The man needs a break. Between DW and Sherlock he's been going non-stop for the last 4 years or so.

Jesus H Christ - when did Doctor Who jump the shark?

That Doctor seems really creepy to have around children. Almost like he enjoys it too much. Maybe he has a youthful spirit or something, like Micheal Jackson.

Umm...maybe because he is not getting paid by the hour (episode), but is collecting an annual salary?
Or maybe because he secretly hates the show and its fanbase and is deliberately trying to spoil the show for everyone.
Or maybe he figures it is just a freaking tv show and people will get over it.

It didn't :) I really enjoy Matt Smith's doctor - it reminds me of the good parts of Tennant mixed with Tom Baker. This season was pretty darn good, and I eagerly (and impatiently) await new episodes.

/My street cred is better than your street cred: I knit my fingers off making myself a Fourth Doctor scarf ;)

Yeah, but there were some pretty good ones with Pertwee. "The Green Death" was good, but drawn out. They could've done it in 4 episodes.

Balchinian: Or maybe he figures it is just a freaking tv show and people will get over it.

So, you're saying Moffat is Jeff?

Toriko: was that Bill Bailey?

Sure was.

I dunno. I get what they were trying to do. I read that book in 3rd grade. But I don't think they could top the Doctor's adventures with Kasran flying around in a carriage/sleigh pulled by a flying shark. That was an awesome Christmas special. But I'll watch this one too.

Ugh. i watched that one when I was seven. It gave me a lifelong terror of maggots. Totally irrational, I know. Maggots are harmless but I'm terrified of them. All because of Doctor Who.

Love me some Pertwee though.

Fun fact, some of the maggots in the special effects scenes were condone filled with waterand air.

1) Not impossible, but unlikely.
2) Yes, and he faked us out with decades-old usenet posts posing as a Who fan.
3) Kill him. Burn him at the stake.

Seriously, is it THAT FREAKING HARD to turn out 13 hours a year of a fairly formulaic show?

So, is this the 900 year old Doctor or the 1100 year old? Aren't we missing 200 years of fun if 7th series starts where 6th series ended?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the weird scheduling has a lot to do with UK austerity measures affecting the BBC. Even though ratings have been solid and the show is more popular than ever across the pond in the US, Moffatt has had to cope with a much lower budget than the RTD had. I bet he's being creative with the scheduling to spread out the production costs over several fiscal years.

To be fair, we never did see the Galaxy named Allison or see the deflowering of Good Queen Bess.

They addressed this on a Confidential. There's a 200 year gap (relative to the Doctor's timeline) between God Complex and Closing Time

I didn't know that. Now I have a weird desire to go fill some condoms with water and air and play with them while being scared of them.

Unsung_Hero:

No, it isn't, which is why I made with the snide comments. But honestly, my own opinion is that for him it actually is that difficult. I don't buy any of the budget arguments, because old Who had virtually no budget whatsoever and yet turned out shows which were every bit as entertaining, creative, and imaginative as any new Who episode has been. And what is more, they relied on the viewers using their imagination more actively as well, which is exactly why old Who got such enormous buy-in. Bottom line is that the show can be done both well, and affordably. I just don't think Moffatt has ready access to the kind of imagination necessary to accomplish it.

I submit the episode Blink as evidence you might be wrong.

A bunch of location shooting with a few statues they moved around and all of the monster action took place off-camera. Probably cheapest episode all season, and best of Tennant's entire run.

Go back and re-read the series 6 threads or Google it. It's the right, 1100 year old doctor. We basically watched everything sideways and backwards.

The best Doctor is.... whoever is playing the role at a given time.

The Doctor is timeless and amazing, that is the end of the argument.

Or "Doctor, who?"
It's not the question that this the danger, it is the answer. We "know" the question, and the place the question is asked and that it will destroy the universe when answered. Now think of an answer The Doctor could give that would cause that. The Moff will swerve on it of course, but I will stand by my hope fear idea that he will confront being fictional.

fade in:
Doctor: Oh hello Christopher Eccleston.
AmyCompanion: Doctor, who?
Doctor: Fuuuuuuuuuuu

I miss having different theme music for the different series of Doctor Who. Granted, the theme for this Doctor is very catchy, I like that Murray Gold always seemed to come up with an original and catchy score each season.

I thought that was pretty clever. Looking back, "Doctor Who?" as the question seems so obvious, but that's why it's great. And I assume the answer won't be a literal one. It will boil down to choices the Doctor makes when confronted by an extreme situation. He obviously started calling himself the Doctor because he viewed himself as a healer, but many cultures have now come to understand the word "doctor" as a synonym for warrior or destroyer. I assume the next series will focus on sorting that out.

You are taking a very Anglo/Terran view of the name. Doctor means healer because he keeps saving Earth, not because he is a healer/savior. You got the point but forgot about the needle. His name (baring the "true name" mcguffin) is Doctor, just as your name is CowboyNinjaD. If CowboyNinjaD kept showing up and saving the world and awesome folk on a tiny island in the North Atlantic over the course of thousands of years I would be going to my CowboyNinjaD Geoff Frock to get a flu shot tomorrow, or for short my CND G. Frock. See?

Well... the 6th Doctor claimed to be about 900 years old... and was around 950 for the 7th, so maybe 9, 10 and 11 were lying about their ages, and they're all around 1100 years old...

Luthien's Tempest: It didn't :) I really enjoy Matt Smith's doctor

No, I think that's all in your imagination. What you're really enjoying about Matt Smith's doctor is Amy and Rory. They are what make the current doctor watchable. Now granted, some of the stories, this season, have been bad, but Smith isn't helping, any.

it reminds me of the good parts of Tennant mixed with Tom Baker.

I never got the love for Tom Baker, either. I suppose he's the best of the old doctors, but that's not saying much. Between the bad acting, the bad stories, and the bad sets/props, I couldn't watch much Dr. Who when I was younger.

Personally, I think Tennant is, by far, the best Doctor. When Eccleston left, I didn't miss him for long. (Not that he's bad: Tennant is just that good.) I still miss Tennant.

Another thing I wish they'd do is more travelling. I don't remember the old Doctors being on Earth, very often. The three latest Doctors practically live there. Sorry, but early 21st century London is not the center of the universe.
