Or that she didn't go to another doctor, she'd have no idea who the father was.

While I celebrate this mother and her children, she is really taking a chance at giving birth at such an old age. Risking not only her own physical health, but also risking the possible mental retardation of her children.

so does milk production go up with the amount of kids?

Yeah, so's yours. Seriously, though. Is there anyone here whose mom isn't old? I'd assume the average mom age around here is about 60.

There once was a lady named Pat,
who had triplets named Nat, Pat and Tat.
It was fun in the breading,
but hell in the feeding
when she found there was no tit for Tat.

34?? are you sure?

I always told my husband that if we had twins I was never going back to work, and if we had triplets he was to put me down right there at the hospital. Besides, I'm not the chick from Total Recall, how am I supposed to feed them? ;)

She's 34!!! That's not even "Advanced Maternal Age" by medical standards. Asshole.

That said, I promise you that if she'd already had 3 ultrasounds by 12 weeks, she probably had about 15 more in the remaining 20 something weeks left of her pregnancy. And that's only that low if nothign went wrong.

I had twins and had approximately 10 ultrasounds, though I didn't have my first until 20 weeks.

34 isn't that old, the risks for major birth defects are under 1:250 in that age range, a level of risk most people wanting to start a family are willing to take. Considering how long it takes these days to be financially secure, not to mention emotionally settled and finding the right partner to have a child with, and add a few years of trying to concieve, and 34 is pretty normal.

/38 and pregnant now.
//baby's healthy, odds are only 1:2,000 of Downs per my Dr., and only one in there.
///would've done it sooner but during my "prime" childbearing years I kept miscarrying. Now I'm "old" and it's the most normal pregnancy ever. Go figure.

Hope hubby knows how to paint a hall.

Left side, right side, ceiling* then the floor.

*If you paint the ceiling before the floor she could get a urinary tract infection.

Jixa: if we had triplets he was to put me down right there at the hospital

There was a link a week or two ago about a woman who died and willed her husband and children to her younger sister. Sister accepted the inheritance.

Our first ultrasound only showed one baby. Its natural to stop looking at that point. Imagine you have the sonic wand thingy, and you're digging for the heartbeat. Then you find it, and you think "Oh, there it is." Its just not common enough for people to continue searching for that second heartbeat(or third).

TFA said the babies were deliered by C-Section, not surprising for triplets.

adambuck: so does milk production go up with the amount of kids?

According to the breastfeeding class my wife took, the supply will always strive to meet the last demand. If the breasts are completely drained each feeding, more milk will be provided at the next feeding than the last feeding. However there are factors such as the mother's metabolism, mother's water intake, and time of day that effect the supply. And you have to allow a certain amount of time between feedings to let the breasts refill. That's the hard part with multiple births.

We'd better hope not. Not only is the baby scanner wonky, the kids could get a Time Head.

Wait, a moment! This isn't the MRI. It's the photocopier. Silly bunt I am, I've got them mixed up again! I told them they shouldn't put the medical equipment and the office equipment in the same room. It only leads to accidents like that incident with the bacteria cultures.

On the bright side, it's not nearly as bad as my last place. Poor Natalie Suleman! She only expected twins but after three scans on the "MRI" she had octuplets.

34 is not "old age"

2011-11-18 07:06:21 PM
34 yo is not old.

Most all IVF centers take egg donors through 30, some even 32.

However, 37 is reproductive middle-age and 42 is outright geriatric from a narrow oocyte standpoint.

Almost 2½ years ago, my daughter gave birth to twins. At her first ultrasound, only one showed , two or three weeks later, the next ultrasound showed twins.

They are quite a handful and she is forever thankful she didn't have triplets.

They were 5 lbs. 10 oz. and 6 lbs. 9 oz. She gained 80 lbs and had pre-eclampsia. The last month was no fun at all, but she and her husband and her then ten year old daughter got two great kids.

Now if we can just get the twins potty trained...
