What, not going on your homophobic rants today? I guess they didnt resonate as well as you thought. It did prove the suspicion that there was something other than concern for the victims fueling you vitriol though.

You do realize there are going to be multiple trials, yes? Or you're completely comfortable condemning everyone who was named in the 23 page grand jury report, a document that is heavily biased towards the prosecution's case in order to secure a trial and doesn't even contain the transcripts of the testimonies, so we know the bare minimum of who has said what? Or even further, you're comfortable with ending the entire football program, which will not only hurt the players who had nothing to do with this, but the rest of the university's sports teams who rely on the funding provided by football to operate? Sure, that makes total sense.

vudukungfu: Penn State lobbied for exclusions under the Right to Know Law when it was updated in 2008. Penn State and the other state-related universities have a special exemption that prevents the public from accessing the schools' emails, phone records and other records that many other universities must provide.

(new window)

2008

I'm sure that had nothing to do with the fact that a politician was using the right to know laws to personally attack the professors who published data that conflicted with said politicians political viewpoints.

It reminds me of a certain Farker who is trying to demonize a vast swath of people based on unrelated issues.

mikaloyd: Can you think of a single football program in history that did worse things than the Penn State football program?

Can you pull your head out of your ass and consider that maybe it's not just because I'm from Penn State that I'm against holding people who didn't do anything responsible for shiat that others did? You're acting like Penn State's entire student body lined up and pulled a train on some kids right there on main street. That's not the case.

NONE of the students playing football did anything wrong. Why are you lumping them in with what their coach did? It's retarded. Yes, other programs have been shut down for the actions of a few. I don't agree with those either.

Maybe it's something only people who've been falsely accused feel, but I would rather the guilty walk free than the innocent be punished. Nothing sucks worse than being held responsible for shiat you had nothing to do with. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even you who seem to need some perspective on why it's wrong to do such things. Fry Sandusky, but punishing innocents is wrong and so are you for trying to do it.

I remember in high school when 5 of the guys got caught drinking. We had to cancel a game. Not for lack of players, but because teem members let something they weren't supposed to do, happen.

I'm sorry if you are upset if your 3 hours of beer drinking would not include Penn State. I'm also sorry if you are a big wig CEO who loses ad revenue if they wouldn't play. Penn State should not be playing in a bowl game this year.

Punishing the players for something the players did is exactly the same as punishing the players for something a coach did.

GoldSpider: People are more angry at Joe Paterno and the players than they are at Sandusky.

This is a silly statement since a person's thoughts on Jerry Sandusky are very rarely expressed (outside of, maybe, the first thread on this topic). The general consensus from 99%+ of the Fark community is he should spend the rest of his life in jail and/or we should just kill him now.

There is no argument or disagreement or conflict on how people feel about Sandusky, so there is no conversation about it. To equate the lack of conversation about Sandusky with a degree of anger towards his actions is quite disingenuous. Yet, people have stated that repeatedly.

"Golly, you guys just aren't as mad at the actual perv. what is wrong with everyone?" isn't a valid argument since, if asked, most everyone would state that he is a monster that deserves to go to jail.

2011-11-20 10:07:40 AM
mikaloyd: You are not a victim here.

No, I'm not a perp either. And neither is any kid on the football team.

Being angry at the entire football program is insane. 99.9% of people in the program had nothing to do with this. Probably more like 99,99% given the number of people directly involved in the program.

So we should punish Penn State's football students, the Penn State Marching Band, the Cheer Leaders, the employees of the university, and the vendors whose living is based on the fact that Beaver Stadium holds more than double the number of people than the surrounding township and has big drawing power because of ONE PERV and a handful of idiots.

You're simply illogical. Mr Spock would not approve.

bulldg4life: "Golly, you guys just aren't as mad at the actual perv. what is wrong with everyone?" isn't a valid argument since, if asked, most everyone would state that he is a monster that deserves to go to jail.

I think it's perfectly valid when the level of outrage and vitriol is in no way proportional to the offense.

Yes, the man made a tragic mistake and publicly admitted as much. Why that isn't enough for the howling masses, I don't know. You'd think that they were the ones molested.

GoldSpider: I think it's perfectly valid when the level of outrage and vitriol is in no way proportional to the offense.

I know. These people are just so upset about one instance of child rape. I mean, Paterno told one person. What more do you want from him, right?

GoldSpider: Why that isn't enough for the howling masses, I don't know. You'd think that they were the ones molested.

Because there are people on this site that have spent hours upon hours deflecting and diminishing Paterno's inaction in an attempt to absolve him. That makes everyone else angrier because it's a goddamn stupid thing to do.

To admonish those that call Paterno a failure for his inaction and joke that maybe they were molested is quite laughable.

If only the hatred ended at the football program! I don't know how many people I've heard say things along the lines of "If I was a hiring manager and a resume from a Penn State graduate crossed my desk, it would go right in the trash!"

How people guided by so much irrational hate presume to judge anyone is beyond me.
