Well you wouldn't want him working himself into a froth over it, would you? I mean, that would be kind of shiatty.

2011-11-19 09:51:48 AM
And he is... who exactly? Of course I know, he used to be one of my state's Senators, but he's doing exactly what now? Running for President still? I thought he gave up on that. Why is he still making headlines, that's what I'm wondering.

Years ago the Republican party passed around a document to Republican politicians giving advice on how to speak to conservative crowds. One of the topics was that a Republican candidate should never correct the popular myths that are espoused by the public. Let them believe what they want, if you correct them then they no longer believe you support their crazy ideas.

2011-11-19 10:01:14 AM
Well that makes sense. An uniformed voter is a good Republican voter.

2011-11-19 10:14:13 AM
A lie of omission is still a lie.

2011-11-19 10:14:33 AM
Why should he?

I for one don't think Obama is a Muslim any more than I think he is a Christian. He will say or do whatever is politically expedient. If you want to think he is one or the other, that is your business.

2011-11-19 10:28:18 AM
I don't think it should farking MATTER if he's Christian or Muslim or Zoroastrian or Neo-Zen-Druid.

This is the United States. No matter how much the republicans wish otherwise, it is not some third world Theocracy.

I rest my case.

Soooooo...which is it?

That's why they call him a "politician", I would guess.

2011-11-19 11:21:49 AM
I don't really believe Obama's competent and anyone who hasn't figured that one out for themselves does not need me to correct them... Because they are beyond hope.

But really, Obama's not a Muslim, of course, he claims to be a Christian and isn't one of those either. His church of 20 years was primarily concerned with racism and other forms of bigotry so I could see where people might confuse him for a Muslim or a Christian.

I don't believe that Santorum is a power bottom that hangs out at truck stops and rest areas in his spare time picking up bears.

No, scratch that, do believe that.

That's mighty white of him.

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the core problem with the Republican Party. They will foster lies to encourage racists and conspiracy theorists to vote for them, and the ones who know better don't care.

What do facts matter anyway when you have truthiness and soundbites.

I really like that Republicans are still talking about this crap.

offmymeds: Santorum? Is he even still running for president? And if so, WHY?

I have no idea. He has to know that he has a better chance at being aroused by a naked Salma Hayek than winning the Presidency or even being picked as a VP running mate. Maybe it's a tax write-off thing.

Hi. I'm Rick Santorum and I consider my base to be useful idiots.

"The President says he's a Christian, I believe he's a Christian. [But] I usually don't necessarily contradict people when they say things that, frankly, I don't agree with."

So he's saying that the President's faith is a matter of one's opinion, and different people can have different views on what his faith is?

Either Santorum is a master of deep metaphysical philosophy, or he's full of shiat.

The only thing the GOP loves more than a frightened voting base is a dumb voting base.

Seriously, I hunt and hunt for some redeeming value of the Republican party -- I'd really love to say, "Well at least the Republicans have this facet of governance handled superior to the Democrats", but it's really hard to find what that "this" is. Especially when there are many Democrats that carry the fiscally conservative torch w/o all the other terrible ideals attached.

2011-11-19 11:53:54 AM
offmymeds: Santorum? Is he even still running for president? And if so, WHY?

Simple. The Republicans are burning through frontrunners at an astonishing pace. The math says that the next one will emerge roughly at the time of the Iowa caucuses. If that next one is Santorum, he'll suddenly have "momentum," and could end up the de facto Not-Romney for the primary season. And hell, if Newt "my campaign imploded six months ago" Gingrich can lead the pack, why not Santorum?

Plus, campaigning is free publicity for your PAC, which can funnel money to you by buying your books and other interesting tactics.

2011-11-19 11:55:50 AM
"A lot of his policies are aimed toward big government, government controlling the means of production," Santorum said, "which, of course, is the definition of Marxism."

I was going to read this article but every time I listen to or read this man's words, it's like I'm playing piñata with a huge sealed bag of diarrhea. It's already not pleasant... but it has the potential to get a lot worse.

So I'm going to go read a book. Hasta luego, Politics tab!

To say that a Christian or Muslim or Atheist would not let their belief or lack or belief affect what they believe politically is just ludicrous. However, I never even questioned what his religious beliefs were because those are personal. This old man is just scared of the black man in the whitehouse and nothing will change his mind, he will vote against Obama.

I really can't blame him for letting someone else blow the dog whistle for him. I feel dirty saying something that sort of takes that hatemonger's side. Go away, Santorum, just go away. The world will be better without you spewing your bigotry.

In what way does this make him different from other politicians?

Bigdogdaddy: To say that a Christian or Muslim or Atheist would not let their belief or lack or belief affect what they believe politically is just ludicrous

Maybe. I'm just surprised at all the current candidates and former politicians who openly say that they talk to God and God tells them what to do and people don't find that farking scary as shiat.

Way to show leadership Rick. That's just what I want in a president, someone too afraid to educate the ignorant. For everything bad about John McCain, at least he had the balls to say "No, he's a christian".

Later, the two actually sparred over the idea of "notch babies" in the Social Security debate years ago. Jones said he was a notch baby, and said because of it he had been kept from getting some of the benefits he deserves.

Wrong. He benefited from artificially low taxes while still receiving benefits from Social Security, so he will receive far more over his lifetime than somebody in their 40's or younger will receive. And once again, this codger repeats the incorrect assertion that you are entitled to exactly the same amount as that which you put in.

Social Security does not, and never has, worked that way.

2011-11-19 12:41:32 PM
I like Rick Santorum. He isn't my favorite but he is one of the only solid conservative voices. Unfortunately, not correcting these people is basically the equivalent of lying IMHO. I think he would earn more respect from the right (and left) if he were to step-up to the plate when this happens. Obama is a Christian and Santorum should defend him and other Christians.

Pointlessly reopening an old wound: I will still never trust Hillary Clinton with higher office, for introducing this meme to the world.

/ Yes, you remember.

// I remember. I was in Columbus, Ohio in a hotel room, having worked a hard, honest day for the Obama campaign, and I screamed "you evil biatch!" and almost trashed the TV.

President Obama doesn't really believe tea partiers are racist either but that has not caused him to rush in and quiet the Progressive racebaiters.

Santorum wouldn't want to alienate the following he has left. Most of the crazy has already migrated to Cain and Perry.

No. The real crazy is all over at these OWS protests.

I think they now have a "ranting, spewing anti-jew free zone" right next to the "rape-free" zones.

SO... lets all talk about the tea partiers and rick santorum!

That's been the standard line from Republicans for a while and like most things Republicans do nowadays it shows their total lack of courage. Either you think Obama isn't a Christian and don't have the balls to say so in public or you think he is a Christian and don't have the balls to tell your fringe supporters the truth.

Way to be another pandering coward, Santorum.

Because half of them voted for him...he actually said " Keep in mind that many of these people you are calling racist knew I was black when they voted for me." or something very similair

y'know, I don't really believe Santorum is gay...but I won't try and correct anyone who DOES think he's a homosexual with serious denial issues.
