The odd thing about this week is that in spite of it being a bye week for the Steelers I actually care about a few outcomes.

First, I hope the Bengals beat the hated Ratbirds and put them in third place in the division. If the Bengals lose it's no big deal but I do have a preferred outcome, and that is very unusual in a game where I typically hope they just kill each other.

I also hope that the Giants put the Eagles out of their misery. Living where I do I see altogether too many Eagles fans, and while the arrogance went away weeks ago it'll be nice to see the Giants drive the final stake in their hearts.

Bengals today and the 49ers on Thursday...

This stretch will determine if the Ravens are contenders or pretenders. I really have no idea at this point

Hey, they're heavily favored to beat Jacksonville, so don't lose hope. They're bound to win sooner or later.

2011-11-20 12:02:01 PM
will be out for most of day so absent the official NFL thread here's my thoughts. last week sucked. i went like, 6-6 i think, and i already lost the NYJ game as I thought they'd get it done. odd lines this week.

@ Atl -6.5 Tenn 44
both teams are 2-2 in respective home/OTR.....ATL has been disappointing this year despite 5-4 and being in the heart of the wild card.....I just don't trust ATL with that number, which seems a bit high. I would take Tenn.

@Miami -2.5 Rough Buff 43
what happend to Buffalo? man. I would take them though. both teams are 1-3 in respective home/otr performance.

@ Balt -7 Cin 40.5
Balt is 4-0 at home, yet Cin is 4-1 OTR. ANd no Ray Lewis (who hasn't played to his usual level this year, he seems to have finally realized he's 53 years old). Both teams coming off a loss. I'm gonna say Cincy heists this one.

@ Cleve -1 Jax 34
ehh....Jax.

@Minn -1 Oak 45.5
Oakland.

@ Detr -7 Caro 47.5
Detroit but i have no confidence in this. I think Caro will keep it close but not by a TD. Caro keeps having those sstupid games where they score 28 but give up 35.

@GB -14 TB 48.5
Over / under on moronic "ZOMG THE BATTLE OF THE BAYS!!!!" jokes: 11.5

That is a massive number, and those usually/frequently end up not covering (ex a, the Giants game at 11 vs Seattle, last week's arizona 10.5 vs Eagles.......I'm gonna say TB covers. And i'll regret saying that!

Dallas -7 @ Wash 41.5
Dallas. Wash is awful (5 game losign streak) and will have no answer for a Dallas team that has a good playoff shot.

also, last nigth was the ASU/UofA rivalry game. Jake Plummer was interviewed. He found the fountain of youth. He looks 23 years old despite being about the same age as me. anyways, the reason i'm bringing this up, is he was asked if he ever had thoughts about returning to the NFL. He kinda dodged the question, which I found odd, and then he said something like "cam newton is changing the NFL. and look at Tim Tebow, what he's doing for us." (Odd that he called teh Donkos "us", as he was officially traded to TB -- who retains his rights, i believe.) Then Jake, (there is a point to this, Washington fans, says, "I mean, those guys are being given the freedom to just play. And they're getting results. When you have a coach, and.....I don't wanna name any names, but....when you have a coach that just insists on running this play a certain way and it doesn't work...I don't wanna name names, but....yeah, I still follow the NFL a lot."

No names mentioned, huh? Hmm....who was coaching Denver and bled out Jake's will to play NFL football....hmmmm....

@SF -10 AZ 40.5
SF traditionally owns AZ home or away. I bet the record over the last 5 years is like, Arizona 2-8. when we were "good", we still got swept by SF. Hell, if I recall correctly, one of SFO's 2-14 seasons, their wins were both on us. Skelton will get his third start today. Mighty big line.....I will pick Arizona to cover. All the signs say no, but.....hey man, I'm Redbird Nation, what am I supposed to say?

@STL -3 SEA 40
Seattle outright. STL is still pretty bad, and Seattle is due for one of their bipolar / manic episode games wehre they win like, 33-10 or some shiat.

@ Chi -4.5 San Dog 45
Hmm....will weather be factor today? sloggy, cold field neitralizing SD's speed? Gotta with Chicago on this. SD desperate needs this game but they're just not getting it done.

@NYG -6 Phi 45
NYG. Eli vs Vince Young. Come on man.

2011-11-20 12:02:19 PM
Start Josh Cribbs at WR vs Jacksonville or Dwayne Bowe, without Matt Cassel, @ New England?

Another 0-1 start ain't gonna stop me from posting a huge comeback win this week; I'm kinda like Tebow, but not in a sacrilegious way (why the fark is that word spelled that way?). Winners highlighted in bold:

New York Jets at Denver Broncos:
Okay, seriously...who saw that coming?

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens:
Flacco has famously struggled against the Bengals, but I still have to go with the home team in this matchup.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns:
If ever there was an NFL game likely to end in a 0-0 tie, this is it. But I think the Jags will run the ball well enough to score in the double digits, which is enough to win in Cleveland.

Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions:
If this Lions team is really going to collapse down the stretch, this game would be a perfect start to it. But I don't see that happening.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Green Bay Packers:
Anyone else remember when this series was the lowlight of the NFL season? It might still be for Tampa.

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins:
Miami is on a two game winning streak, but Buffalo's offense has too many weapons, and Miami's offense doesn't have enough.

Oakland Raiders at Minnesota Vikings:
This is your shootout for the week. Whatever the over/under is, I'll take the over.

Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins:
I'm very tempted to go with the home team in this heated rivalry, but I just can't bring myself to pick the Redskins again.

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers:
There are very few teams I'd pick over the Niners right now, especially at home. And there are very few teams I'd pick the Cardinals over.

Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams:
Call it a gut feeling if nothing else. In a matchup of two equally bad teams, I'll take the hosts.

Tennessee Titans at Atlanta Falcons:
Both teams need this win to keep pace in the playoff hunt; Atlanta is just the better of the two.

San Diego Chargers at Chicago Bears:
Chicago is playing great football lately. San Diego, not so much.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants:
Vince Young is my early favorite for this week's Delhomme. He's perfect for the season: 1 attempt, 1 interception.

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots:
Time for the Pats to start another home winning streak. Their next two opponents in Foxboro: Indianapolis and Miami.

It feels weird looking forward to a 9ers game, but that's where we are. Usually they don't have a problem with them, but who knows. Should be a good game and put the 9ers one step closer to clinching if they win.

And no Leon Hall. Look for Flacco to air it out if the Bengals' pass rush isn't up the job.

JosephFinn: Mike Martz, you have a call on the white courtesy phone.

i wonder how a Plummer return would shake out....he was traded to TB and after not reporting, there was some kind of negotiated buyout (I think TB sent a draft pick or two to Denver, but with Jake not reporting, they were rightfully upset). So, does TB have his rights or, would he be a UFA in teh event he did return?

and to those saying it is a dumb idea, admittedly it is. But, AJ Feeley didn't take a snap between 2007 and 2011; he went the entirety of 2008, 2009, and 2010 without a single live snap. Hell I think he wasn't even on a roster at a point.

interesting.

Harv72b: No A.J. Green, either. But even as a Ravens fan, 7 points seems like a lot for this one.

yeah, and the Ravens have looked pretty mediocre lately....i would stay away from taht game.

The Ravens rarely suck against good teams. Hopefully the Bengals don't start fumbling the ball early because the Ravens will pick up on the habit and lose.

I think Detroit. Better pass rush, and more likely to spend a good chunk of the game defending the pass.
