zurich resident here. this has been in discussion here for some time.

basically, what the case was up till now (if you pull up zurich on gmaps and follow along) all along the river Limmat from just above limmatplatz for about 700yrds during the summer is just hookers hookers hookers. like so many migratory birds, during the summer the hungarians romanians and bulgarians come over to work for 90days and then go back. its like the eastern european equivlant of going to work in a fishery in alaska for the summer. the limmat is where they stand for the johns to pick them up in cars. if you go up Langstrasse from limmatplatz, there are another further large number who serve pedestrians. (yes we have an enormous red light here in zurich)

there are so many every year that the neighborhoods surrounding the limmat are just jam packed with parked johns parking their cars and getting their thang on. the bushes get littered with used condoms and the unsightlyness of all the hos standing around, and the men who come to gawk and drink and stuff...it all is just annoying as hell to the residents of the neighborhoods.

so theyre proposing to move it another mile out of town and sort of "fence it in" with these boxes and control it a little better. not such an impact on the neighborhoods, not as much trash, an easier area to police, etc.

frankly seems like a good idea to me.

Bonn did it better, when they introduced the Prostitution Meter (new window), where one may buy a nightly permit for sex work.

What tourist WOULDN'T want to pay 6 euro for a "prostitution permit" to scrapbook?

2011-11-21 05:46:33 AM
Why would this be a problem?

Are the cars idling? Do the customers rev the engines as they get rev'ed up themselves?
No.

So stop judging them - what goes on between a man and his penis, while he's sitting in a car oogling scantily clad women is nobody's business!

/But parking on the beach in a car with tinted windows would probably be cheaper.

Most parties voted in favour of the loan, but the project met with resistance from the Swiss People's Party (SVP), the Evangelical People's Party (EVP) and the Swiss Democrats (SD).

So Switzerland is infected with those god-bothering busy-bodies, too?

What a sane, obvious, and common-sense solution to the problem. That's how I can tell you're from Europe. That would never fly over here.

The American approach which would be to sanctimoniously arrest the hookers, confiscate the john's cars, and put everybody's mug shots on the internet.

FYI, European Evangelicals are not the same thing as Americal Evangelists by a *far* cry.

They are Protestants in the direct following of Martin Luther, and you won't find a more relaxed sort of Christian church anywhere in the world.

If any religious group does *not* deserve the insult "god-bothering busy-bodies", it's them.

Another Swiss here, but I aint gonna post pictures of hot swiss chicks. You have to come here yourself guys (tourism is a major industry here, so...)

The idea of sex stalls is not new in any way and is used in Germany and Netherlands already with mixed results. But anything is better than people copulating in back alleys and used condoms and feces in the bushes.

If you plan to come to Switzerland to get your freak on, please do consider one of the licensed brothels, they do cost more, but the quality of service is also that much better. And also, there is already a huge billboard advertising one at the airport, so dont worry about having to look for it.

Feces? Is this something else we Americans are doing wrong? I used to have to visit a warehouse in a rundown part of town. The parking lot we used by prostitutes in the evenings. There were always a lot of used condoms and booze bottles but I never saw feces. Is this another part of the prostitution experience we're doing wrong? Inquiring minds . . .

OK, in the interest of international cultural relations, I would like to make an inquiry about the prostitutes in Swiss-chocolate-land. See, here in America, if the working girl is very beautiful, she makes a huge amount of cash and works for an agency of some type that only serves the richest of the rich. The other girls, well.... think meth-addict. Add in the fact that most Americans are overweight, while most Europeans are fit...

What does the average Swiss-Miss whore look like? Pics would be helpful. In the interest of international cultural enlightenment, of course.

The Swiss seem to have cornered the market on common sense solutions.

My other favourite Swiss program is that people pay for garbage removal by weight. The less trash you create the less you pay. Your trash bin has a personalized chip in it and a locking top. The truck weighs your bin, and unlocks it with a master key.

You bet. Most of Europe is, but they've had so many religious wars they pretty much ignore them now.

Another good Swiss program: speeding fines are relative to your income. This was in response to rich people flouting the law. Now, the more you make the more you can be fined for breaking rules of the road.

2011-11-21 09:25:12 AM
Feh, on the Swiss. I don't patronize Nazi collaborators.
