I don't know what's better, my thrill over the dbag burglars being caught....or the woman's concern that her cats are stressed out.

Second time I've seen this and I still can't see how she missed that there were two thieves at first. She must have been focused on watching her animals. Kind of like that gorilla basketball video.

It's weird after having some training now that the most interesting part of the video was watching the officers enter and checking their gun/hand positions. I'm no authority but it looks like they did pretty well. The last guy didn't drop his gun far enough when he went from left to right though.

Someone needs to watch "To Catch a Thief".

The Burglars need to watch it.
They were in the house for at least 4 minutes and hadn't started collecting anything yet. The dude on that show would of had 75% of the valuables already out the house.

The owner needs to watch it.
A doggie door big enough to for grown men to crawl through and you've already been robbed by this method once? Woman, you need to put one of those security panels over it while you are out the house. Your dogs can stay outside or hold it while you are gone. You also need to calm the fark down when you are miles away, in no danger, and a load of cops show up within minutes to deal with the problem.

They make doggie doors with sensors that lock and unlock. Toss them on the dog's collars and they only unlock for the dog.

It can be gamed, of course - call the dog to the door and it unlocks - but its better.

Any video that starts with, "There is a black man in my house" is going to be good." You just knew with that intro that the dispatch operator was going to have a tough job.

Word Origin & History

burgle
1872, verbal back formation from burglar (q.v.). Pp. burgled is attested from 1880.

Ah, so you have a problem with American English then. Sorry, can't help you there. We have our own version of English now, and rightly so since we are our own country and all.

In that case, how far back to you want to go, this far?

1225-75; Middle English from Anglo-French "burgler"

or how about

Old French *borgl ( er ) to plunder, pillage

Not far enough? What about

Gallo-Romance "*būriculāre"

from

Old Low Franconian "*būrj" ( an ) to dart at, pounce upon + Vulgar Latin *-icāre?

My god, you're right! It's not just stupid, but many generations of stupid - spanning whole centuries!

I would have predicted that it would have gone like this:

911 Operator: Are you in the house? Is any member of your family in the house, ma'am?
Lady: No. I'm calling from work. I have a live video feed that-
911 Operator: Ma'am, this is 911. You are not supposed to call 911 for non-emergency reasons
Lady: But my cat is freaking out. There is a robber in my house!
911 Operator: Ma'am, that is not an emergency. Please hang up and call the non-emergency number. A police officer will come take your report sometime in the next two weeks.

Unless donuts, pensions or (white peoples') lives are threatened, most cops won't do squat.

A bigger dog wouldn't necessarily solve the problem. I've got a Great Dane who would probably just pad along beside them until she got petted. However, I can always hope that a big, 160-lb dog would make any would-be robber reconsider a new target house.

FerneJohn: "Would HAVE." Sorry.

I gave up a long time ago on grammar.

I really did try to learn the billion and one rules for the English language.

But in the end, the only people who care are assholes and the people with sticks up them. So I stopped worrying about it.
Language is about expressing your thoughts to someone else. If what I write does the job, then that's all I worry about. Certain rules are needed for that to make it easier, but most of them are just English professors with nothing to do wanking off to the thought of a standard English when the damned language is a bastard, thrown together mess.

Yeah, I could get behind that statistic.
