alrighty everyone. How likely is it that he is lying?

Uchiha_Cycliste: alrighty everyone. How likely is it that he is lying?

He's like 100 and is/was a smoker. I think the odds are pretty good in cancer's favor.

/Also explains why he wanted to put the deed to his house in his wife's name back before the scandal broke.

Thanks Joe Paterno's son, now I feel for the man!

2011-11-18 05:10:50 PM
He may have to retire from coaching now.

Yup. Though the whole "survivable" part probably doesn't take into account the fact that he's farking 84 now.

If I were not an atheist, I would high five jesus and his dad.

2011-11-18 05:14:06 PM
I guess he gets to find out what it feels like having something unwanted inside of him.

Really? Because this is after choosing not to stop decades worth of child rape. A little late for that.

"Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno has a treatable form of lung cancer, according to his son."

Well that sure leaves his options open depending on how things turn out with the whole conspiracy to fark boys case.

Here's hoping Joe Pa survives cancer for many years to come. I want him to stick around and see everything he worked so hard for and built torn down and crumble around him. I want him to see his name dragged through the mud, his statue defaced or destroyed and his football program shamed. I want him to sit in the courtroom in civil trials hearing the torment the rape victims and their families went through, knowing he was a facilitator in all of this.

I Paterno to see his legacy as a great football coach completely forgotten and overshadowed by his tolerance, acceptance and continued support of kids being raped on his watch.

Seriously, fark that guy.

On the one hand all of that, on the other the convenient timing. I'm torn.

Well since the Pope is humanity's ambassador to the father and son, let's ask them what they think of kiddy rape. Then we will have god's official stance.

Why? Wouldn't she get the house, most likely, in his will?

If it's hers I imagine it's protected against the imminent civil lawsuit.

I believe that was precisely downstairs' point.

Thank God he reported not feeling well to the proper authorities early, and stopped something terrible from happening.

He assumed the athletic director had taken care of it after that.

Hoban Washburne: I believe that was precisely downstairs' point.

I read it that she would get the house out of his will.

I'm saying that there's absolutely zero doubt a civil lawsuit will occur and he's going to be sued into oblivion.

If the house is in his name and is needed to cover the damages, Mrs. P is homeless.

2011-11-18 05:36:06 PM
Hope he beats it. I don't want his death to negatively affect the peso cases.

I wonder if this might be why he wasn't indicted.

Not always. Some courts can undo transfers of property that appear to have been done solely to hide assets. Bankruptcy courts can do this. I think it can be done in civil cases. I'd have to ask my brother-in-law, who is a CPA, if there are any tax advantages to this, but that would seem to really lower her basis if/when she sells after he has passed away, which would in turn increase her tax liability on the sale. I think. I don't know nuthin' about no tax law.

Doubt that. Then everyone could easily get away with anything and not have to pay up.

"Yeah, I know I owe you $1 million.... but I sold all my stuff to my wife for a dollar. Sucks to be you!"

Okay, Angry Drunk Bureaucrat, says that it explains why he put the house in his wife's name months before the scandal broke. Basically saying that "See, it wasn't about the boy farking. He had no clue! He just had lung cancer." downstairs says, wait, if it was just the lung cancer that caused him to put the house in his wife's name, that doesn't make sense. Assuming no scandal, she would get the house in the will.

You come in and say, "Well, downstairs, my dear boy, I do believe that he transferred the house to avoid civil penalties."

That's how I saw everything unfold. I could be way off on this.

The next day they told someone at the hospital that he had a minor respiratory issue.

I read that the house was already owned jointly between Paterno and his wife. Is that not correct? If so, than she wouldn't need protection in case Joe died of cancer, she already owned the asset and is the next of kin. The only reason would be a dodge to protect it from civil liability.

I doubt that, but let's be real, there's almost no case against Paterno and he has an insignificant amount of money compared to the billions at PSU, which has far more culpability.

2011-11-18 05:58:47 PM
I don't get why you guys are so upset about Jerry Sandusky. He has been nothing but a paragon in his community. Sure he made a tiny mistake, but shouldn't all of the good things that he has done in the past overshadow the tiny little blemish on his record. Come-on people give the man a break.

I sure hope the doctors were made aware of the situation early allowing them to deal with the health problems before it caused additional problems.

It's always good to deal with things right away!

Everyone seems to have read the article on his house transfer wrong. It was transferred to a trust and his wife is the trustee. There is a tax reason for this. Nothing to do with civil liability.

I could not agree more with the sarcasm here. The thing everyone needs to remember is don't rape children FIRST. THEN be a good coach/mentor/leader/whatever if you want style points. It starts with not raping (or being complicit in the rape of) children.

I'll agree with you on the reality of it, yes. Penn State will be sued into oblivion well before the estate of Joe Paterno.

Heck, with all the disgrace and pressure Joe is under- and will be under- I don't really think he'll be around to be sued.

Ok, but lets say he's sued into oblivion. How do they go after the house?

(Again, I did agree that he probably won't be sued... so this is a hypothetical question.)
