

David Perron isn't expected back, plus the Blues aren't even playing tonight.

The Islanders season just gets better and better. Nabokov AND Montoya on IR, and they get to the be the sacrificial lambs tonight for the return of the Crosby.

/if they actually win tonight, I deserve credit for my dismissive comment as some sort of motivational trick.

You honestly believe he's going to be AS good as he was pre-concussion? Wow, that Crosby Kool-aid is strong.

Crosby's great, and I have no problems with him. I just hate the NHL trying to get me to develop a man-crush on the guy.

I love that 87's back. He's such an unbelievable talent.

I hate that it has to be against my Islanders, who have given up 2 points a game to Crosby over the course of his career and are currently trapped in a spiral of suck that, given expectations of decency this year, is much harder to deal with than their usual spirals of suck.

It's hard to say. They've been really careful to make sure the symptoms are gone. However, he could crumble like Lindros did. Will have to wait and see.

Yup, this pretty much sums up my feelings for him too.

Here's something I've never said a quarter of the way into the season:

The division leading Panthers take on the Devils tonight...

Let's go Butters!!

zippolight2002: You honestly believe he's going to be AS good as he was pre-concussion? Wow, that Crosby Kool-aid is strong.

Huh? Yeah, it'll take him some games to acclimate fully, but are you trying to wax poetic about him being "done"? Hell, Aaron Rodgers had TWO concussions last season alone...and he hasn't lost a game in a quite awhile.

I'll disagree with the 2nd part for this reason- there's no player in the game right now that's more divisive. And I'd say half of it isn't even his fault, it's the fault of the publicity machine that surrounds him (and even then, he's not in total control of it I'd dare say). And every sport needs a divisive personality so in that sense, he is good for the game.

With that said, I think he's massively overrated and doesn't deserve half of the publicity he gets. He's a good player but NOT a great one.

What the hell is up with the Caps lately? They've been awful lately. Aren't they like 1 -6-1 in the last 8?

They lost 7-1 to the Leafs!

He's not even the best player on that team. I'd take Malkin over Crosby.

Ovechkin is a better and more complete player. He just doesn't get sucked off by the NHL because he is ugly and speaks shiatty English

And he hasn't won anything.

Crosby has a Cup, an Olympic Gold and every relevant trophy the NHL has to offer.

Crosby is the best player in the game today, period. To say he's "good but not great" is too dumb for words.

I don't really care about the publicity machine but I can see how it turns people off. So I'll give people that.

But I don't understand where this idea that he's not a great player or that he's very overrated comes from. Sure, he's kind of soft and he can be better on defense. But is there anyone out there who can do more on offense? I mean, the guy had 66 points in half of a season last year. Who does that in this era?

I'm no Sidney Crosby fan, but come on. He's what, 24? He's won the Stanley Cup and an Olympic gold (scoring the winning goal no less). The guy has talent and likely would have been a great player and lead the Penguins to multiple championships. Now we'll just have to wait and see.

/I never thought he'd return

2011-11-21 02:27:21 PM
You don't win trophies by yourself, which is why being the best player is mostly meaningless. Barry Sanders was the best RB in the NFL when he played, but he never won a championship. Do you think that means he wasn't the best?

Even so, Ovie is still a better all around player then Crosby is. So is Malkin.

Considering your handle, are you from/in Phoenix? If so, I was kind of hoping after saying what I highlighted, you would then extrapolate further using about five paragraphs to make the case Keith Yandle is a better player than Sidney Crosby.

You know, just for lulz.

I like Ovi but there is no way in hell you can say his 2 way game is anywhere near the levels of crosby. I hate Crosby but i'll give the guy his do. He is a great player. I don't like the hype machine and I think he can be overly whiny but the guy can play hockey lights out.

Tim Connolly has been playing for a while n..... oh, wait. I forgot. Crosby gets the spotlight for everything. It is the only way for the league to succeed.

2011-11-21 02:47:32 PM
If Ovi's such a great player what is his excuse this year? Fat fark coach no like me? CCM stick no good so I take greatness to other company?
It won't take the kid long to blow right by Ovi this year so keep on talking about how great Ovi is.. he's becoming the " insert any locker room poison NFL wide receiver here" of the Caps and it's a race to see who goes first, Mr Boodroh or him.
Two different players on two very different teams. If I had to pick either of them to drop into any other team I don't think the decision would be very hard at all.

They may say the symptoms are gone but I would bet, if there were lingering symptoms they'd say the same thing. The way the league has played up Crosby as the "be all, end all" of hockey these days, there is no way they'd let him retire. This is still a business and the players are the commodity. And this is what happens when you put all of your eggs into 1 basket. They would a been better off highlighting 3-5 'star' players, that way if one goes down they're not completely screwed in the promotions department.

2011-11-21 02:49:08 PM
WTF are you talking about? Savard is done dude. He's not ever coming back.

*sobs*

Oh well, as much as I hate Crosby's juvenile antics on the ice, and as much as I love seeing his entitled ass cry like a biatch every time something doesn't go his way, I'm glad he's healthy enough to play again.

2011-11-21 02:49:36 PM
This thread smells like a lot of ass-hurt East Coasters who lose to the Pens a lot.

Deal with it.
