I know I hate it when I nearly hit the speeding cop car that is passing on the right with no lights or signals as he cuts through multiple lanes of traffic.

Almost as much as I hate the cop effect where one cop car turns a 55mph road into a 30mph traffic jam as people panic brake.

I don't think Toronto has enough squares to pen all of the violators until its their turn to be beaten. But I do agree with you 100%. Zip over 4 lanes to get off the express onto the collectors. Sometimes they aren't even in the lane, and cut across the median if they figured it out 100' too late.

I've always been of the school of hitting the next exit and doubling back. But I guess that's just me.

Don't you hate it when you read a headline and it makes your head hurt?

2011-11-18 10:57:58 AM
going on the headline, I hate when people swerve three lanes over so they don't "miss" the exit they want to take. Trust you me, you do get a chance for a "do-over" because you can always take the next exit and turn around and try again. The exit you wanted to take doesn't dissapear Langolier style, it's still going to be there.

Yes. Although it's not clear from TFA whether the driver cut across multiple lanes or not (despite the headline) doing that is definitely a common Boston driver move. But it's is better than the pull-into-the-breakdown-lane-and-back-up trick that you sometimes see. There are some days that I am convinced that most Boston driver learned to drive in Greece.

Driver probably did not "miss the exit lane." Driver probably just felt, in their self absorbed selfish way, should not have to be delayed by 15 seconds in their life being stuck behind a slow moving vehicle and decided to pass at the last possible instance and cut over. Probably so they could make it to the pizza parlor just in time as they were also calling on their cell phone ordering said pizza.

I've always assumed these people had zero imagination. Same with the db's who get in the wrong lane at a light and just sit there with their blinker on waiting for someone to let them in, while everyone behind them misses the light. No clue that they could go up a bit and turn around, they would rather inconvenience and/or injure other motorists with their daftness.

I used to think Boston drivers were the worst until I had the misfortune to drive in Montreal... Holy shiat.

My personal favorite is the "Hail Mary Merge" when someone merging onto the Pike or other busy route just turns on their blinker and guns it.

What do you expect when you got a dumb ass woman driver and a cop too busy eating doughnuts to actually pay attention. Obama had a chance to sign legislation that would have required every car to have a system that detects an impending collision and auto-corrects but he was too busy forcing the poor health insurance companies to cover illegal aliens to be bothered.

/Oh, if the woman could buy pot from the corner store, she would not have been driving across hells half-acre looking for a dealer.

You've never driven in the bay area. Exits there wink in and out of existence at the whim of a malevolent freeway god.

My personal fave is the people who don't want to wait in line at a backed-up freeway entrance ramp, so they get in another lane, move up a bit, and then try to nudge back in further up the line. I'm generally a "let assholes be assholes" type, but I make damn sure I'm right up the ass of the car in front of me when I see someone pulling that crap.

Well if the cop wasn't too busy calling in an order for donuts on his cell phone, he probably would of seen the asian woman cut across three lanes to catch her exit. She also wouldn't even of been on the road if she could of used her insurance card to pick up the marijuana she needed to help with her agonizing IBS. But since it's still an illegal substance, she had major exacerbation and had to quickly run out to her dealer to pick up her medication. If only Obama actually followed through with his hope and change, we wouldn't be in this situation.

As someone who got side-swiped on the NJ Turnpike by an idiot trying to make the exit for the Newark Airport (and there are 3 of them! He could have just waited until the next exit!), I'm all for this. As long as we also add to the list assholes who BACK UP on the shoulder if they overshoot the exit.

Having seen a car do this across 4 lanes of traffic to make the I-95 North exit off of the Maryland Beltway (east-bound) I would help build the platform for a public hanging.

Loaf's Tray

I was a passenger when the driver tried the "stop on the highway next to the line of stopped cars and wait for a gap to appear" maneuver. A cop came and told the driver to move along. We wanted a left exit so hanging out in a lane was worse than usual. (I-84 westbound exit 3 in Danbury, CT. We were headed for a business and didn't know the Fair was in session until passing the tail of the traffic jam. Obviously, this was a long time ago. The fair closed in 1981.)

Wow, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has noticed how AWFUL Toronto drivers are. It's not unusual up there to see fifty cars in the left lane, stretching for two kilometers, but there's one bus or truck way up there in the right lane that they're all angling to pass...eventually. Move over? No way, I'm passing, eh?

When I'm up there, I get rid of all courtesy and good road etiquette--I used to try to be good, but Toronto drivers don't notice or care, and they ignore the rules too. Now I don't let anyone in, sometimes I go fast, sometimes I go slow, sometimes I move out of the left lane when I go slow, sometimes I don't. I pass on the right. I don't yield to the guy with the blinker on trying to make his exit at the last minute, I remain willing to let him hit me (which is shocking to every single Toronto driver, and they violently swerve away angry at ME for not getting out of their way). I don't let you merge if there have been signs for the last two kilometers warning you that you're in the lane that's ending. Enough of you guys are awful drivers that I feel no pity for those of you who aren't. You're all fair game now.

Sorry Canada, your drivers suck ass.
