I was hoping some right wing publication would go with the hilariously false idea that the pipeline would create a significant number of US jobs and new energy production. I'm glad the Examiner didn't disappoint.

Not to mention no number of jobs are worth having flammable water.

It's now legal to frack in New Mexico, as long as you disclose it.

This has nothing to do with the Canadian pipeline for oil sands. This is about fracking. But I bet that it will be approved in the spring time so the jobs numbers will look improved just in time for the election. It is completely political.

It really doesn't matter how many jobs the pipeline will generate. They are the wrong kind of jobs and Obama will be having none of that.

"The increasing use of hydraulic fracturing has raised a number of concerns about the potential impacts on water quality and availability, particularly with respect to the chemical composition of fracturing fluids and the methods used."

Seventy percent of Ohioans oppose fracking on public lands. And for good reason, as one home in Cleveland, Ohio actually exploded after gas seeped into its water well.

i was disappointed to learn that i'm not allowed to take the lucrative job of "toxic waste in your drinking water dumper" because apparently that's been regulated out. then i applied for a job of "ass rape anyone i want" but just as i was about to get hired, the company went under because apparently ass rape, while lucrative, is bad for everyone.

god damned fartbama

GAT_00: Not to mention no number of jobs are worth having flammable water.

Don't you see? This is long term job creation! First they frack for gas (job creation). Then the EPA needs to hire more people to monitor the frackers (job creation). Then somebody needs to remediate the pollution created (job creation). Then somebody has to foreclosure on all the farms that can't be used anymore because of the pollution (job creation). Then somebody has to come around 50 years later after the dormant wells start leaking or previously undisclosed toxic materials are found and remediate again (job creation). Then somebody has to come up with all new treatments for the new types of cancers that are appearing in the populations around the old wells (job creation).

It's not just a win; it's a win-win-win-win-win-win!

I was just digging around on propublica.org in their fracking section and found this from PBS. I hadn't know that fracking was that destructive.

Interesting piece on land rights, regulation and of course Halliburton

I am not sure what is more toxic - flammable gas in our water or shiat flowing out your mouth.

Republicans: "We should strip mine Yellowstone National Park"
Obama: "No"
Gary: "Obama is obstructionist!"

Serious, DIAF.

Not only do we need to dismantle the EPA, but we clearly also need to eliminate the Federal court system.

Yes, because fraking hasn't caused any problems at all, and environmental concerns are completely out of line. It is so obvious.

Fracking is probably one of the things that is not worth jobs it creates or the energy it produces. It's ruined the ground water in areas near where I grew up. People have even been told not shower or do laundry unless the windows are open.

However much we need jobs and energy, we need water a hell of a lot more.

We should legalize child pornography because it will create thousands of new jobs and fulfill a demand that has gone unsatisfied for years. If you oppose this idea, you are clearly a socialist who hates America and its workers.

And those 1,110 Ohio jobs exist thanks to the bailout. Thanks to your President.

But wait, there's more.

-The U.S. solar industry now employs over 100,000 people (more than the coal industry).

-The U.S. solar industry is the fastest-growing industry in the country (creating jobs 10 times faster than the rest of the U.S. economy).

-There are over 5,000 solar companies across the U.S., some in every state.

-Solar PV installations have grown 69% over the last year (40 times faster than the U.S. economy as a whole).

-The U.S. solar energy industry is a net exporter, by $2 billion (and is even a net exporter to China).

We've been investing in renewable clean energy and it's been paying off. Thanks to your President.

I would have gone with legalizing slashing politicians tires as a boon for the towing industry as well as the tire manufacturers. We would need more research to see if there would be an effect on pocket knife technology.

Because when I think Halliburton, I don't think "Cushy and Lucrative relationship with the federal government," I think "Free Market Bootstraps."

Seriously... is there honestly a more damaging counterpoint than that? You can talk until you're blue in the face about the technical specs and the jobs and the energy and all the other guy has to do is say "If we allow this, YOUR FAUCET WILL BURST INTO FLAMES!" and the ballgame's over. The left usually has a problem with visceral talking points. This one's simple.

This is entirely how the GDP is figured. Cancer contributes to the GDP over and over from a single case, but the negatives are never figured into the equation. This is why GDP is such a shiatty measurement of economic health and is one reason why we are where we are today
