MegaDerp sucks. Metallica was wise to kick that douche bag out of their band.

Megadeth won the minute Peace Sells was released.

That said, 1981 called just now, looking for Motley Crue - Public Enemy #1 (new window)

If you're comparing both bands at their best, then Metallica wins. If you're comparing them over the long haul and which one has become least like Nickleback, then Megadeth wins.

I'm sorry but once you turn to Jesus, you lose all metal credibility.

Mustaine is a jesus freak so if you like that sort of thing... why not go with Stryper...

I really don't get this obsession with this burnt out husk singing the praises of the right wing and Jesus.

I mean why???

Haven't watched tfv yet, but that's a terrible name for an album. "oh look, were sort of ripping off that horror movie from the nineties, except ours is 6 better. This album goes up to 13. Etc etc"

I dunno, I'm really partial to Killing is my business... and Rust in Peace as well.

Megadeth has one thing going for them: They aren't Slayer.

Pretty much how I feel.

Also S+M happened, which was not when they were anywhere close to their "best," and was still absurdly awesome.

Looks like they've regressed. Shame. They released two solid albums (Endgame and United Abominations) in the last few years, now it's back to the rockish stuff of the 90's.

2011-11-20 05:05:59 PM
Im not sure dave still cares about "winning" anymore, but I think that he is in a way. This album isnt all that stellar, but there have been good megadeth records in all 3 decades it existed, you cant say the same thing about metallica.

Metallica broke up in 1992, and formed a new band with the same members called Metallica, they focused mainly on undoing all the good Metallica did in its first 10 years. They have been very successful.

HighZoolander: Bestial Raids - Ceremonial Bloodshed (new window)

Bestial Raids is sooooo good.

Regarding Megadeth/Metallica: Metallica hasn't had a good album since 1984, so it's really no comparison. Whatever, neither of them have released anything listenable since 1990. Anyways, Midnight doesn't give a f*ck about your dinosaur bands. Neither does Antediluvian. Thy Catafalque too.

MFAWG: I lasted 37 seconds. I was thinking about going to see them and Motorhead, but I'm not sure I can sit through more than a bar set of that.

You know, I probably wouldn't worry about hearing a lot of the new album at the show. The last time I saw them (touring with Slayer), they played through the entireity of Rust in Peace, then two newer songs, then some more old stuff. Wasn't a bad set, honestly.

Worst case scenario, just skip the Megadeth part and go see Motörhead.

2011-11-20 06:39:07 PM
I liked both bands back in the day, and music is very subjective, but that sounded incredibly cheezie to my ears. Certainly not the metal giants they used to be.

Yeah, I was gonna say that Megadeth has never been as good nor as bad as Metallica, though lord knows Dave has tried on both counts.

The only serious thing that comes to mind is Nachtreich, which I'd liken to "blackened chamber music." My silly response would be Andrew W.K. (and now, my internet-famous a capella rendition of the melodic grand piano instrumentation of Wilkes Krier's "Party Hard" in E major: dink, dink, dink, dink, dink, dink, dink, dink...).

Cool - thanks for the setups.

Yeah, he may be a Dennis Leary, but after reading his book I feel for him for having to live with such a monstrous ego.

I think that's the best song I've heard from Vektor yet - it was quite good.

I've been starting to think of a best-of 2011 list (or at least, my favorites from 2011), and I was poking around on metal archives, and got the search thingy to pull up over 4,000 full length studio albums released this year (not even including live albums, EPs, box sets, DVDs or a few other things).

It made me sad. If I figure that at most I buy 100 albums in a year (and I spend a lot on music, but that's really really a stretch), and magazines and websites and what-not come out with their best-of/top-50/top-100 of the year lists, which usually aren't all that different from each other, it means that there are easily several thousand metal albums per year that I haven't heard or even necessarily heard anything about. And even if 3/4 of them are in sub-genres I don't care about, that's still a lot that I'm missing.

I hate to think that they're all just terrible (it's possible, but man that would be depressing), but I also hate to think that the "best" albums are determined so much by advertising and name recognition (in general, I mean, not by you). Maybe that's just an unavoidable part of the way things work though.

Ah well. Maybe I'll aim for a top 30 this year instead of a top 20.

This is all that needs to be said on the subject. Metallica can spend the rest of their career dropping epic turds with Lou, none of it will diminish that particular album.

Anthrax won.
