(Some Guy) Fail FedEx avoids original commercial like fast talking man, goes for obvious, cliched, hackneyed, stiff, corporate approved FedEx boxes rube goldberging a message from goose to cute puppy, with a little can't go wrong Johnny Cash. Depressing   (mashable.com) divider line 29

They only other cliche that they missed was an overhead view to show that the fallen box dominoes created a FedEx logo.

This ad stands out for the carefully engineered domino creations

I hope they realize it's CGI.

That, to me, is the worst part. At least the Honda Cog was not CGI.

Since the boxes can't be reused terribly well, they're all in a landfill now. Along with the ones they didn't use for the shoot.

Anyone know who was singing and what the song was?

No on both. I've tried googling snatches of lyrics from the song, to no avail.

BroVinny: That wasn't Johnny Cash.

You're right. I think it was a "Johnny Cash impressionist/stylist" and the song, once I listen to the lyrics, is insipid, cliche'd, and supposed to be representative of FedEx's brand proposition.

Can someone confirm it's CGI, and just not badly shot at a strange framerate?

I can't find an authoritative source either way. A lot of cameras are spread out in that commercial, so if it is CGI, they're trying pretty hard to imply that it isn't.

i can't call it cgi either.. any confirmation? pretty damn good bouncing if it is cgi

If they were trying to go viral with this ad, it wouldn't work as well if it were CGI because they couldn't then have a 'behind the scenes' video which would generate more buzz about the ad and get more people watching it. I'm not saying it isn't CGI, I'm just saying the ad execs should know that real will make the ad get mote hits, and fake will create a sense that the company will take shortcuts with their product. Also, I watch too much "Gruen Transfer" so I am ashamed to know about what philosophies go into creating ads.

If you want to criticize a video, at least come up with an intelligible headline.

Truth in advertising?
Why yes, yes we will drop your package in every state it passes through.

It's a cute video with a catchy tune but what's the intent? Am I supposed to feel good about the shipping rates because my box is going on a cheerful trip? Like it's riding the rails hobo-style and seeing america's heartland in some Woody Gurthrie fantasy?

I assumed Stompin' Tom since they are trying to play up Canadianess..

I'm assuming that the headline is a joke that went over my head. No headline is that clunky unless it's on purpose.

An AdWeek article says this an original track called "Coming Home" by Apollo Studios.

All I saw was some convoluted mess with useless loops and obstacles that made it take longer to get from one place to another.

I thought it was cute.

More importantly, mother and grandmother types are going to think it's cute. And they're the ones that do the bulk of the holiday shipping.

Not Johnny Cash and not a Johnny Cash song. Lame.

Yep, what a completely idiotic marketing driven commercial. All that commercial says is my package is going to be continually knocked around while being rerouted numerous times.

Hell FedEx, why not use your airplanes crashing into each other instead of boxes for the commercial???

Didn't FedEx already do the 'we cover just about everything' video for the 2005 Superbowl (new window)?

Then again, the music and this domino scene was better than every OK Go video ever made (except for their first treadmill one, that was rather clever).
