In my youth I was a Godzilla fan, and was quite excited when this was broadcast on NBC in the late 70s. The broadcast even had interstitial materiel with John Belushi telling jokes in a Godzilla suit.

Sadly, even at my tender young age, I realized that Godzilla vs. Megalon was a really, really bad movie.

/By contrast, All Out Monster Attack is probably the best Godzilla film since the original
//Too bad MST3K never did Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster

The Flying Godzilla Drop-Kick will forever remain a classic moment in film history.

Same here, but I saw it at a drive-in in the mid '70s. It's still one of my favorites, though.

Can someone recommend me one of the best MST3K episodes ever? Trying to introduce the gf to it.

if you're a Mike guy, you can't go wrong with "Werewolf", which was called a "gift from God" by Kevin Murphy. Indecipherable accents, laughable special effects, non-existent story, and some of the strongest riffs ever to grace MST3K.

Other strong Mike-era episode you can try: "Space Mutiny", "The Final Sacrifice", "Hobgoblins", and "Pumaman".

As for the Joel-era, I'm not too knowledgeable with those episodes, but "Pod People" is one of the best I've seen so far.

This, but for other great Joel-era episodes, I would suggest Hercules Against the Moon Men, Hercules Unchained, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, and Cave Dwellers.

"MANOS" is of course a classic, but I'd think it would be a little too odd for a first time viewer. "Pod People" is good, as well as "Warrior Of The Lost World", "The Day The Earth Froze", "Cave Dwellers", "Earth Vs The Spider", "Master Ninja" (either), and of course "Santa Clause Conquerors The Martians" are all classic Joel eps.

\then again I think they're all good

I started my (now fiancee) off with Werewolf; she laughed her ass off the whole way through. Ditto with Soultaker and Parts: The Clonus Horror. Of course, those are all Mike episodes. She's a Mike gal, but she did enjoy Mitchell and, surprisingly, Manos.

I'd go with "Space Mutiny" or "Santa Claus".

I may be a bit late to the party here but you can't go too far wrong by starting someone off with Space Mutiny or Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.

Love the Final War version of Gigan. Wish they did more with him.

My Favorite episode was "The Final Sacrifice"

The movie starts out showing a small town and you hear someone trying to start a vehicle. Crow says "That towns starter is shot."

On those rare occasions when I'm probed re: what newcomers to MST3K should first view, I recommend the short "A Date With Your Family" (new window).

If the probie doesn't take to this, there's absolutely no hope for them to ever warm to the creators' output and thus they might as well not even waste their time with a full length show.

There are utterly random times when the line "Father feigns eating, draws Junior out, then disowns him!" enters my head and, provided I'm not in a place where the doing of so is acceptable, I have to clandestinely physically hurt myself to keep from busting in a full boisterous guffaw.
