Given the awful "solutions" the Republicans have put forward, I think we can all agree that failure is the best option.

2011-11-20 10:47:13 AM
Yes, considering the alternative, this is probably the best possible outcome.

/though there's still plenty of time for the Democrats to totally puss out like they ALWAYS DO.

i'm waiting for this.

FlashHarry: i'm waiting for this.

Maybe if they cave to the Republican hardliners again and give Grover Norquist everything he wants, THIS will be the time that voters reward them for being such serious sensible compromising moderates.

2011-11-20 10:58:31 AM
You mean they can't even agree on blaming each other?

2011-11-20 11:24:06 AM
FlashHarry: i'm waiting for this.

So's everyone else. I expect they'll agree to one of the Republican "compromises" that have been proposed. Given the President's recent actions though, I think he'd veto it if that's actually possible.

I get the feeling we're seeing nothing but political kabuki theater from here on out.

Waiting for someone to introduce a continuing resolution to give the SuperCon more time. And for Obama to veto that resolution. Get your shiat together or don't bother coming into work. Stay back at your apartment snorting coke off a hooker's ass while the rest of us go do our damn jobs.

Big cuts to defense. Bush tax cuts going bye bye. No cuts to Medicare or social security.

I think no deal is a good deal, at least compared to what Republicans proposed.

So you would prefer cuts and taxing of the middle class for more tax cuts for the poor?

A good default position--considering that people are too busy rimjobbing Grover Norquist to act like adults and get their shiat together in the spirit of shared sacrifice.

So what? A mandatory 120 billion a year cut touching both entitlements and defense sounds like a small step in the right direction.

pretty pathetic that we have reached a point where legislative fail is a huge win for America. Fark the "SuperduperCommittee", DO YOUR JOBS CONGRESS, you bunch of cowardly, corporate whorebags.

Also, while I'm here, I don't know why the ads for this page are advertising episodes of something called 'Winx Club', with a fairy on it, but it just seems like the biggest disconnect between target audience and thread population ever.

Your aware that some of the "successful" plans would of cut LESS not more than will be cut by it "failing"?

You would of preferred them to "succeed" and make less or not cuts?

Why do you hate Ronald Reagan?

Unless they're voting on how to make themselves richer or more powerful, this is what we're going to get.

I love the part where now they're all running around looking at things to try and save from the cuts. They're not serious about actually cutting anything. Even now. They just want to LOOK like they're cutting something. Put actual cuts in front of them and it's all of a sudden OMG I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE.

Why does Congress even need something called a "Super Committee" to do their job? My confusion about not having heard about this committee until this week is balanced about not really wanting to learn about some other wrinkle the government has created in order to function. Now that this one is failing, will they have to create a Super Duper Committee?

2011-11-20 02:48:01 PM
I'm thinking that we will soon be told that this is Obama's fault, and that this is good news for (Mc)Cain.

Gosling: Put actual cuts in front of them and it's all of a sudden OMG I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE.

Well yeah. Ask them to choose between doing what's best for the country or what's best for themselves and it's not exactly a surprise which one they're going to pick.

Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate and control of the house and presidency and couldn't accomplish anything. Fark both parties.

Carth: Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate

They had 59. Which if we were run by human beings with a sense of decency or shame would normally be more than enough. At this point, though, 99 may not be enough, because that last guy would gum up everything with one-man holds.

Step 1. Reduce top income tax bracket to 0%
Step 2. Give all government revenue straight to the top 2% in the form of phat rebate checks
Step 3. Wait for that wealth to just trickle back down, baby

It's pretty amazing it was both.

also like I said demos didn't have 60 democrats.

What the fark are you talking about?

Ireland, healthy economy prior to the crash 4 years ago. Forced austerity and massive cuts since. Still struggling with high unemployment and low revenue. Debt still exceeds GDP

Greece, major issues with tax evasion of it's own 1%. Severe government cuts massive unemployment, Greece's 1% continues to evade taxes, the refuses to help recover this lost revenue, demanding Austerity alone for Greece. Greece will default on it's debt after 4 years of cuts.

Italy, extreme corruption. Eurozone forced austerity measures, high unemployment for years. Default is a very high risk.

Portugal, a perfectly healthy economy before Lehman brothers failed. Got caught holding loads of worthless investments. Eurozone forced Austerity cuts, now high unemployment and debt still exceeds GDP.

Spain, high exposure to Ireland, Italy and Greece debt. Years of forced austerity in those countries has done nothing to help them pay there debt. If If Greece or Italy defaults, Spain's economy falls.

Cuts have not done a god damn thing to help the debt and actually, in every situation sevvere austerity cuts have made the employment situation even worse.

Your joyful clueless parroting of Fox news bloviators only serves to demonstrate your own complete lack of clue on what exactly is about to send the world's economy into yet another great depression.

tax and Spend had NOTHING to do with this world wide crisis. It all revolves around toxic investments that failed which triggered extreme economic contraction worldwide.

Get a brain DUMB FARK...

You wouldnt have these 40 year entrenched assholes (in both parties) who worry about their re-election over what the people elected them for as much either.

There was 59 Democrats and 1 independent. Not 60 democrats.

I like how now all non-republicans are considered "democrats" now.

I think you missed the point of my mini-rant. The fact that congress punted to a 'super-committee' is basically congress wussing out on making adult, realistic decisions. They refuse to do their jobs cause they fear losing their place at the trough. Gutless, cowardly behavior for people whose job it is to make difficult, mature decisions, but what else would you really expect from the boomer generation?
