fark challenge- think of a better unisex sport for balanced competition.
my submission is combining fencing with the gymnastic balance beam.
men will have longer strides and arm reach but women have a lower center of balance.

or make the uneven parallel bars the most popular international sport and laugh at guys who try to compete.

2011-11-19 06:34:57 PM
As a guy, I don't know why men make such a big deal out of this. Men DO have a physical athletic advantage over women in most sports. Nobody says there are no differences between men and women (ahem, degenerate-afro). Just no--make that few--differences that matter in real life (i.e. not in sports).

Now if a guy was trying to infiltrate an all-girls chess club, that would be different. Extremely petty and self-serving, but different. I could stand for that on at least principle.

Incidentally, I'm fine with not giving any "records" to these boys, and I'd even be okay if they didn't give them "girls" trophies.

The sexism in the article is pretty incredible, though. I'm glad it's okay to be biased if you're of one gender.

Okay, I understand allowing boys to train/compete on a school's girls team if there is no boys team, but shouldn't they qualify for the boys state meet at least in the individual races? TFA mentioned some schools do it that way, but shouldn't all of them?

I know the NCAA has mandated that football schools offer 2 sports as women only as a way to "balance" things out. I'm guessing lots of high schools have something similar.

It seems from the article that the boys and girls seasons are held during different times of the year.
Boys swimming is held in the winter, when pool space is limited and expensive to rent, which is a deterrent for many schools.
So because of lack of interest and expense the school doesn't bother to field a boys team.

This.

Honestly, I believe in equal rights for men and women...just so long as they're EQUAL RIGHTS. And also if some modicum of logic is used. Unfortunately, logic seems to go by the wayside whenever some of the overt feminists see some lady unable to play something that they suck at/aren't well suited for. In other words -- if you suck at a sport, then for fark's sake, you shouldn't make the team. If you are good enough, then by all means. That's what Title IX is supposed to protect. However, people are idiots.

Also when it comes to men and women, they are equal with the big picture. Some thing men are better at than women but there are some things women are better at than men (like sandwich making (there, I said the joke for you...)) both sides even out to make it basically equal. There's always exceptions to the rule. I just hate when people are sexist on either side. And trust me, women are just as bad as men are with sexism. Every other woman I know seem to think of men as simple primitive morans. And it's annoying as hell to listen to them.

It's not misogyny to claim that women and men are equal in every aspect of life. The same way that it's not misandry to tell a guy he can't wear your underwear. I've always wondered why people throw around misogyny so quickly, but the term misandry is rarely used for the same types of verbal extremes. Perhaps that is another inequality that should be looked into.

So to close out the thread, we all agree it is moronic for boys to swim on girls' swimming teams because boys are, by and large, bigger and stronger than girls. Boys without a swim team can do what home school kids do and join a team playing for a school they don't attend, or they can form their own damn team.

this will challenge their definition of what it means to be a 'good sport' in the face of adverse conditions.
