Steven Wallace> -- Holy crap does that kid wreck alot of cars. Thankfully his dad will keep him in that car unconditionally. He is like Paul Menard without the talent.

There's enough Start & Park drivers in the field that he only needs to run about 20-30 laps (based on recent results) to lock up the title.

The race actually starts 15.30 VST.

That's 15.30 Central (United States of America) Time. I'll let you do the rest of the conversions.

This. The typical NASCAR race has more passes for the lead than an F1 has in total.
Real race fans (in America, at least) don't like fuel strategies, or any other way for a race to be decided in the pits instead of on the track. And don't get me started on team orders.

True, I've seen that F1 is getting better about that. But a 220 mph parade is still just a parade. Let the racers race, dammit. I think one of the reasons the Aussie V8 series has been getting popular in America is that it's a great combination of NASCAR-style cars and racing on F1-style tracks. Best of both worlds.

Hmm, looks like they bumped the start time back to fit in Cup qualifying.

Evil Kirk vs Bad Ash: Why don't Nascar fans like F1 again?

Actually, a lot of us like both. I find following both to be a complementary experience.

I like F1 because it's a flashy, expensive, technologically advanced spectacle that demonstrates the the very bleeding edge of what man and machine can accomplish in a battle against a complex circuit. On the other hand, it can also be a boring parade with little significant driver to driver interaction on track and even less passing. (Though gimmicks like DRS zones have diminished this long standing criticism.) You need only look at how some of the "stars" suddenly lose their shiat if they're unfortunate enough to actually have to start partway back. Vettel, Massa, and others have been criticized for being able to put up great laps, but if you stick more than a couple cars in front of them, their day goes to hell.

I like NASCAR because when you leave the cars primitive and brutish, have sturdy fenders on them, and stick those big heavy V8 monsters on simpler tracks, you emphasize driver to driver interaction as the key to the outcome of the race. Rarely does an event occur where the eventual winner hasn't had to contend with someone trying to take his line away, mess up his aero, or even lay a fender to him. This driver to driver interaction is exciting in the exact opposite way of F1. Of course, the cars are primitive to the point they're no longer relevant to the street cars they supposedly represent, NASCAR has gotten more and more political, and when they do hit a road course, it's often with hilariously disastrous results. Though many of the top level guys have gotten much better over the years, it's still pure carnage from half pack back.

*shrug.*

Hope you get where I'm coming from. If not, it's cool. I'll still remember to make my contribution to the F1 headline queue.

Honestly, the two most entertaining races in NASCAR this year have been on road courses, and they really ought to add more.

I think even if Stenhouse finishes last, unless Elliot Sadler leads the most laps and wins the race, he's got it locked up.

That said, tomorrow's race ought to be killer. This one, less so, because it's locked up, basically.

Sadler got shafted at Phoenix. That massive strip of apron in whatever turn that was(2?) was a horrible idea.

joepainter: Steven Wallace> -- Holy crap does that kid wreck alot of cars. Thankfully his dad will keep him in that car unconditionally. He is like Paul Menard without the talent.

This, sort of.

In six years of NNS competition, Wallace's stats read:

5 top-5's, 31 top-10's, avg. start 18.6, avg. finish 20.3. $4.4MM+ in winnings.

That said, he's never going to be his dad. It's like a lesser Petty schism. Talent seems to have skipped a generation - so the next one should come back with a vengeance.

The only thing that makes me wonder about Steven Wallace: if he was in top NNS equipment, would he run better? Rusty Wallce Racing seems to be an average team, at best.

Of course, given his performance in Rusty's equipment, I can't see anyone else letting him drive their car(short of Penkse, perhaps).

And all of this. I don't follow F1 religiously, but I keep tabs. I'd love to see the IRL get it's house in order and become a top-tier circuit again, though.

It's funny to think Stenhouse was wrecking worse than Wallace just a year ago. It seems some drivers just start out that way, but learn their limits eventually.

Of course, Roush had to park the kid to get that lesson through to him, something Rusty seems too soft to do to his own son, even as he gives drivers in the 62 the boot when they don't perform. That unconditional support is probably the biggest impediment to Steven Wallace's growth as a driver.

Engine let go at the same time other guys were wrecking. 5 cars off track already, including him. I don't know if it's terminal, or one of those loose oil line deals. That was a wicked hit last week.

I know he said some last week after his got caught up in Sadler's wreck at Phoenix that the engine in his Phoenix car was the same one he was taking to Homestead, and he wasn't sure if it would hold up. So either it was the same engine and it didn't hold up, or something else happened. Ah, well.

I want to see Sadler pull this out for KHI, but it's not going to happen.

/Didn't help he couldn't win a race all season.

6 cars dropped out of the race, meaning Stenhouse could park it now even if Sadler won and led the most laps.

They were saying Roush wants Bayne in Nationwide full time to get a shot at the championship, and that Stenhouse has earned a shot at Cup by pulling it off this year, so he's "talking to," the Wood Bros. They may be reluctant to give Bayne up, but they might be even more reluctant to endanger their support from Roush.

I wonder if M&M Mars will keep Kyle on next year? I guess his car sponsor for this race pulled him.
If M&Ms does drop Kyle who would be a good match as sponsor for him?
