There must have been some seriously strange people buying Wilkins Coffee in 1958.

Cyno01: Not as freaky as Peter Jackson's early work...

Indeed. I recently viewed that horror comedy splatterfest he made several years ago-damn it,the name escapes me right now-and it was...freeeeaky.

Braindead/Dead Alive?

I believe Cyno01 was referring to Meet the Feebles

Comedy splatterfest could also be Bad Taste (which I actually saw in the cinema during its (very) limited release).
Actually, I saw meet the feebles in the cinema too. My then girlfiend (now, ex-wife) actually walked out of the theatre. I stayed and laughed my ass off. She was not happy I stayed.

Ugh.

I tried watching the Wizard Of Id thing.

Honest to god, I tried.

But even the brilliance of Jim Henson couldn't surpass the terribleness of Wizard Of Id.

I have the first season of SNL on DVD. There's some pretty good muppet stuff there. Not to mention some fantastic musical guests.

Quite odd, particularly since the new movie is incredibly naive and innocent (and pretty good fun). Nothing like the good ol' Meet the Feebles, though, back when Jackson was still making good movies...

Cyno01: Not as freaky as Peter Jackson's early work...

How anyone saw those movies and gave him hundreds of millions of dollars to make the LOTR series is a miracle.

That stuff is the 4chan of film.

Well, it's not quite a mop and it's not quite a puppet... but man...So to answer your question, I don't know.

It wasn't that freaky, but I did like Rowlf on the Jimmie Dean Show...

He's not credited, but I'm sure the voice of the disembodied head (and hand) eating celery is that of the great Ken Nordine (new window).

I'm guessing they figured he could handle fantasy given how well he did "Heavenly Creatures".
